The Gravity Inside Us: Poetry and Prose is from a Australian poet this is a of writings about traveling, hope, relationships, healing and more. This is the first book from Frayne that I've read and I really enjoyed reading it. There was so many lines and poems that I bookmarked because they were so powerful and I found them meaningful; wanted to be able to go back and read them again.
My favorite poems were ones based around the sea, “saltwater” and “a home for an ocean.” Are just a few poems that I really stand out to me.
Frayne’s writing is amazing. Very talented. It's very lyrical; that shows a roller-coast of feelings. I think this is great for all kinds of poetry readers.

''As long as our hearts are paper and our hands are ink, there will be poetry''

I hadn't read any poems from Chloë before, and I came out very satisfied with this collection. It was a little long for my taste, but the way the author talked about heartbreak made up for it. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of the book.

I love this book. I do not usually read poems but I wanted to try something new and the beautiful cover was enough for me.
Chloë Frayne brings her heart for all of us to see it.

“There are poems against my skin; all the places you have been”.

This being the first book I read from her, but we can see she is talking about lose, love, heartbreaks and the difficulty of finding a place where she belongs. But it’s the gravity that connects all of us with all those things, with other people and their feeling.

A connection of a past relationship and connection to nature - more of water imagery. Really great poems - a combinations of short and long poems.

"Part of the reason love is so complicated is that even when it's good, especially when it's good, it still destroys you."

I really enjoyed this book! the poetry was so beautifully written and I marked so many quotes that I loved.

I really enjoyed this collection of poems. Beautifully written and very wistful.

Id have liked a bit more of the hopeful poems then the heartbroken despair but would recommend.

Thank you for the arc.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

The Gravity Inside Us is a book of poetry and prose about love, heartbreak and loss.
I really enjoyed the beginning and the end of this book but the middle dragged and got repetitive for me as in the poems all seemed to be about the same person and the same thing over and over again.
Apart from that I really enjoyed this book and would recommend for anyone who has or is experiencing a break up.

I love any poetry so maybe I am not the best person to be telling you that this book is worth the investment. The thing is.... I only review what I believe 😀 and I have enjoyed every part of the book.

The first section remains my favorite. Most of poems captured my imagination and left me thinking, which is what all good poetry should do.

The middle selections of poems I would recommend taking your time reading. I read them one after another one morning over breakfast and then found that I spent the rest of the day a little sad-ish. It could have just been the day but the poems got me thinking of people and events from my past, whereas the first selection had left me pondering life.

The last third of the book perfectly wove every ounce of the book together and I was left pleased to have been given a copy of The Gravity Inside Us.

I think I will always enjoy poetry and I am thankful to my year 13 English teacher for introducing me to genre and the treasure that every word holds. I was given gift by that teacher (unfortunately I don't remember her name, I can still see her but her name is gone). She showed me how to take piece of literature and read between the lines. Before being introduced to poetry I hated reading. That particular teacher gave me one genre of literature that I could love and treasure for the rest of my life.

Anyway..... before I go any further down my schooling years, I will give credit to Chloe Frayne for the words, metaphors and thoughts that she has connected together into beautiful pieces of poetry for the world to enjoy.

I found this poetry collection to be quite beautiful! Most of the poetry focused on love (sapphic one, YAS) and the inability to forget about a past love after it's over! Therefore they were quite sad and some lyrics were pretty wow! However, they got a bit repetitive and too similar at times!

Chloë Frayne is a well-known poet on Instagram with 186K followers and attractive typewritten posts usually accompanied by dry or fresh flowers.

‘The Gravity Inside Us’, Frayne’s first collection published by Andrews McMeel Publishing, is composed of three sections: ‘beckoning’ (hope. wanderlust. the pull); ‘saltwater words’ (distance. travel. missing you), and ‘a home for an ocean’ (fate. finding you. falling into place).

The main themes of the collection are love, loss, long-distance relationships, travel (particularly crossing oceans), and home (whether a person or place).

Frayne writes poems from the heart which are brave, honest, and searingly confessional. She allows herself to be vulnerable on the page in a way that few writers do.

Her poetry is without classical form, while being concise, relatable, and accessible to a broad global audience through circulation in an increasingly digitalized world.

“I have always been the girl
with a plane ticket.
I have never known how to put my bags down
and not pick them back up.
I woke up one day with an understanding
that my heart was on either side of an ocean
and I began to live accordingly.
I sacrificed more than I can ever say;
put every cent I could into getting across the water;
grieved the things I would miss on either side.
This is to say, I have dedicated my life to love.”

Frayne divides her life between being at home with her family in a small town in South Australia and traveling around the world, meeting people she has connected with through her career.

She is currently working on two new poetry collections and can usually be found writing at home, by the sea, down antique store aisles, or carrying her typewriter through airports.

A huge thank you to @NetGalley and @AndrewsMcMeel for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book has something in it for everyone—every poem or piece of encouragement may not be what you need, and so could seem trite or cliché. But the pieces that do resonate with you will do strongly, and you'll be glad you read it for that.

There were so many soft and beautiful love poems that made my heart melt. Some of them reminded me of Tyler Knott Gregson, who was the first poet I ever fell in love with.

The poems flow together very well; at many points it seems like several pages are one long poem. The collection overall is also very aesthetically pleasing. Its style (black text centered on white pages, short lines) works well with the themes of the poems.

Some of my favorite lines were "I thought of all the things I wanted to say to you and I swallowed a sea," "there is always on my hands," and "how contagiously alive you are."

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is in love, who has been through heartbreak, who likes seeing their emotions played back for them in soft and beautiful ways.

There is a beauty in grief.

I'm not a huge poetry fan, but I really liked Chloë's collection. It explores an angle of grief that isn't normally seen. Gravity is inside everything, and is a natural feeling. I loved how Frayne explored the themes of gravity and love through her own feelings from her ex and tells a powerful story to her future and her future partner.

Frayne's verse was so beautifully written, and it shone a bright light on grief and gravity. There was at some points where I thought it was slow, but it was so powerful to read.

I really enjoyed most of these poems, but at times some really felt like a loose collection of ideas. I felt like so many of the poems were too short, and I would have liked to see the author explore their thoughts a little more, and add more depth to some of the poems. With that being said, these poems are well written and there is a nice collection of poem lengths and genres explored.

The Gravity Inside Us by Chloe Frayne is absolutely magical. I have written and read a lot of poetry, and found myself wanting to return to the poems in this book and re-read them just to savor it a bit more.

Chloe wrote of heartbreak, healing, and love, and she portrayed these universal & timeless ideals in a striking way. She writes: "This is a goodbye. I am trying to write it like it is beautiful, but it is sharp at the edges and I do not understand it at all." This picture of goodbye is one that paints a picture of normal emotion from an extraordinary angle.

I would highly recommend this collection of poetry to anyone who has been or is in love; with magic and care, The Gravity Inside Us will help you feel again.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

A poetry collection with focuses on love, hope, adventure, and longing, this anthology is lyrical and demands that the reader reflect on the words to allow the depth to truly set in. Frayne writes about her own experiences and seeks to connect with those on the other end of her words. Chapter titles include "a beckoning," "saltwater words," and "a home for an ocean."

I found myself connecting with many of Frayne's words, but this in particular stuck with me:

I have given love
every chance
I've ever had.

I won't spend
a moment
of my life
regretting that.

I find that this poem also portrays the driving forces behind the anthology. With that said, I absolutely recommend this, especially to those who enjoy lyrical poetry and seek connection through words and literature.

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this one, but the description I read had me thinking it would be the type of poetry that I usually enjoy, and I was right. Frayne uses beautiful language and imagery in each piece, some varying from a simple few lines to full prose. Most of the pieces were centered on love, both finding and losing love - with special emphasis on long distance relationships. I really enjoyed the flow and progression throughout the collection and how the themes shifted over time as the author discussed the wide range of emotions that are twisted into any relationship.

I absolutely Love this author, been following her work for years. I've read with equal pleasure her other books and was not disappointed by this one. Great collection, beautiful images and thoughts. Loved it!

I am not a fan of poetry that

is written
like this
all the time
all the enters

They take one sentence and make it into a page, and it really takes away from the poetry and art for me.

I noticed that a few poems had great metaphors, but they weren't as fleshed out, which sacrificed the depth and imagery that could have bumped them up from good to great. For example, "Build a home in the place you daydream of / Build it with the person you dreamed was standing beside you." This would have been so much better had the author described the home they dreamed of. Is it lush, full of plants, smelling of roses and glowing with amber to symbolize growth? is the person a delicious cherry pie, sweet and caring, always refilling and fulfilling the narrator? Those sorts of descriptions would have built the poem while conveying the same message, but with more depth and relatability. Another example, "It is a small rebellion, don't you think? / This bravery". What kind of a rebellion is a small rebellion? Is this a few farmers taking arms against a plague of fear? Is it a bee standing up to a wasp that blocks its way to it's honey-combed home? More fleshed out poetry creates more beauty and an impact on the readers, leaving a lasting impression and distinguishing it from other modern poems.

There is a poem regarding the idea of hope that is now one of my favorites. It includes the line, "It licks across my skin and speaks of rebirth and wildfire". I thought this poem in particular was stunning. The imagery was stellar and the message was conveyed really well by the poet's use of syntax and imagery. A very well done case of show and not tell.

Overall, I found this to be one of the better modern poetry collections I've read in a while. I think the poet has potential to create stunning poetry in the future, and I'll be sure to keep an eye out for them!
