I requested this book by Osheta Moore because of the eye-catching title, "Dear White Peacemakers." In her book, Moore describes a peacemaker as "a person who actively works toward holistic restoration of the interpersonal and systemic effects of white supremacy through non-violence and empathy." Moore is a black woman who is married to a white man (a pastor) and has two mixed race sons. Reading about her own personal experiences with racism and white aggression towards her was equal parts saddening and infuriating. This book offers many practical ways to deal with your own white privilege, as well as prayers (though they were more pentacostal than what I would use). Overall, this was a good book!

This book was absolutely incredible. The author invites her reader in a place of acknowledging who they are before God as Beloved, image bearer to come to her table with grit and grace, lending an ear to learn, acknowledge, and turn away and grow. This book tackles biblical perspectives on how to dismantle White Supremacy not according to how the world handles it nor nationalist evangelicalism. Satan has Christian white believers ensnared to believe that racism is done, but Osheta uses her experiences, Biblical Truth, and pointed questions to help White Christians get in the water with their fellow POC brothers and sisters, specifically Black, but this book can apply elsewhere. This book is short but it’s meant to be chewed on and digested. Slowly. One sentence at a time. Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net gallery for an advanced copy. I loved this book. Beautifully grounded in the gospel and felt like spending the day with a good friend in conversation. It has changed my thinking and how I do my work. It is generous and loving and gives a compartment for why the work of anti racism is better together.

This is the exact book our world needs right now. Osheta handles the subject of raise reconciliation and peacemaking with equal parts grace and grit. She doesn’t pay the head of White people telling us that it’s okay, and she also treats all people as Beloved, created in God’s image. This a book I will read over and over, as well as press into the hands of friends and family. Required reading for any ally who identifies as Christian.

If I recommend one book this year, “Dear White Peacemakers” will be it! Osheta Moore writes with precision wrapped in kindness and grace. She continually brings the reader back to the heart of God and reminds of us as identity in Him and our role as peacemakers. Osheta’s encouragement and humble calling out to pursue anti racism work as Beloved Peacemakers is incredibly gracious and a true gift. This book is for all White people who love Jesus. It’s even better for people who claim to “not see color” or “I’m not racist.” I encourage all White people to come under the teaching and heart of a Black leader like Osheta Moore. Her book will challenge, encourage, and push you to become more like Jesus in how you love, think, and act. You can tell with each chapter how much Osheta cares and desires for true peace between not just believers, but all people. I loved the breath prayers at the end of each chapter. “Inhale: Liberator. Exhale: Set the captives free.” I recommend this book for book clubs, community groups, and individuals. Let’s not continue to sweep the crucial work of anti racism under the rug as Christians. Take this opportunity to learn and grow through this book!
