I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Lord Satyr is the second in the Lords of the Masquerade series, however it can be read as a stand-alone. I did enjoy the first book and would also recommend reading that when you get the chance if you haven’t.

With the series focused on largely hedonistic men and the intriguing women who love them, I was pleased with the turn it took this time around. I did feel at times Jackson was just another jaded rake, and Gwen another bluestocking, but Jade Lee injected enough into their dynamic to make them interesting, even if the story was slightly less so than the first one.

There’s charm in this story that keeps it from being too boring or humdrum in the moment, even if we’ve seen some variant of this setup many times before, although I’m not sure if it stuck, even as I was finishing it off. I liked the characters well enough, but I wasn’t attached to either of them,

Ultimately, this is a charming read, albeit not one that will make a lasting impression in my personal opinion. I do think if you like historical rakes, bluestockings, and masquerades, you’ll enjoy this. And ultimately, as I’ve been continually stressing (even if only to myself most of the time) due to the endlessly bleak current events, a nice bit of brain candy isn’t a bad thing, and we could all use more of it every now and again.
