Unintended Target is the second novella in the MacArthur series by Katie Reus. After reading the first book I could not wait to read the other MacArthur sibling’s book and I was not disappointed at all. This book was just as good as the first one; swoon-worthy hero, sassy heroine, and intrigue that kept me reading until the end.
Patience was a Kindergarten teacher who was asked to help a family friend as a nanny for the summer break. She thought Brodie was grumpy and although she was attracted to him, they did not get along. Brodie was head of security and was suspicious of Patience due to all the threats to his boss. His assumption of Patience shattered her first impression of him. Can he redeem himself and keep everyone safe?
This was a short novella but fast-paced and easy to read. The characters were likable and had layers. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and see what the only remaining single MacArthur sibling is up to.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The saga continues with the story of the middle MacArthur brother who turns out to be the most intense of the siblings. I had no idea where this story was going to go, despite the sometimes overused nanny trope, but this one was fun in that it was the nanny and the head of security instead of the nanny and the single father that got together. Katie Resus has and amazing ability to make her characters come alive for her readers and brings us right into their lives. Patience is ready to kick of a restful summer before she has to go back to teaching until her mother guilts her into helping out a family friend in a bind and she finds herself serving as a nanny temporarily to his young ward until he gets the hang of things. But it puts her right into the sights of the sexy and dangerous Brodie, the head of security, and despite their first meeting not going well at all, Brodie is attracted ridiculously and Patience finds herself drawn as well. As they spend more and more time together, learning about each other, resisting the attraction becomes nearly impossible, but then strange things begin happening to and around Patience and Brodie has to ask himself is she is worth fighting for and protecting from all dangers so he can have her for himself. Brodie was definitely a sexy beast and I loved seeing him growling and grumbling as Patience drove him nuts, but his sweet moments and when he was being protective were just as great. He didn’t put his best foot forward to be sure, but he works hard to prove to Patience that he is a good man and worth taking a chance on because it is obvious that he is growing to really care for her. Patience is not in a place to have a relationship really, but once Brodie redeems himself and proves he is a caring and loving guy, she begins to question if they might be able to have a chance. She is terrified when danger begins to compound around her but she also trusts Brodie to keep her safe regardless. I loved the passion between Brodie and Patience as it slowly builds out of the missteps of their first meeting and as the heat continued to grow it only got better. I am looking forward to the next story in the trilogy for sure because Brodie’s sister Sienna sounds like a very intriguing character to get to know.

Unintended Target is the 2nd book in the MacArthur Family series by Katie Reus. I will say this one has a decidedly different storyline feel than Falling for Irish, but I still really enjoyed it.

Patience has some very definite plans for herself over summer break which included some serious beach and pool time with margaritas and definitely nothing to do with students, or teaching, or even really any responsibility at all. But her plans take a definite nosedive when her mother talks her into helping out an old friend that is in need. She agrees to a temporary nanny position for the summer or until he can find more permanent help. The last thing she needs after having to cancel her plans is a very pushy head of security, that has no right to look so darn hot while scowling at her and asking way too many personal questions. Just as Patience and the scowly security chief, Brodie, find common and firey ground, it comes clear that something is definitely wrong at her friend's home.

I do love a quick, low-risk, fun, and steamy read. This was just what the doctor ordered. The push-pull between the characters was on point. (Just as I've come to expect from our illustrious author.) I loved the little mystery aspect and the fast pace.

I am seriously loving this series and can't wait for the last in the series!!

Elementary school teacher Patience’s plans to spend her summer at the beach drinking margaritas is put on hold to help a family friend out by being his temporary nanny. It would be a simple job except that his head of security, Brodie MacArthur, is the sexy guy who asked for her number while she was out with her girls the other night. She didn’t give it to him, but she was oh so tempted. Unfortunately, that sexy, friendly intriguing man with whom she shared a sizzling instant attraction, is now nowhere to be found. Not that he’s any less appealing to her, but he’s closed off, guarded, antagonistic, and strangely suspicious of her.

Brodie’s dedicated to doing his job and keeping Trevor and his nephew safe, regardless of how deeply attracted to Patience he is. After losing a string of nannies for various reasons on short notice, Brodie intends to ensure that they all do their due diligence this time to make sure that Patience’s background is checked thoroughly for any issues that might lead to her either leaving the position suddenly or having to be terminated. Unfortunately, he makes a snap judgment, causing a major clash with Patience. When she suddenly gets sick and other strange and threatening incidents befall her, he’s determined not only to keep her safe and find out who is responsible, but to also prove himself worthy of her and earn a second chance with her.

Unintended Target is billed as light suspense and it is indeed light. The suspense plot feels like it could be better developed and explored. The attraction between Brodie and Patience is well established, however, the development of their relationship didn’t work for me because it was a little rushed considering the circumstances. Reus’ description, character development and interactions, and actions scenes do much to balance out these issues. Readers looking for a quick, light, and suspenseful romance read should find it entertaining.

I received this arc for an honest review.
Patience agrees to put off her vacation to help a friend to be his nanny for the summer. This is because he and his security man have gone through so many. Now even though Patience has not been through Brody’s background check. Trevor who is the father of the children and Brody’s boss tells him to leave it and she is the Nanny yet because of their first meeting Brody misses signs that are happening to Patience and by the time she ends up in the hospital he is beside himself.
Upset with himself he is now working overtime in finding out who harmed her while also admitting to himself and her he has feelings for her. She tells him she feels the same about him. The story keeps you going from beginning to the end and that is what really makes for a good read along with good characters which this book has and is very much worth the read.

The second book in the MacArthur Family, Unintended Target is an intriguing romantic suspense. Brodie and Patience were engaging characters and the action paced, well-paced story line kept me compelled to keep reading throughout

A lighthearted and fun romantic story by Katie Reus. I do enjoy the nanny and the grumpy H trope, this was a novella so it was a quick read. Although this was a fun read, it does have a wee bit of danger though nothing too heavy. I like Patience our h, she might a sweetheart but she's no pushover. Trevor, our H has went through several nannies (gee, I wonder why?) and being the Head of Security he can be suspicious by nature. The interaction between both Patience and Trevor was a delight to read and yes, the sexy times are hot ... hot ... hot!

With pretty low on the angst scale, you can easily spend an afternoon away tucked away with this book.

Patience is a kindergarten teacher on summer break. Her plans involve a pool, some snorkeling, and lots of margaritas. Until her mom calls begging a favor. A friend of the family needs a nanny. He's just taken over custody of his baby nephew after the baby's parents died. The man's nannies keep quitting and none of them will say why. Patience has known him since they were kids, so she of course says yes, but only for the summer. She has a job she loves and she isn't quitting.

But the head of security Brodie MacArthur hasn't been able to do a background check on Patience and it's bothering him that his boss and friend just let her waltz in and take over with the baby. Especially as there have been some credible threats against him. But Patience isn't what he expected, and pretty soon it looks like she might be the next target...and the next nanny to quit.

I loved these two together. There's a scene where Brodie needs to apologize, and he does, and it's a good apology. I love when a character can act like a grown up, and a man who can apologize and then do better is sexy.

These novella-length Romantic Suspense stories Ms. Reus writes really work for me. I hope she writes more down the road. I'm pretty sure the next book is the end of this series. The chemistry is hot, the hero is protective, and the heroine stands up for herself. This story is perfect for when you want something short, sexy, and suspenseful.

Unintended Target is a sweet romance novella. It was a fast paced, enjoyable read, with great characters. This is a standalone, so don’t feel as though you need to read the first novella prior to this one. I always enjoy reading Katie Reus books, and would recommend this one as well!

Katie Reus’ second book, Unintended Target, in the McArthur Family series is of maliciousness were you least expect it...and closer than you think. The characters are easy to warm up to and are relatable, the dialogue carries you through the story effortlessly...and with the perfect blend of tension, deception, and integrity you’re pulled in and lost in a well crafted chain of events.

Unintended Target is a heartwarming and suspenseful novella. I easily connected with the two main characters, Brodie and Patience and enjoyed their story. Brodie is the head of security for a tech company and Patience is a kindergarten teacher, working as a nanny during her summer break for the owner of the tech company.

Brody and Patience have amazing chemistry and from the moment they meet, there is a strong attraction between them. Although Brody is a protective alpha male, he isn't afraid to show Patience how much he cares. Patience is kind and friendly and she enjoys spending time with Brody. Brody takes his job seriously and as he tries to unravel a mystery, he also knows he must keep Patience safe. This is the second book in The MacArthur family series but each book is a standalone. This is short and sweet and well worth reading.

This alpha protective, great, good guy hero swept the heroine and me right off our feet, folks. For such a short read of only 169 pages, I still felt I got a full story of this main couple meeting, butting heads, then bonding hearts. Katie Reus tends to be my go to author when I want a sure bet on an engaging romantic tale.
