This book is quite specialized--it would be appropriate for a college-level class in political science. The author explores the "chains" that keep Russia in its position of power in Europe--the oil, gas, and coal that are necessary and profitable for many people down the line from the source. It was a refreshing change to see more attention paid to smaller countries like Moldova and Slovakia in the discussion.

This book is not worth reading. I have a personal special interest in issues relating to oil and natural gas but I had trouble plowing through "Russian Energy Chains". I suspect that some of the problems may relate to issues of translation but unless you have a deep and abiding interest in Russian supplies of energy and their related political questions you should avoid this book.
