I've read numerous books now with dual timelines, so I wasn't sure about this one going into it. However, it turned out beautifully. In addition, this storyline is a Christian romance which makes it different from many of the others out there.

In present day, two of the main characters are trying to find their way amidst struggles in their own lives when they happen to meet up in Chickadee Creek. Liam has recently lost his brother and is grieving and questioning his own future path as an actor. Chelsea is running from a past that was hurtful , dangerous and negative but isn't sure what she wants out of the future. They are both relatively new Christians that are finding solace within their faith.

Their story flows back and forth with another one in the past of a young woman named Cora who has also escaped an unwanted life and met up with Preston, who is just starting out in Chickadee Creek. The way the two stories go back and forth doesn't feel stilted or awkward. The past actually adds to and enriches the current storyline in the present day.

I really enjoyed the sweet romance between Chelsea and Liam. They had both led very different lives before becoming Christians and meeting one another. You can see how tentative they are with their new relationship - - Chelsea moreso than Liam. It seems he knows right off the bat that she is meant for him, while she's afraid to trust her instincts after her past mistakes. Therefore, seeing it all come together is so satisfying and leaves the reader with a feeling of contentment.

Make You Feel My Love is basically two stories in one with one set in the past and the other the present. Both stories were good but it was slightly jarring to go from one to the other. The characters were all very interesting and pleasant to read about.

I found the characters in Make You Feel My Love to be likable and believable, and the plot to be very intriguing and exciting. I like the author's writing style. Robin Lee Hatcher does a great job telling the stories. I wasn't crazy about going back and forth in time and characters. It made it hard for me to stay in the story, but that could just very well be me. I found the endings to be emotionally satisfying. I would try another book by this author.
I received a copy through NetGalley and have shared my opinion of this well-written book.

Fans of Robin Lee Hatcher will not be disappointed in this offering. Told from two different time periods 100 years apart with a violin that brings these two stories together. Two love stories that stand on their own united by the love of the violin. Readers will root for Chelsea and Liam to discover the other love story of Liam’s great-grandmother, Cora.
Robin Lee Hatcher is a master of romance and taking the reader along for the ride of each romance story she tells. Make You Feel My Love easily finds it’s place as one of my favorite stories from her. Fans of sweet love stories will quickly turn the pages to discover these two romances.
I received an ARC ebook from NetGalley and the publisher, Thomas Nelson, in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet, clean slow rolling romance and women’s fiction.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This story is a beautiful blend of life with the story of today and the glimpse into the past. The author tells a tale ripe with history we often see when generations live in the same area. Even better, she correlates the characters in the present to the characters in the past. The similarities between the two tie the story together in a richly detailed manner.
This story is also one based in Christianity. The characters are struggling with issues and emotions. They not only find each other, but strengthen their commitment and love for Christ as they grow together too. Hatcher develops this delightful romance with a slow burn of developing feelings, never once putting aside God as they find each other.
With a small town homey feel and a story bursting with family history and sweetness, this is a delightful read that will leave you anxious for more from this author!
Over 100 years apart two women find new beginnings, hope, and love in rural Chickadee Creek.
An invitation to help out her great-aunt at her antique shop after a fall, is the perfect escape for Chelsea Spencer who is looking for a place to lay low after leaving am abusive relationship. There she discovers a violin that carries the story of Cora Anderson, a woman over 100 years ago who left a controlling father to find a fresh start on her own.
Chelsea has been through a lot in her life, and I admired her courage in taking that leap of faith to leave a horrible situation. I really liked how she held onto her faith after what she experienced. Aunt Rosemary welcomes Chelsea's help, she is a wealth of stories, with her own unique way of organizing things, an she isn't above some matchmaking!
This something of a dual-timeline read, though the main story is more about Chelsea, I enjoyed both storylines. Cora breaks free of her father's unfavorable plans for her life, and I loved how God brought wonderful friends into her life, as well as her love of music. Liam is re-valuating his life after moving back to Chickadee Creek from life as a working actor in Hollywood, I admired his strong values and his faith.
Overall, this was a touching romance, with wonderfully crafted characters, a welcoming rural community, and an engaging dual time storyline. I loved both Chelsea and Cora, who were strong heroines full of faith and courage. This was a quick read for me, because I didn't want to put it down and I was equally invested in both Cora and Chelsea's stories and where they would lead. Another fantastic read from one of my favorite authors, Robin Lee Hatcher!
Make You Feel My Love - Robin Lee Hatcher
I know there are a lot of dual-time slip stories out there and I have a little secret to share: I’m not a huge fan of them. Having said that, I thought it was very well done in Make You Feel My Love. The problem I have with them is that I usually want to just stay in one place, I don’t relish going back and forth. Sometimes it feels like you’re being jerked about but again in this story, I didn’t experience that.
Liam Chandler is at a crossroads not really knowing what he wants to do. Will he continue his Hollywood acting career, or will he just stay permanently in Chickadee Creek? He has recently lost his younger brother (blessed with wisdom beyond his years) to cancer. I got to really like and feel a connection to Liam through his journal entries about his struggles with his parents, and how much he is still grieving the loss of his brother, Jacob.
Chelsea Spencer has also arrived in Chickadee Creek to help her great-aunt Rosemary recover from surgery, and help her out in running her antique store. Chelsea was a bit harder to connect with but that could be because of the trauma she has experienced, and so kudos to Ms. Hatcher for being able to accurately portray this kind of character! Chelsea was very gun shy to reveal herself to even this reader(in my opinion).
Cora Anderson is trying to make a new life for herself after leaving her family and her betrothed, who she isn’t in love with, and knows he won’t be faithful to her in marriage should she go ahead with it.
Cora leaves all that she knows and makes a new life for herself becoming and obtaining her teacher certification, and she finds herself in Chickadee Creek in 1895, to fill a position as a teacher. It is there she meets Preston Chandler.
This was very sweet and that is the word that kept coming to mind, an incredibly sweet love story between Liam and Chelsea. Their connection to the past to Cora and Preston was poetic, and it was like a slow waltz that took place between each of them. It is not just a love story between two people but also between the people God has created and His hopes for his people to love well.
My gratitude to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson. "I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Stories of the past. Chickadee Creek has a lot of them. When Chelsea Spencer comes to visit her Aunt Rosemary, she is drawn into the past., as she flees from an abusive relationship in her present. Rosemary has been the caretaker of an antique shop, Rosemary and Time, for many years. She knows a lot of the history of Chickadee Creek.
Liam Chandler has history in Chickadee Creek. His family has owned land here for over 150 years. He has a cabin there for hunting and R&R. But when his brother recently died, he needs time away to think. The lure of Hollywood continues to beckon with the next big break. Is he ready to go back? Is his life and faith back on track?
This dual time novel written by Robin Lee Hatcher is compelling, as the characters in both the present day and the 1800's draws you in to their story. Chelsea and Liam, and Cora and Prescott. Different but somewhat the same. A beautiful Christian romance with relationships that draw on God to overcome their fears.
A sweet story that spans two different times, connected by a violin that brings the unlikeliest of couples together.
The author does a wonderful job of crafting a sweet love story for both couples in different time periods. Cora (historical) and Chelsea (contemporary) both arrive in Chickadee Creek, ID to find reprieve from controlling relationships. Hoping the men who have made their lives miserable will not find them in the little town, the women start their lives over. They both find healing for their hearts and souls, with the aid of a priceless violin, and two unsuspecting men who fall in love with them too.
The narrative is light and easy to follow, and includes diary entries by the contemporary hero. Each character has a significant inner journey to face, and each one finds peace, and their happily-ever-afters at the end of the story.
The descriptions of the music helps the reader to imagine the emotion being poured into the songs, and one can imagine Chelsea’s aunt’s antique shop easily. The pages are full of delightful secondary characters that add much color, and humor, to the story.
This is a great beach/summer read if you’re looking for something light with a happy ending for everyone involved.
A huge thanks to Thomas Nelson for my e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. I am not a fan of Historical Fiction but this book changed my mind because woow. This book tells of the story of two women in different times and their love lives if I may simplify it. I genuinely enjoyed the contemporary more because contemporary is my fav but this book was brilliantly written and I can state that Robin did it again. Loved it! Loved it!
Make You Feel My Love by Robin Lee Hatcher is a charming Christian dual timeline that will warm your heart and soul.
The action alternates between present day and late nineteenth century as we follow stories linked by ancestry. Both stories have themes echoing each other. Both stories tell of God who is faithful, urging us to choose faith not fear.
There is the theme of forgiveness. It is not always easy to do but it is vital for our well-being.
In both tales there is the theme of domestic abuse. It takes many forms, not just physical but verbal too. “Chelsea covered her ears … trying to shut out the voices from the past.” We need to silence the hateful words from the enemy and listen to the life-affirming voice of God.
When life is hard, we see that God is still faithful. “Nothing we go through is wasted in God’s economy.” We learn our greatest lessons at times of greatest trial.
“I wasn’t looking for God.” We do not need to be looking for God in order to be found by Him. When He comes knocking on the door of our hearts, we need to invite Him in.
Both time periods have the theme of rescue – women are rescued from their situations due to personal strength of character and love. Not all men are out to put women down. God rescues us from our lives of disconnection to Him.
A character is struggling with loss. He feels “guilty for being alive.” As a bond is severed by death, the love and the memories remain.
Those with the most treasure are those who love well. Chasing earthly treasures of wealth and power will never bring contentment. “For all his wealth and power, he was a miserable man. He would never have enough.” The gods of this world will never satisfy. Only when we rest in God can we find true rest and contentment.
I really loved Make You Feel My Love. The characters were warm and welcoming, and the presence of God shone through the words of Robin Lee Hatcher.
Robin Lee Hatcher, a talented story teller, has written a beautiful story of hope. Chelsea left behind an abusive boyfriend. Liam is healing from family wounds. Both characters prefer to hide instead of opening themselves up to more hurt. A violin connects them to the past and a woman named Cora, who longed for a new beginning. I loved reading Cora’s story as she set out on her own in the 1800s. Hatcher sprinkles Chelsea and Liam’s heart wrenching stories with encouragement and weaves in Bible verses filled with wisdom. I hope this story is read by anyone who feels lost or overwhelmed by a difficult situation, because the reader can gain confidence and know God offers peace and joy. If you enjoy stories set in small towns, with good characters or stories that point to a better way, read Make You Feel My Love. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I enjoyed this Christian romance. I liked how the story jumped from present day to the late 1800s throughout. The connection to Liam was cool. Chelsea was a great character & it was interesting to see how her developing faith helped her get through her abusive past. The faith connection throughout the book was powerful. I hope when the actual book is printed, the breaks between the story & Liam's journal will be more clear. I highly recommend reading this book for an interesting look at how faith can get you through tough times & bring beauty from the ashes, which seems to be this book's theme.
Chelsea in in Chickadee Creek to help her great aunt Rosemary get her antique store back up and running after a fall. Chelsea is also in town to heal from a bad relationship with a boyfriend that was very possessive. She hopes he can't find any connections to where she is. Liam is in Chickadee Creek trying to recovery of his grief of losing his brother to Cancer. He is an actor that has almost fulfilled his Hollywood dream. Chelsea and Liam find out they have a history through a violin she finds in the antique shop.
This is a nice cozy read for the beach or setting in front of a cozy fire.
Robin Lee Hatcher has become one of my all time favorite authors, and I especially adore her books where dual timelines play a part. Make You Feel My Love is the book that the Christian publishing world has been desperately in need of, and I'm not sure words can even express how much I adored this particular title.
One of my favorite things about this author's books is the fact that faith is always at the front and center. This beautiful story focuses around two strong female protagonists, one in the present day and one in the 1890's, who are trying to put the traumatic abuse of their past behind them. When Chelsea in the present day encounters a beautiful antique violin in her great aunt's store, it sparks a journey to discover the history of the previous owner (Cora), and the way it ties into Cora's relative Liam in the present day.
As Cora and Preston grow closer in the past, and Liam and Chelsea begin to develop feelings in the present, the reader gets a first hand view of the healing that comes along in the process and how both couples are determined to let go and let God no matter the circumstances. I loved the way that faith in Jesus is represented as not an absence of problems, but rather the guarantee that you will get through it with Him standing by your side. Rarely have I seen the faith element be so seamlessly and authentically inserted into a story, and it speaks volumes of the talent of this author.
Make You Feel My Love is a breathtakingly beautiful story that highlights faith, family, friendship and love, and is truly Robin Lee Hatcher at her best. This is definitely one of the best books I've read this year, and I can't possibly recommend it enough.
Final Rating: 5/5.
Thanks so much to Thomas Nelson for allowing me to advance read and review this!
This book has a lot going on. Not only is it a time slip novel but it also has some journal entries. To be completely honest it was a lot to keep track of.
I enjoyed learning the Chandler family history and also learning about Liam and Chelsea's pasts too. They both experienced quite a few challenges in life and it was neat to watch them overcome those.
The romance in this book was pretty minor. It was more of a friendship turned romance. The more important themes in this book were overcoming past loss and trials.
Overall this was a good book that I would especially recommend to lovers of dual time stories.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
A novel with two time periods running through it. Two female characters, with traumatic pasts. The connection is a small town in Idaho and the Chandler name. Chelsea Spencer comes to Chickadee Creek fleeing from her past life, to help her Aunt Rosemary, in her antique store, while her Aunt recovers from a fall; will Chelsea's past catch up to her, or will she be able to get past it and find herself?
Chelsea loves organizing things , it is in the antique store, that she discovers the items found belonging to Cora Anderson Chandler. Chelsea, knows there's a story behind the items she found.
