Really liked this book and the romance. The couple were really good.

The descriptions of the scenery was brilliant and the chases were so exciting. Definitely an exciting book.

Isobel and Kerr are quite the crazy couple in this story, but I will say this, they are very smart when it comes to paybacks. I liked the comedic moments among the characters while speaking about how they became attached to their betrothed. Isobel character stood out the most for me. It’s how she controlled the keep or managed it without her brother assistance. How she cared for all who looked to her for guidance.
Kerr was happily in love with Isobel for that. Their romance was entertaining for me. I was curious to see how he would win Isobel heart. In all this was a good book to read.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. Wow what can I say about this title it was just an awesome read. This book was just something so wonderfully different I’ve never quite read anything like this. You should read to find out you won’t be disappointed. I’m definitely going to read more by this author.

Highland Thief is the 5th book in The Sons of Gregor MacLeod Series. This book is the story of Kerr Macalister and Isobel MacKinnon. Kerr has decided Isobel will be his wife but Isobel will not be told who she will marry. Even though Isobel spent most of her childhood in love with Kerr, an incident that occurred between them has left her holding a grudge. Now Kerr will need to prove his love for her.
I love this series but I had my doubts that I would enjoy Kerr and Isobel’s story. The beginning of the book, I found Isobel’s character unlikeable but fortunately as I continued to read, she redeemed herself. I always enjoyed the bantering and how the plot developed in this story. There was never a dull moment in their adventure. I am pleased to see that they finally had their happy ever after. I really hope there will be more in this series (or some kind of spin off 😉)
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've enjoyed Alyson McLayne's Highlander romances since her first and enjoyed this newest one -- it's a lovely second chance at romance with all sorts of Highlander twists thrown in.

This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily given and In my own words.
Great characters. Each having their own stories but bonded together in some way. My only criticism is that I felt it took a bit too long to get to the heart of the reason for the animosity the "beauty" felt to the man she so obviously loves

This in the fifth book in the The Sons of Gregor MacLeod series. Unfortunately, I haven't read any of the previous books. I have obviously missed some of the background and history of Isobel and Kerr and their relationship leading upto this point. But it didn't spoil the story for me, you get enough of a recap to understand what is going on to enjoy it and keep up.

The wit and personality of Izzy was enough to keep me turning the pages. She has been in love with Kerr Macalister for as long as she can remember and will stop at nothing to make him her own. Their chemistry was off the chart from the beginning of the book, Izzy cooks up various scenes to ensnare Kerr and make him prove his love for her, sometimes getting herself into trouble because of it. And at one point getting caught up in a siege. This started of as fun, but by the time I was getting to the end of the book her behaviour was becoming less amusing and more annoying, she was acting like a spoilt brat. Causing more trouble for the clans and Kerr and leading them deeper into danger.

All the sons of the MacLeod are strong alpha males and obviously have their own stories to tell. All in all I enjoyed the book and the characters so I will definitely be getting ahold of the previous books to fill in the pieces.

A wonderful book by a fantastic author. One of my favorite books in this series. Filled with witty banter and engaging scenes that make this a keep-you-up-all-night kind of read.

After Highland Conquest I was delighted to read about the last McGregor son: Kerr mac Alistair. He has his eyes set on Isobel Mackinnon. However, Izzy seems to be dead set on keeping him at bay.

Izzy loves to pull pranks with people of her clan as a way of retribution when they did a minor offense. In this way, order is restored in the clan with a touch of humor.

But for some reason, trying to manoever Kerr into a put of manure, feels very differently for Izzy than her other pranks. Maybe it is because Kerr has stated his intention to marry her. Well, Izzy will decide for herself, thank you very much! And although Izzy has had a crush on Kerr for years, she hasn’t forgotten his rejection all those years ago.

So, when her manure trap fails, she invents the ultimate prank: she pretends she is eloping with someone else! Kerr can’t believe it, when he hears that Izzy will elope with another guy. It must be another prank, now is it? Kerr realizes that he has to do something t avoid losing Izzy. So, he ends up kidnapping Izzy, before she can elope. Together they roam the woods, but then they encounter a situation, which can endanger their entire clan. while working together Izzy realizes that maybe this prank go bad may be the best that has happened to her.

A wonderful and funny read. Izzy is a feisty woman, who has her own opinion and is not afraid to show it. She is awesome. And Kern is just a sweetheart. Big and burly and a real warrior, yet afraid to be rejected by a girl.

Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

This is the last in the series and I honestly wish there was more. I have loved the Sons of Gregor MacLeod series and men. What I wasn’t too fond of this time around was Isobel.

I have enjoyed Kerr from the beginning. I couldn’t wait to see who McLayne chose for Kerr but what a disappointment. Isobel was nothing but a selfish, childish brat who did things half the time I couldn’t even understand. Why pull the stuff she does on Kerr? And why does Kerr allow it and still want her?

I really wish the series had not ended this way. But I have enjoyed the series up to now. I wouldn’t say this was the worst book ever or anything but what it is would be the least favorite of the series.

With all that being said the series is worth reading and I look forward to the next series by McLayne.

I haven't read any of the previous books in this series so I went into this one without any prior knowledge or feelings towards any of the characters. I did like the overall story, the hero (Kerr), and McLayne's writing. I also very much would like to go back to the beginning of the series and read the stories of the other foster brothers'.

However, I think what stopped me from loving this book was the heroine (Isobel). I struggled to connect with her throughout the entire story. She spends a lot of time in this book devising traps (aka pranks) for people as form of serving justice for one reason or another, and I've never been a fan of that type of behaviour. But that's just me. Other readers could definitely enjoy her craftsy actions.

Aside from the heroine, there were several things I did really like in this story. The first being the general premise of Gregor MacLeod's "sons". These sons are not biologically related to him but have been fostered together in an attempt to unite the clans and build stronger, lasting relationships. I also really enjoyed the traveller and his companion that Kerr and Isobel stumble upon. Their interactions really added to the story and helped make certain scenes flow a little more smoothly by breaking up what could have been a never-ending stalemate.

Overall, this was a fun read and reminded me of my love for historical romances, especially ones involving highlanders. I would definitely pick up more of McLayne's stories in the future (and have plans to continue this series starting from book one).

I've really enjoyed this series thus far and the last book had me really excited to get Kerr and Isobel's story next! While I enjoyed the writing, atmosphere, and conflicts, the love story overall was a little disappointing just because I didn't enjoy the characters and their motives/personalities as much as I wish I did. It was still am enjoyable story and I look forward to reading what the author comes up with in the future.

This is the fifth book in the MacLeod series and follows the last unmarried foster brother. While it could be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading it as part of the series. The overarching plot and previous romances are referenced, and at times, integral to the story. Also, starting from the beginning of the series allows more time for you to enjoy McLayne's excellent writing and storytelling. The chemistry between the two leads, Kerr and Isobel, is apparent; as is the chemistry between the foster brothers. And you shouldn't miss out on the other books.

There are two separate but converging plots. One is the romance between Kerr and Isobel. Kerr is determined to have Isobel for his wife and Isobel is determined he won't...maybe....she's still trying to figure it out. She has reservations about whether Kerr loves her and doesn't just view her as property to protect. The romance between the two is one of learning to communicate (with a mix of hijinks thrown in) and learning how to trust in one another. The romance is slow burn--at times I felt it slowed the story down. Too much time is spent going over the same arguments in both Kerr and Isobel's heads before actually talking with each other.

The pace picked up quickly around the 70% mark with the addition of the other plot. The book series has long been about taking care of a looming threat from an unknown source. With this book, that overarching plot has been finished. Without giving too much away, that overarching series plot does align with the romance plot without feeling contrived. I felt that the battle, and the reveal, that the series has been leading to was anti-climatic compared to the previous books..

Overall, I highly recommend this book to both previous readers of the series; they won't be disappointed. And I'm confident any readers that picked this book read without being aware of the previous one would enjoy the romance and banter between Kerr and Isobel and be intrigued to start from the beginning. I think readers of Julie Garwood's and Maya Bank's highland romances would enjoy this as McLayne's book has the same humor, intrigue, and romance.

Well done and very enjoyable! This was my first book by Alyson McLayne and I'm going to keep her in my watchlist from now on! Highland Thief was well written with great main character development, side characters and witty banter. I loved how Kerr truly appreciated Isobel's quirky personality. He's a big fierce warrior with a soft spot for the woman he loves! I just loved these main characters!

This book was well-rounded with action, adventure, romance and thrill-of-the-chase intrigue. Highly recommended and thoroughly enjoyed!

This is book 5 in the Sons of Gregor MacLeod series. I have was very excited to read this series and I wish that I could say that I loved this series because I have loved all of the other books, but Isobel held out too long for me. This is Kerr Macalister and Isobel MacKinnon's story. I really wanted to love this book, but I personally just found Isobel to be a spoiled brat. I did not find her endearing at all. I know that I was supposed to find her tricks, etc. cute, but I just found them to be immature. At this point in history I am unsure how she did not just end up dead.

While the second half of the book was an improvement, I struggled greatly to get through the first half. There might be a reader out there who would be able to look past Isobel's immaturity, but I am not that reader. I am glad that I read it, so I will be prepared for future books by Alyson McLayne because I am going to consider this anomaly.

This book has an interesting premise and the first 20% hooked me a lot. I loved how we get to know Isobel and Kerr immediately, as well as their love-hate relationship. There are times wherein they are genuinely cute together and have great chemistry. However, beyond the 20% mark, it slowly got boring and less interesting due to the very slow pacing on top of the heavy descriptions of everything. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm for this book dwindles down as I reach the end because of that. I still think that reader who likes character-driven books will like this one.

Highland Thief
The Sons of Gregor MacLeod #5
Alyson McLayne
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

When Kerr Macalister decides that he's going to make Isobel MacKinnon his wife, everyone knows that it will happen because when Kerr makes up his mind there is no changing it.

Isobel has spent for what seems like forever in love with the same, tall ,dark, and very sexy scotman, but it was at the age of 15 when she tried and failed to get Kerr to kiss her, that things went downhill.
That's all changed now and it's Kerr who's trying to entice her, but to Isobel that is not going to happen because when she's angry with someone she remains that way. What does Kerr do next when he's not getting his way? Why he kidnapps her and takes her to a remote cabin and tries to show her what love is, all the while being chased by their enemies.

Alyson McLayne once again writes a fabulous book. She takes us through the highlands with wonderfully rich descriptions that will make you feel you were right there racing on the horse with Isobel and Kerr. I found it to be the perfect ending to the sons of Gregor. The two main characters gave me great fun at times and the perfect amount of frustration at others. They ended up being absolutely perfect for each other and I think Ms. McLayne gave us the perfect 5 star read.

Highly entertaining and well written. Kerr and Isobel are explosive together and are a fitting couple for the conclusion of The Sons of Gregor MacLeod series. Would recommend for all readers of Highlander novels.
