Unfortunately I didn't realize this was a series and I was a bit muddled as I made my way through it. I couldn't get ahold of a copy of the first book. It was intriguing and I just wish that I had read the first one to help this one make more sense in my mind.

This was such a quick and gripping story to read. I went in with zero expectations and it was so eye-opening, fast paced and really enjoyable. It shows how a modern day millionaire has deeper issues that his businesses. Especially in a time like this where people have more and more burn-outs I think this book perfectly highlights the importance of putting feelings and unresolved issues above success. Besides this, it's a heartwarming story about true love and how different cultures need to find their way together. It even includes family trauma's that can spin your life in a direction that wouldn't at all be necessary if you only knew the truth...

Mission in Paris 1990 is the story of how an American media tycoon, Robert Samberg, whose youth in 1968 tied him to Vietnam's future, is recruited to serve his country, never expecting that a mission to explore political reconciliation would lead him to a path of personal reconciliation. On the eve of his greatest business triumph, he rediscovers My Hanh, a long-lost love from Vietnam, and learns they have a son. Robert's life is upended in this tale about the enduring strength of love and the power of forgiveness. This novel, set during the normalization of relations between the U.S. and Vietnam, explores reconciliation among people and nations. It also tells a powerful love story - between a man and a woman as well as between a father and a son.

Set during the years post Vietnam when America and Vietnamese are attempting to rebuild a relationship, this novel shows the effects of war on love, relationships and family. I received this novel as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
