I was amazed at the author’s story and her resilience in facing such a tragic medical situation. The strength and determination Mallory displays, along with the love and support of her family were awe inspiring. I went into this book assuming it would share how her faith and prayers made an impact on her life. I was sad that this was not the case. But I did appreciate Mallory’s story and her willingness to share how she achieved so many medals as a paralympic swimmer. This book will challenge you to not give up even when faced with such horrific struggles.

This is a fantastic book! Mallory is so very open as she brings you along with her in a journey over 12 years where her life completely changes, multiple times. The author finds ways to weave inspirational and motivational sentiments throughout personal accounts of trauma, both physical and mental. Mallory’s goal for her adult life has been to share information about disabilities and advocate, while also breaking down barriers along the way. This book offers valuable information about disabilities, especially paralysis, in addition to the system of the paralympics and how decisions are made related to classifying disabled athletes. Whether you are looking for an enjoyable memoir, an inspirational story or to learn about life with disabilities, this book does it all and more! I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher, Nelson Books for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Limitless is a raw and powerful read by Mallory Weggermann.

After being paralyized, Mallory found a way to more forward with her life and find joy again. I admire her determination to succeed and to not give into her limitations.

Her story is incredible and she tells it all in an enjoyable manner.

Her story includes so many lessons that she's learned over the years, leaving the reader with a whole lot of inspiration. She excelled in adapting to all life threw at her, and her tale is a beautiful one.

Limitless is a fantastic story. Mallory Weggemann has suffered a lot of setbacks in her life that would have left others devastated. But wow, she is amazing in the way she dealt with her setbacks and worked to overcome all her problems. I am impressed and recommend this book to anyone looking for a positive spin on life.

When a routine medical procedure left teenager Mallory Weggemann paralyzed from the waist down, life would never be the same again. A keen swimmer, with a bright future ahead of her, Mallory was now faced with a life wheelchair-bound. A week after her injury, she had a mental shift & like the determined toddler whose oft-used phrase “I do it” became a family joke, the teenage Mallory took control of her life and grew determined to overcome the challenges & forge a new path in life. With the support of her loving and very determined family, and a gentle push from her older sister, Mallory is persuaded to try swimming again and quickly finds a whole new focus for her life.
With a lot of hard work, Mallory soon starts to excel in para-swimming and less than two years after becoming paralysed, Mallory had broken eight world records and was heading for the London 2012 Paralympic games. Even when a reclassification meant that she did not achieve the Olympic success that she & those around her had expected, she became more determined and as focussed on getting stronger and pushing her limits in the pool, she also starts to push her limits out of the pool – from public speaking to living independently, nothing will hold her back.
Today Mallory is a Paralympic gold-medalist, world champion swimmer, Sports commentator & speaker – she uses her extraordinary story to inspire others and to work towards not only disability awareness but true acceptance of those with disabilities – ensuring they are visible in all walks of life.

Prior to reading this book I was not really familiar with Mallory Weggemann – I am not from the USA so her name is not well known and I had heard nothing of her story. Having read it, I will be paying particular attention to the Paralympic swimming during the Tokyo 2021 games!
Ultimately Mallory’s story reminds us that whatever circumstances we face, we have the ability to overcome the challenges and not only survive, but flourish.
The writing style and flow of the book make it easy to read and I highly recommend it to anyone.

While sharing the story of her life since her paralysis in 2008, Mallory leaves the reader with a beautiful gift in each chapter; she not only shares the events that have transpired but also shared the wisdom she has amassed along the way.

I really enjoyed this story of Mallory's journey thus far! I learned a lot about Paralympic swimming, like the categorization process and just how much she had to fight to get to a place where she felt happy and like she was achieving her dreams. It felt a bit of a cross between a Christian/faith memoir and a sports memoir, as though the narrative couldn't decide between the two - I was interested in both, but it didn't mesh perfectly. Great read!

Limitless is an autobiography written by Mallory Weggemann with Tiffany Yecke Brooks.

Summary: At the age of eighteen, Mallory walked into a hospital for a simple medical procedure. She left the hospital paralyzed from the waist down.

This book chronicles Mallory’s life before and after paralysis, and details her perseverance and commitment to redefine her life-on her own terms.

Even with multiple setbacks, Mallory has continually worked towards embracing her circumstances and achieving her dreams.

My Thoughts: This book is very good. It is heart-breaking, yet encouraging and inspirational. Mallory’s life is filled with disappointments and broken dreams, and yet the way she has persevered through those circumstances, achieved her dreams, and the attitude in which she has done so are a testament not only to her, but an inspiration to anyone who is going through or has gone through trying circumstances.

The book was a bit too much inspirational speech at times, but overall is well-written, very detailed, and quite fascinating.

I would definitely recommend this book, and believe it is worth the read.

I would like to thank Thomas Nelson for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!

There's so much I liked about this book, and so much I ... had mixed feelings about.

Being published by a Christian publishing division and initially discovered in the "Christian" genre on NetGalley, I had higher expectations of faith content than I felt were really included here. Many times, Mallory's successes were attributed to herself and her support system--certainly crucial components!--but nothing at all attributed to God. We see a handful of references to prayer and a church wedding and quote of 1 Corinthians 13, but also see living together outside marriage and references to diversity/inclusion for sexual orientation.

Those concerns aside, I did feel that Mallory's story is incredible and admirable. She is truly a present-day, real-life example of "grit" (see Angela Duckworth's book titled that) or "growth mindset" (see Carol Dweck's book "Mindset"). It was amazing to read how she just kept rising above setback after setback.

Concerns aside, I do recommend the read.

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I thought this book was inspiring and well-written. Mallory alludes to her faith occasionally, but it seems she was self-determined to work her hardest to make her dreams come true. While I applaud her mindset and hard work, I would have like to see more about her faith journey in conjunction with her physical and emotional journey.

This is an encouraging and inspiring biography. I'd never heard of Mallory prior to reading this book. I laughed and cried at Weggemann's openness. This book is one that could be enjoyed by anyone going through challenges, health and other ones. She shows resilience and the ability to stay positive despite life's circumstances. And she's impacting others through her story.

This is an amazing book about the real life of the author. She suffered an injury and came back from it. The author shares her experiences and shares with the readers that it is critical to redefine limitations, that function and healing goes back and forth--it is not always a straight line. Also, people have to embrace their comeback and stick with whatever they face. Circumstances change, challenges change, continue to confront the difficulties. Author Mallory Weggeman has done so in an amazing way, and her story is incredible. Highly inspiration and highly recommended.
