First of all, many thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The first 2/3 of this book were so slow I almost DNF it.
I’ll just tell you this, the story was completely unbelievable. These thins would never happen in real life. And some things I’m the book were just ridiculous, like did the author do any research before putting it in the book?
This just wasn’t my type of book, unfortunately.

The multiple POVs and multiple timelines confused me for the first few chapters but once I got the lay of the land I really enjoyed the twists and turns.

I did find myself having to pay more attention to the chapters

I just start off by saying why isn’t this getting more hype??! Character development was spot on. It was a gripping story from start to finish! Excited to see what this author is working on after an amazing debut.

Not My Daughter was my first Suzy K. Quinn novel, and I really enjoyed it, so it definitely won't be my last! I liked that the story was told from the perspectives of both Lorna and Liberty and that it went back and forth between the past and the present. This book kept me guessing, and I thought the ending was great. Thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360 for giving me the opportunity to read and review Not My Daughter. : )

None of the characters were really fleshed out so it was hard to form opinions about them. The ending was absolutely awkward. The way the daughter turned the tables in the end was just really odd and unbelievable. Thanks to Netgalley for a digital arc in exchange for an honest review.

Reading Between the Wines book review #71/115 for 2021:
Rating: 4.5 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 1/2
Book 🎧: Stay Home
Author: Suzy K Quinn
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASED on June 15, 2021!!!
Recommended to readers who like a book that throws in unexpected twists.

Sipping thoughts: Wow! This book had me changing my mind about what was happening like after every chapter. And then when I realized the main twist had been revealed, I thought my shock and awe was done. But to my surprise, Quinn kept them coming. This book goes back and forth from one time period to another but is easy to follow. If you like books that you think is going to go one way but then leaves you like OMG, this is the book for you.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @Harper360 for an advanced copy of @NotMyDaughter

Lorna Miller, 17, and an American, is nervous about registering the birth of her daughter, Liberty. Lorna is a cancer survivor and lives with her older sister, Dee.

When Lorna was 16, she became enthralled by rock star, Michael Ray. He spied her at one of his concerts and she eagerly joined the tour as his girlfriend although he has long been married.

Sixteen years later

Lorna and Liberty live in the UK. After many years, Lorna is engaged to marry Nick, the father of 4-year-old Darcy, a child with autism. Liberty is an intelligent girl who loves music and enjoys helping with Darcy and keeping her calm. Lorna does all she can to try and keep Liberty close to home, but at 16, the girl is ready to spread her wings and learn more about life. So when Liberty finally learns who her father is, she is determined to meet him, and surprisingly enough he lives close by. Lorna is frantic and wants to know where Liberty is.

This book is many things. There is cruelty; teenagers who idolize musicians; motherly love; drugs; alcohol; rape; etc. It switches from present time to the past. Readers will wonder who the crazy one is, Michael or Lorna. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering how people can live in this entertainment world. The cruelty and perfectly portrayed narcissism is mind-boggling. I’m sure that readers will enjoy this cringe-worthy book.

I did not read Not My Daughter by Suzy K Quinn through an educator lens.

Not My Daughter by Suzy K Quinn was fantastic! I could not put this book down and read it through an entire baseball tournament. I was fascinated by the dynamics of the characters, the power struggles and the back story that was so well created. Liberty's talent and intellect was a great twist to save them!

4.5 stars
TW: underage sex with a minor, drinking, domestic physical, emotional, and mental abuse.
What would you do if the father you hoped to meet turned out to be the monster your mother has been protecting you from all your life?
This book was a crazy roller coaster ride! The opening chapter begins with a young girl registering the birth of a baby girl, Liberty under weird circumstances. Then the story picks up sixteen years later and that is where things take off. This book moved through events in both the past and present. I enjoyed the short chapters, the flow of the writing, and how the author was able to develop interesting yet creepy characters. I liked the build up of the tense between Lorna and Liberty, which led to Liberty is willing to find her father by any means. This book kept me on my toes. I was really unsure who to believe, at times, during some of the chapters. The events were told in the povs of the main characters. Each character had a very unique voice, which made it easy to switch between the characters as well as keep up the events taking place within their chapters. Some of the supporting characters were not interesting such as Nick, Lorna's partner. It was not really needed and added nothing to the story. I found the first part of the book to be well done and flowed smoothly, but as the book came to a close the events seemed to be more unrealistic and a bit of a let down. The story seemed to have ended rather quickly. Overall, I would recommend this book to those who are fans of domestic psychological thrillers. I can't wait to read more books by this author in the future.

2.5 Stars

This book had me flipping the pages so fast. Even though I figured out where this was going pretty quickly I enjoyed the beginning of this book SO much. The writing was captivating I could not put this book down and I even managed to read it in one sitting. The topics discussed are very timely and interesting, the author handled a lot of tough subjects with sensitivity.

BUT...I did find the ending parts of the book a REALLY hard to believe, especially since the daughter in question is sixteen years old. But is was so readable in the first half i am willing to give it an average rating. My other complaint...<spoiler>don't name your book "Not My Daughter" when it is supposed to be part of the surprising plot line.</spoiler>

It was an okay read but not great. I was a little bit bored and wasn't a fan of the ending. Giving it 3 stars as it wasn't for me but others may enjoy it.

I enjoyed this book. I didn't read the blurb before jumping in and the cover made me have an idea that honestly was so far from the concept of the book. If you've ever loved the lead singer of a rock band hoping that you'll fall in love and run away together, grab this book and see if you still want that dream when you finish. There might be some parts that just didn't line up for me, but I did laugh out loud a few times specifically with the "What you talking about, Willis?" dog stare. I listened to the audio version of this book also. Thanks to NetGalley for the free ARC to view. All opinions are my own.

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

The plot sounded so interesting but the mystery was flat and took so long to develop I had long since stopped caring. Not even an entertaining guilty pleasure

I couldn’t finish this one, I made it about halfway and gave up. I didn’t like the characters and found I just didn’t care where the story went. I’m sure others will love it, it just wasn’t for me.
