A great resource for introducing children aged nine to twelve to the overarching narrative of the Bible. With engaging storytelling and relatable language, it effectively helps kids understand their role in God's story.

Finding Your Place in God's Great Story by Jim Johnson and Paul Basden is a great introduction to what God and the Bible are all about. The book gives a brief overview of the Bible and it's history that makes it easy for for the 8-12 year olds to understand. I liked that it was written with language and humor that the age demographic would understand. I also loved the reminder that we are all apart of God's Great Story. I recommend this book to those in ministry as well as friends and family who are looking for a resource to help engage their kids to learn about God and Bible History. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. (This review is also on Goodreads.)

Great book for your tween! This is a practical book written for nine to twelve-year-olds to see the Bible as one complete story and where they fit in. My almost nine-year-old is an advanced bookworm, and this is right up his alley. If your child doesn’t like to read or read independently, then it may not be for them.

This would not be good to straight read as family devotions with kids of different ages as the chapters are longer. You could summarize the concepts for family time, but best read as your child would read a chapter book.

Finding Your Place in God's Great Story for Kids
A Book About the Bible and You
by Jim Johnson, Paul Basden
Back of the Book: “By breaking the Bible up into eight easy-to-understand sections, children ages nine to twelve will see God’s Word as one complete story and discover their role in it.
From Genesis to Revelation, God has a story to tell: He created us so he could know and love us, and because he knew we wouldn’t be able to love and obey him perfectly, he sent his son to die for us so that we could spend eternity with him.
Introducing children to the major themes and key characters in the Bible, Finding Your Place in God’s Great Story for Kids will help tweens better understand the gospel message and how to apply it to their lives. They will also begin to see the narrative threads that run throughout the Bible and gain a deeper appreciation of God’s Word and his immeasurable love for them.
Perfect for parents, grandparents, youth pastors, and Sunday school teachers to share with tweens, this book will strengthen children’s faith and increase their knowledge of the Bible and God.”
Impressions: So, 8 easy sections in this book equals 8 long wordy sections. We read this as a family and my boys were zoning out unfortunately because the sections were too long. The subsections in each chapter were shorter but we didn’t know when to break or continue. I also struggled with some of the ideas or phrases that were used. One example is when the author uses states we are “cocreators with the Ultimate Creator.” I don’t know if I’d say I’m a co- anything to God. He is the Ultimate creator and I can create from His abilities he has gifted me.
Ultimately I did not enjoy this book and didn’t continue reading it with my family.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here.
