The story was interesting and different — I enjoyed the twists. The setting was well described. I had a firm picture of Ali in my head — some of the other characters were not described as well.

The overview of The Guilt Trip caught my attention. And I love books where the plot takes unexpected twists and turns. This is very true of The Guilt Trip. However, there are so many plots that are interwoven that it becomes hard to follow, very much a literary who's on first, who's on second.
Out of deference to the publisher and the author, I will not post my review.

I loved this book! I really relate to one of the main characters and the way get brain works and how she gets caught up in overthinking and second guessing herself. Highly recommend for anyone that loves a good mystery or domestic drama. The epilogue still has me guessing and I love that!

I was quickly absorbed by the troupe of destination wedding, four friends or not, maybe six and the murder mystery element. I found the writing
well executed and fast paced. I am not sure I completely got the last couple chapters and wrap up but I did resist going back to re read
the ending pages, at least for now. I liked the POV and the way Rachel was characterized.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me read this book. Friends from college garher in Portugal for a wedding. Most of the friends are hiding secrets from one another. This book kept me interested from the first page.

I really enjoyed The Guilt Trip! I read it in one sitting and it kept my attention. It’s a great beach read!

Thrilled to start what seems to be the perfect domestic thriller with that beautifully significant title considering we know from the prologue that a disastrous ending involving hospitals and police awaits us at the conclusion of a destination wedding for six family members and friends. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half, delving into the probable scenarios depending on which perception of the story we are reading at any given time, separating innuendo and rumor and not accepting certain aspects because characters don’t want them to be true. The writing is great, the plot seems plausible and I couldn’t wait to pick it up again. The middle dragged a little but I was so looking forward to the last third where all the action would take place and lies would be exposed and lives changed. The actual ending didn’t actually happen until the last few pages and left me wanting more. We have been waiting from the prologue right? Instead it felt out of place for the people involved, with an unnecessary fuzzy element that didn’t work for me. Four and a half stars for the first half, three for the middle and one for the end makes me offer three for the whole novel, until I think back to my eagerness and delight at the beginning so I end up with almost four.

A fun wild ride!

This isn’t your traditional mystery thriller. While the book was hitting on a lot of my favorite tropes, don’t expect a real murder mystery.
What this book does have are twists and turns around every corner. You’ll never know who to trust or just how things will end up until the very end.

This wasn’t the best book I’ve read. The storyline was at times too predictable. Several of the characters weren’t very likable. It did keep me intrigued to know who was having the affair, so I will give it that. It kept me wanting to read & interested. Didn’t like how much back stabbing there was in it & thought it could have been better written. Thank you netgalley for providing me a copy for an honest review

I was able to read a copy from Netgalley for an honest review.
This book wasn’t wait I first thought it would be. So I had a hard time getting into the story, but after a bought 50% way through things started picking up and then I started getting invested into the story. It’s a 3 star for me just because I just found the first half a little dull. (Sorry)

3.5 stars. Very suspenseful, lots of drama, and will keep you guessing! The Guilt Trip was a very quick read and difficult to put down during the second half!
Three couples are staying at a gorgeous beach house for one of the couple’s destination wedding in Portugal. There is a lot of history between this group and everyone seems to be fighting to keep their secrets hidden or uncover the truth about something else. All of the friendships and marriages are starting to unravel until the day of the wedding when it all comes to a head and the wedding ends in disaster! Who was telling the truth and who will end up drowning in their lies?
Thanks to #NetGalley, Sandie Jones, and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of #TheGuiltTrip in exchange for an honest review.

This was the second novel I have read by Sandie Jones'.
First of all, kudos for such a clever title! Guilt abounds in Jones' character-driven tale filled with lies, half truths, and outright deceit. The question begs to be asked, who is the victim and who carries the blame?
Jones invests the time needed to develop a robust array of characters. She intertwines their relationships, building a web of intrigue. You will get caught up in the layers of deception, second guessing their motives time and again.
An unexpected climax will leave you asking questions about what really happened that last night in paradise?

I simply adore the cover art of The Guilt Trip and overall the writing was good in this tale of love, jealousy, and deceit.
This story swerves a bit out of my genre zone and at times felt shallow . . . more like a soap opera during sweeps week (I’m guessing that last comment reveals my age). I usually prefer to peel back layers . . . deeper, darker novels with more complex personalities and motivations.
Sandie Jones features several self-absorbed characters (sometimes real enough to annoy) that would benefit from many hours of couch time in a therapist’s office going over the basics of honesty and proper communication skills.
For some, this will make a satisfying lazy day beach read.
I’d like to thank the author, NetGalley, and Minotaur Books for allowing me to read an advance copy of The Guilt Trip for an honest review.

Thanks so much for this ARC! Although, this one wasn't for me. I found the characters really unapproachable and unlikeable and the plot didn't do it for me. While I had higher hopes for this thriller, it wasn't my cup of tea, but it seems like many others have enjoyed it! Thanks again for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Guilt Trip is full is suspense and lots of plot twists as Rachel and her husband Jack travel to Portugal with her best friend Paige and Paige’s husband Noah, who also happens to be Rachel’s best friend from college, for a wedding. The book is well written, and the characters are well developed. This interwoven story sucked me right in, and I couldn’t put it down. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Step into a world where you vacation, in a foriegn country, with your most obnoxious frenemies. Make awful swipes at them at every possible opportunity, then sink into the most ridiculously telegraphed twist you've experienced in some time. Alternately, skip this one entirely.

I feel like with every thriller a reviewer will say, "I couldn't put it down!" but really.... I couldn't put this down! I had to finish the book as soon as I started it. There's so much that happens, so many twists and turns, and it's so intricately woven that you can't help but be sucked in! Highly recommend to anyone who loves a great thriller. While reading, it really did play like a blockbuster movie in my head. I'd love to see it adapted to the screen some day!
This was my first time reading a book by this author, however, I just purchased their other books and can't wait to read those!

I almost gave up on this book a few times, but I read on and on to the very end. There was so much angst and hand wringing, I just wanted to slap Rachel. And so many times I thought "if only they'd talk to each other like reasonable adults." But no. Despite years of secrets, things dramatically come to the surface in one insane weekend. It was more soap opera than thriller.

The Guilt Trip by Sandie Jones is filled with characters who all have secrets. The book kept my interest from beginning to end, but the ending was weird. Jack, Rachel, Noah, and Paige are all meeting Ali at the airport to travel to Portugal for Ali's wedding. Ali is marrying Jack's younger brother, Will in three days. Ali has a personality that is a bit 'over-the-top' with drama. She focuses her attention on Rachel's husband Jack.
Rachel and Paige are best friends and Paige has very little patience with Ali's attention-seeking way of dressing and acting in public. Rachel wants to keep peace among them all during the stressful trip and festivities. They are all staying together in a beautiful beach home, and this causes a bit of conflict and suspicion among the friends during the three days. There is a repetitive theme of everyone having a secret, and two people in the group are carrying on a secret love affair. Rachel is constantly doubting the decisions she made twenty years ago when she chose Jack over joining Noah on a trip to Vietnam. Suspicions and deceit simmer among the three couples and then on the wedding day for Ali and Will, a terrible thing happens at the reception!

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.

Four friends take a trip to attend a wedding. A simple trip turns into a disaster as everyone's secrets get revealed. The Guilt Trip is a quick read about betrayal and secrets among friends and family. It is an enjoyable, yet predictable story. Rachel and Jack lived a good life as husband and wife for 20 plus years but for some reason this trip puts doubt in Rachel's mind about their relationship and about her feelings towards her best friend Noah. It seems a bit contrived that this trip sets off a whole avalanche of problems when nothing has happened the previous 20 years. The ending was a little disappointing as well. It is an entertaining book and I could see it as a movie but I wouldn't consider it thrilling or intense. It's a little mediocre for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the book. The opinions are my own.
