This book was so good! It pulled me in from the very first page and had me hooked until it was over. The ending was completely shocking to me. I had no idea what was going to happen until the very last second. This is the second book in the series but you can definitely read it as a stand alone.

Excellent plot with great twists and characters. I didn't realize this was part of a series but I don't feel the first book is needed to enjoy this one. It works as a standalone.

I loved this one even more than the first! A classic detective story mixed with a little humor and love. You don’t have to read the first one to understand it, but it certainly does help.

The plot got me from first go . The author had me thinking one thing and then totally going in a different direction. I love when a book has you thinking about it all the time

This is the second book in the series featuring Detective Kimberley King. I hadn’t read the first one but this was fine as a stand-alone. Kim receives a telephone call to say that Piper, a ten year old girl, has gone missing. She didn’t return to her grandparents house after a sleepover at her best friend Miley’s house. All the team are upset by this, especially Sheriff Sam Walker as he lost his wife and young son in a tragic accident. They have no forensic clues and find this a complex and frustrating case. Piper’s body is discovered and then to their shock Miley disappears. They realise then that they have a race against time on their hands before Miley suffers the same fate as Piper. Who would murder Piper and then kidnap her best friend? Is there a connection between the kidnapping and the summer camp where the girls had met? This is an addictive, tense and gripping thriller, with so many suspects and plenty of twists and turns. An enthralling read and I look forward to the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is the second book in the Detective Kimberly King series and I really enjoyed the first one, Dead Woman Crossing. In Last Day Alive we find Kimberly a year later settling into her life in the small town with her daughter and mother. Life and work has been relatively quiet until the chilling casing of a missing girl sends the entire police department and town into a spiral searching for a monster.
Last Day Alive has a perfect blend of being thrilling, capturing my attention with the mystery and further developing the characters. Once I started I couldn’t put it down and was surprised by all of the twists and turns and definitely had my detective hat on until the very end trying to figure out just who did it, and why.
J.R Adler is quickly becoming an auto buy author for me and I really look forward to the next book in the series!

A missing child trope was my favorite, and that clicked the book for me. It had a kickass cop so that too worked for me. The pace was faster and the thrill in the plotline kept me going right till the end. The suspense built up with every page as the list of suspects grew. The author added a few twists, and the ending was unexpected. A fun thriller this was.

📖BOOK REVIEW📖
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

#LastDayAlive @jradlerauthor

So this is the second instalment of the #detectivekimberleyking series and I must say I’m really enjoying them.

They are quick, easy, no nonsense reads that do exactly what they promise. They have a good story, a plot that keeps you guessing, red herrings and clues dotted throughout, great characters and complete with an concluded ending. I also like the more domestic storyline that also started to emerge during this one, it just adds a little more to the books, making them feel more like a series.

So if I was going to be critical, I would say there are no great surprises here, BUT a big old complex read isn’t always what’s needed and for me this was a perfect escapist read for the summer sunshine ☀️

With thanks to author #jradler, #netgalley and #bookouture for allowing us to read this one!
(Sorry it’s a little late!)

This ones out now! 👏

Last Day Alive was a gripping, tense new installment to the Det. Kimberley King series. While I've read similar plots before & felt familiar with the way the story was heading, the characters set this book apart. I loved the tension between King & Walker. With the introduction of a new potential love interest for Kimberley I can't help but wonder where this story will go. I love that Det King makes well-balanced decisions that dont feel extremely emotional or sappy, neither does she give in to emotional blackmail & play an emotional victim- which is something of a recurring theme in many books & I absolutely hate! I sincerely hope Kimberley gets a chance to finally solve the case that haunts her & lay her demons to rest. The characters were great. The plot was good too but I felt a lack of closure at the end because I didn't know if the perpetrator was sentenced or punished. That one bit added in would have been great. I also was missing the creepy flashback memories Kimberley has so frequently in the first book. Knowing that there is a criminal there who has in in for Kimberley made the first book so damn exciting. This book somehow lacked that element of tease. Otherwise I liked this book a lot & look forward to a thrilling series.

Thank you, NetGalley, Bookouture & J.R. Adler for an arc!

I thought this was the first book I’d read from this author but then I discovered she also wrote The Perfect Marriage which I enjoyed. As usual, I read the second book in a series first but I will be going back to read the first one asap.

I really enjoyed this book and it has some great characters. I loved Kimberley and the chemistry and tension between her and Sam added some lightness to the hunt for a child killer. The book flows perfectly and I was hooked. I had no idea who the bad guy was and was kept guessing until the explosive and dramatic ending. I hope we get to see more from this duo.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I didn't know how Jeneva could do better than the first book, but she did it! This was a wild ride start to finish and her writing has gotten so much stronger. I loved the ending and am so excited to see what happens in book 3!

My Review:

Loved, loved, loved this book. This was my first book by this author and I loved every minute of it. It was a shorter book which made this a fast and easy read. It was part of a series but could definitely be read as a stand alone. I became aware of this author because of another book she wrote under a different name of Jeneva Rose. There was a controversy over that book with her marketing strategy of using Tik Tok to promote the book. People were believing that the book was real and she was defending her husband after killing his mistress. Jeneva Rose got a lot of attention from it and that book became a hit. I can’t wait to read that one by her as well.

Ok more on this book. What didn’t I love about this book is the real question. I loved every character in this book but I especially loved Kimberly and Sam the most. They had such great chemistry together and I was rooting for them the whole entire book. I just knew they would solve the case and save the day. What really caught my eye when I picked up this book was the blurb. I read it and knew right away I had to read this book. Who doesn’t love a good mystery and this book had it all. On to that shocking of a twist ending. This author really has a warped mind to come up with that. Boy was I floored on who done it and why but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The twisty endings are the reason why I read these books. I love being shocked to the core and this book sure did that. Kudos to this author for writing such an amazing book.

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Reading a book by J.R Adler is like sipping a fine wine. Sit back, relax and enjoy every glorious word. There are very few series that I enjoy (other than in the romance genre) and Adler’s Detective Deputy King series is on the top of my list. I know this is only book 2 but I became a huge fan after reading Dead Woman Crossing, the first book in the series. I am definitely hoping and praying this will be a very, very long series because I just can’t get enough of Chief deputy Kimberly King.

I know when I read a book by Adler I will easily get sucked right in. It happened with the first in the series and again with this newest release. Adler has such a way with words that easily draws you in and doesn;t let go until you get to the very last page. Then, you will wish there was another book in the series you could read next. Grrr! I hate waiting!

Kimbery King is definitely a force to be reckoned with. She is passionate about her job and takes her career seriously. Originally a detective in NYC, she moved to Dead Woman Crossing because of an old case that has not been resolved. Her mother, Nicole, is in the small little town as well, but their relationship is rocky at best. She loves her mother but may not necessarily always agree with her choices. Kimberly is also a devoted mother to her two year old daughter, Jessica and would do anything to keep her daughter safe.

I really love the dynamic between her and Sam, her boss. The sparks between the two are off the charts and I am desperately waiting for them to get together! Gah! It NEEDS to happen!

Adler throws a lot of red herrings in regards to the perpetrator and with numerous leads, I kept going back and forth on who might be behind it all. I also do love that we get to see in the mind of the perpetrator which in itself was extremely creepy.

Great book, great story, great series and always fantastic storytelling. Adler has a real winner with Last Seen Alive. Another five star read for me!

Chief Deputy Kimberley King has to find a ten year old girl, Piper. It is not an easy job, but she is good at what she is doing. Thank you Netgalley for this book.

Last day alive is the 2nd book in JR Adeler’s detective Kimberly king series. Book 1 was good but missing a little something for me. Book 2 totally ramps it up a notch! Maybe it’s because I feel we’ve got to know Kimberly better and I do always enjoy a book better when that connection is there. This was definitely an action packed story line. 10 year old Piper goes out for a cycle on her bike and doesn’t return. Her body is later found. A short time later her friend also disappears. Chief deputy King and her Sheriff Sam are determined to find her before it’s too late. This one kept me guessing right up til the end so definitely a bit of a ‘oh just one more chapter’ kinda book! There’s some very likeable characters in this series -especially Barb! - and I look forward to reading more about what’s to come for Kimberly!

TRIGGER WARNING: this book contains child murder
A 10 year old goes missing and after a frantic search her murdered body is discovered. A short time later, her best friend disappears too. Chief Deputy Kimberley King is determined to locate the missing girl and solve the murder before any other child is harmed...
Last Day Alive is the second book by J.R. Adler to feature Kimberley King and her team. There are references to events and outcomes from the first book so I would advise reading the series in order.
Things have been quiet for the police in Dead Woman Crossing (seriously, who would live in a place with that name?!) and it has been a year since the murders of the last book. Kimberley is called to investigate a missing girl and at first it is hoped that the matter may be a custody battle. But then a body is discovered and a murder case is launched.
The majority of the book is from the third person perspective of the police team but some chapters show the killer's viewpoint. This serves to give us some insights into their mindset as well as make the danger to the girls more obvious.
In the midst of the investigation are personal issues for Kimberley. She has had a falling out with her mother and there is the potential for a love triangle. The gently simmering romance possibilities add a softer touch to the novel.
Last Day Alive is a tense and dramatic police procedural novel and I enjoyed it very much which seems odd to say about a despicably dark crime!

Last Day Alive by J.R.Adler is the 2nd book in the Detective Kimberley King series, and my first book by this author. I enjoyed this book so much I immediately read the first book in the series, Dead Women Crossing, after finishing Last Day Alive. Detective Kimberley King and her team are looking for a 10 year girl who rode her bike to her friends house to spend the night, but never made it. Wow this book grabbed me from the very first page, and kept me going. This book has more twists and turns, that kept me reading page after page. Just when I thought I was on the right track, I realize I wasn't. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. If you love mysteries like I do, than I recommend this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
