I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. Baked good pictures are amazing. There is a bit of both sweet and savory. I love the different breads that were included in this book. I have never made scones myself but I saw the recipe and now I want to try to make it. I loved some of the names of the recipes. For example Breakfast in Rome. All the reading about baking made me think of my mother and all the times I would sit at the table and watch her bake when I was a child.

Well this baking cookbook was very well written and was not a snoozefest like I usually find baking cookbooks. Obviously there are the basic recipes like Wheat Bread and Chocolate Chip Cookies, but there are also inventive recipes such as Miso Maple Loaf, Smores Ice-cream Cake, and Lamingtons (an inventive cake cube covered in chocolate and coconut). All of these recipes are delightfully written and have gorgeous pictures to go with them. The author also provides a section in the book that covers lots of the basics for recipes such as making your own Confectioner's Sugar Icing (that's a recipe I can see me using a lot). Surprisingly, the author also included some savory recipes. I know some people don't like when a cookbook branches out from what it's title says, but I think a cookbook branching out is the best. I'll never complain of getting more recipes than expected in a cookbook and this is a thick cookbook. I highly recommend this cookbook for those who like the idea of buying one cookbook for baking and never needing to buy another one. Happy baking!

I received a free e-version of this book in exchange for a honest review through NetGalley.

This amazing book contains so many different recipes, both basic & unique, sweet & savory - Pecan Cranberry Loaf, Tomato Tart, Breakfast in Rome Lemon Cake, Spiced Sour Cream Bundt Cake and Lisbon Chocolate cake are just few of the recipes that I can't wait to try!

First of all, I must mention the BEAUTIFUL pictures in this book, that make you wanna bake every single recipe!
In addition, I liked the fact that the recipes aren't too complicated and most of them include basic ingredients, so you can simply choose your desire recipe and start baking right away!

If you love to bake, want to try to bake or are a cookbook collector, this book is a must. Let's start with the fact that this book is just visually stunning, This book is filled with bright and beautiful photos that will have your fingers twitching to get into the kitchen to satisfy the intense cravings that you are going to be bombarded with. I can't say that every recipe has a pictured but I will say that most do. I loved that this book keeps the instructions and ingredient list simple. I really feel that even a novice baker will have no issues with following and understanding the recipes. The ingredients used are mainly what I would classify as standard staples and if you do come across something you don't have, you should be able to find it just about anywhere. An excellent variety of recipes is included that offer the basics (white bread, chocolate chip cookies and biscuits) to the more unique (Swedish Fika Cake and Glenorchy Flapjacks) add in a solid selection of some savory delights and some helpful info and you have a winning combination that easily earns a spot on your shelf. A perfect treat for yourself or a great gift idea.

Lovely cookbook for the everyday baker with a little experience. I loved that there were practical everyday recipes as well as fancier recipes for special occasions. The pictures are gorgeous and those cookies, the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies Paris style soooo fancy. Definitely would recommend adding to any collection.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Mariner Books for gifting me a digital ARC of this gorgeous cookbook, Baking with Dorie, by Dorie Greenspan - 5 stars!

What a gorgeous book - every recipe includes a fabulous picture by Mark Weinberg that will have your mouth watering just glancing through the pages. Along with helpful hints on proper technique, many of the recipes include tips for storing extras (wait - with these recipes, there would be extras?) and ways of changing things up. I started bookmarking recipes I wanted to try until it became almost all the recipes so I gave up that idea. There is also a savory section included along with the breads, pastries, cakes, cookies and pies. While my own personal preference would be to include nutrition info on recipes, this is a must have cookbook for your kitchen!

Thirty is a lot. Master baker Dorie Greenspan has written thirty cookbooks, including this one, so she knows a little about baking, writing recipes, and creating beautiful and delicious baked creations. With Baking with Dorie, she has created sweet and savory baked goods for special occasions or for everyday.

Maybe it’s all those years of baking experience that makes this cookbook so special. There are recipes that she’s discovered from traveling to different parts of the world, like the Breakfast-in-Rome Lemon Cake, the Swedish Fika Cake, the Glenorchy Flapjacks (an oat cookie from New Zealand), or the gorgeous Lisbon Chocolate Cake that’s featured on the cover.

But she also has a lot of recipes that focus on those flavors that we grew up with here in America and love. She spends a lot of time in the cookie chapter, for example, talking about everyone’s favorite, those chocolate chippers. She starts with the recipe for her Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies and then goes on to offer up five other options, like the One Big Break-Apart Chipper or Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies Paris Style or her World Peace Cookies 2.0.

These pockets of favorite recipe clusters are her “Sweethearts,” and these include her chippers, brioche breads (which includes Brioche Sticky Buns and Chocolate Babka), her celebration cakes (Devil’s Food Party Cake, Lemon Meringue Layer Cake, or her Double-Decker Salted Caramel Cake, for example), or apple pies and tarts (which includes a Mulled Butter Apple Pie, Apple Galette, Apple Pandowdy, and the classic Tarte Tatin).

And all of her experience in baking translates to recipes that can be tackled by beginners but with flavors that are sophisticated and so tantalizing that no one would believe you hadn’t taken some classes on pastry. You can start with a recipe like the Whip-it-up-Quick Cornbread or the Park Avenue Brownies (her husband named them that because they’re “thin and rich”), then move on to the French Riviera Lemon Tart (which Dorie calls a “magic trick” for being so easy yet so decadent) or the Vegetable Ribbon Tart, and then try out a Cinnamon Raisin Bread or a Jelly Roll Cake or the Gouda Gougeres or the Clam Chowder Pie.

Throughout, she offers up ideas for playing around with the recipes, whether it’s to add unusual ingredients or to change her updated recipe to the original. She gives tips for using a store-bought pie crust for the pies, for example, or how to make things ahead and freeze them, saving you time on the day of the bake. And—I love this—she warns you if a recipe takes a long time or requires hours in the fridge to set, so you’ll know that right off.

I’ve been a big fan of Dorie Greenspan for many years, but the year I used Dorie’s Cookies for almost all my Christmas cookies, she stole my heart forever. I still have one aunt who never asks for anything from me except for batches of her Lemon Sugar Cookies. Dorie just understands how to make flavors sing with recipes that should be complicated but really aren’t. Baking with Dorie is filled with recipes just like that. She has taken out all the unnecessary steps and explained her thought process in a way that builds a baker’s confidence, connection to the ingredients, and creativity. The simplicity of her recipes make this a perfect cookbook for beginners, but her flavorful creations make it ideal for all sweet and savory chefs of any level.

Egalleys for Baking with Dorie were provided by Mariner Books through NetGalley, with many thanks.

The comprehensive and quintessential Dorie Greenspan baking book.

I love this book. Why? The recipes are amazing, that's why. Well thought out, with handy options and alternatives suggested. I want to make everything in this book. I especially loved the Lemon Meringue Layer Cake.

Dorie makes baking accessible and lays out the steps in an easy and natural progression. You feel like you are baking with a friend.
I have almost all of Dorie's books and this one just might be my favorite.
I highly recommend Baking with Dorie.

I am a new follower of Dorie Greenspan, although I’ve had her recipe for World Peace Cookies for years. Recently I read a story about her Paris Kitchen and began reading her blog. I was captivated. As for her newest cookbook, Baking With Dorie: Sweet, Salty and Simple, it is a dream. The photography is wonderful. The recipes are wide-ranging and simple. I bookmarked a bunch for future projects. The recipe I tried was the Everything Cake—I made the Boozy version with Grand Marnier. It was quick—no mixer involved, looked beautiful when done, was moist and had a wonderful texture. (Next time I’ll amp up the volume on the booze, for my taste).
I love that Greenspan gives multiple variations for many of the recipes, which allows a baker to expand beyond the basic recipe. This is the sign of a good cook and will be beneficial to those less experienced. Several of the variations for my cake sounded wonderful—but I had to go with what was in the pantry.
I appreciate the opportunity to review this book prior to publication. My thanks to NetGalley, Mariner Books and Dorie Greenspan for the ARC. I’ve pre-ordered the hardcopy for myself and as a gift for several friends.

I don't think Dorie Greenspan is perhaps capable of writing a bad cookbook. I've cooked from three of her previous books and have never been disappointed and this installment is no different. The brioche sticky buns took forever but completely and totally worth every second. I don't know how to describe the cheese puffers but I baked them two days in a row. I decided to do the potato flake biscuits just to use up some of the powdered potato in my cupboard and despite my skepticism they came out amazing and I will be making them again.

Clearly I do not need to recommend Dorie Greenspan to the wider cookbook reading community. And yet, there are always folks who do not know about an author whom I think everyone knows about so here goes. I was first introduced to Dorie Greenspan when I was running a library Cookbook Book Club for 3 years. My request for those interested to give me suggestions of titles or authors brought "Around My French Table" to my attention. I'd have to dig into my Google Docs to see what I made for that meeting but whenever I see a new Dorie Greenspan cookbook, I always order it, if possible, for my library's collection. She has received raves from the late great Julia Child and really what more could you ask for!

Thank you to the author, Mariner Books and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is another solid entry into the author's body of work - I loved the diversity of the recipes for cakes, pastries, cookies, breads and more, as well as the suggestions for varying the recipe by switching out or adding ingredients. The recipes are clear and concise, with instructions that will inspire confidence even if you are not an experienced baker, and the accompanying photographs are as beautiful as you would expect. .But! These recipes are not per se healthy or simple, nor are they inexpensive. The author assumes that the reader will have the resources to buy the best ingredients possible, and the recipes are very heavy on white flour, butter and sugar. So overall a wonderful book for traditional baking, but not necessarily suited for those with dietary restrictions.

This is my favorite Dorie Greenspan cookbook. So many wonderful recipes. Twist Bread, Scones such as Buttermilk and Scones Pudding. Muffins, breads too. Cakes such as Swirled Spiced Sour Cream Bundt Cake, Chunky Lemon Cornmeal Cake, Fika Swedish Cake and S’mores Ice Cream Cake. In cookies there is One Big Break Apart Chipper, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies Paris Style and Oatmeal Cookies with Nuts and Chocolate. Then there are Eclairs and Cream Puffs. A section with Pies, Tarts, Cobblers, and Crusts with Lick-the-Pot Chocolate Pudding Pie, Salty Side Up, Free Style Mushroom, Herb and Ricotta Tart, and Spinach-Mozzarella Pie with Parm Crumble. Basics, Must Knows and Fillips-Crusts, Doughs, Pastry Creams, Streusels and ice creams. I love this cookbook and can’t wait to have it in my library.

Food - desserts and treats no less - and it's DORIE! Of course this book is wonderful. The recipes are doable and friendly, even for the novice home baker (like me). The photos are always so teasing and tempting. I have all Dorie Greenspan's books and this one, in hard copy, I anticipate, will have dog-eared corners, pages smudged with a spice or buttered fingerprint. Lovely book. Adds challenge but not undoable for those of us that want to step up our baking game or just want a solid, delicious, comfortable recipe to make. Thank you Dorie.

Thanks to HMH and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this title.

Everything in this book looks amazing. EVERYTHING. And because it's Dorie, I trust that it's going to work, and there's going to be the detail I need in a recipe to know it's going to come out perfect the first time. This is such a great collection of recipes, and everything you want in an all-purpose baking book is here - sweet and savory, standbys and new favorites.

I was really looking forward to this but I can't give stars if I can't read it. Would not have clicked if I'd known it isn't available on kindle.

I enjoyed some of Dorie Greenspan’s latest baking book “Baking with Dorie”. There are several apple recipes I am very excited to try, especially the ones that don’t include cinnamon because *GASP* my partner hates my beloved autumnal spice. However, this book could have been half the length. It took effort to find the recipes in her storytelling which I found off putting in the end. I didn’t need her biography when all I wanted was a scone recipe. She adds in extra steps that don’t need to be there, and it feels like they were added for a page count instead of quality recipe writing. I will be trying some of her recipes but this one will stay in my digital library instead of my well loved, real life cookbooks I use in my kitchen.
