'Baking with Dorie' is a spectacular offering in an ocean of baking greatness. This stunningly photographed guide covers everything from an array of mouthwatering breakfast recipes, to delectable little pastries and tantalizing savory salty side up bites. Many times when I first open a new cookbook, I spend a good amount of time reading it from cover to cover to decide which recipe I want to experiment with first. Yet, with Dorie's new cookbook I couldn't even get through the first chapter before I felt the urge to jump up and start making the Blueberry Biscuits on page 49. Only someone who loves baking could create such a cookbook and Dorie's expertise and meticulous instructions can easily make a baker out of even the most unconfident person in the kitchen. I envision many hours spent in the kitchen this year because of this book, covered in a dust of flour and checking of each recipe from 'Baking with Dorie' one at a time.

One of the recipes in this cookbook is called Lick-The-Pot Chocolate Pudding Pie, and this whole book literally makes me want to lick my screen where I'm flipping through it. There are so many delicious recipes in this paired with gorgeous photos, and the recipes really vary in terms of difficulty but there are a ton of basics in there to add to your inventory. I especially love when alternatives are given at the end, like swapping out fruits or using different chocolates to switch things up in a certain recipe and making it taste totally different. Overall, it's a great book showing how baking isn't just desserts — it can have a place in every meal (and with snacks)! Definitely bookmarked a few recipes to try in the future.

This cookbook has recipes that are both sweet and savory and the level of effort varies! There are some recipes that are simple, low effort and some more complicated high effort, which I like because some days I just want something easy but others I feel motivated to try a complicated tart or bread!

I also like that Dorie gives variations on a lot of the recipes for things like muffins and scones. For example, there’s a basic recipe for blueberry muffins but also shows you how to make a lemon poppy seed muffin too.

My favorite part was that Dorie has measurements in both US (imperial) and also in metrics because it’s so much easier for me to have both!! I use imperial for measuring most things like sugar or vanilla but I need grams and milliliters for when I buy the items in the shop here in the Netherlands!

It’s also a good cookbook for basic recipes to learn from scratch like crusts and pastry dough. Plus the start of each section gives basic tips for the main recipes (ie cakes or breads) which was very helpful!

The one thing I didn’t always like was some instructions weren’t always clear. For ex: “butter a large bowl. Stir milk, oil, and water in a bowl” like is it the same buttered bowl or a different bowl? I need cookbooks that’s specify if the next step (for example) requires a different bowl or the same. I had to skim/read through the instructions entirely, several times before figuring it out. So it could’ve been more clear but it was only 1 or 2 recipes where I noticed this.

I’d recommend this if you’re looking for a cookbook with a balance of both sweet vs savory, and simple vs complex! Baking with Dorie is also great for my non-US based people who need metric measurements.

A fabulous all-around baking book from a master baker - full of beautiful photos that make you want to get baking. The recipes are so unique and different, full of ones I've never heard of but are delicious- even the chocolate chip cookies seem to have a unique twist. I love all the detailed instructions and notes that make you feel confident you could recreate them. This book has a full mix of all types of baking recipes, including a large number of savory ones. Highly recommend!

This cookbook is awesome! Dorie takes normal baking, and she elevates to a higher level. She takes basic recipes, and uses them over and over with different combinations of other ingredients to make delectable desserts. All of the recipes are simple, easy to follow, and are beginner friendly. All of the ingredients are easy to find, and most are commonly found in every day pantries. The introduction has very basic instructions on what types of materials and ingredients she uses, and how to use them. Someone with no baking experience at all could use this book to bake their first treat. I highly recommend this book for everyone's kitchen cookbook collection for easy reference!

This is a must-have for anyone who loves to bake, and the recipes are kind to beginners, yet sophisticated enough for experienced bakers who are looking for something new and interesting. Dorie Greenspan is a rock star, and her beautiful recipes will make you want to run to the grocery store to get some ingredients and start baking a fun new treat for your friends or your family.

Thank you For the ARC to read and review.

I admit I’m am not much of a baker. Looks like from many of the reviews so far that Ms Greenspan has a great following. I don’t think a beginner baker like me could use this book to learn. I wish there were more clear photographs of her process.

The recipes all sound delicious.

Another Dorie Greenspan gem! The recipes are accompanied by beautiful images. While the recipes may appear difficult at first glance ( they are long) , Dorie clearly explains each step, and the end result is definitely worth the effort! Dorie Greenspan has released yet another fantastic cookbook for home cooks and bakers to add to their collections!

Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy of this book!!!!
This baking book is nearly PERFECT. I feel like I can do this--Dorie gives us the right amount of information on why one should do this thing properly, but also gives you some room to do it a little easier and tells you it will still be delicious. Loved that! I am asking for my own copy of this for my birthday or Christmas and already have planned out things to make from it! Loved!

When it comes to baking, you can’t go wrong with a Dorie Greenspan book in your kitchen. I have two of her other cookbooks and they are my go to guides to making cookies and breakfast treats. “Baking with Dorie: Sweet, Salty & Simple” is a great addition to the collection. The breakfast treats are so tempting, and I adore her cookie recipes taking on Parisian influences and elevating the basics to something special. There is also an entire chapter on Must-Knows with recipes for fillings, doughs, and sauces. A must have for every baker of any level. There is something for everyone in this book.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital ARC. I look forward to buying the hardcover for my kitchen this fall.

I received Baking with Dorie as part of a NetGalley giveaway.

In Baking with Dorie, Dorie Greenspan offers an array of desserts from cookie and pastries to pies and cakes. For a James Beard Award winner, you might expect the recipes to be high-concept, but for the most part they're very accessible for the intermediate chef. There's a nice range of options, from lighter summer fare to heavier, richer options for the colder months. The presentation is lovely--each photograph is more enticing than the next--and will appeal to anyone looking to level up their baking skills at any time of year.

Baking with Dorie passes the two tests for a baking book to be both useful and exciting:
1. You either have the ingredients or can easily get the ingredients
2. If you follow the directions, you can produce a baked good that both tastes and looks good

Thanks to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for this ARC. Yes, I let out a big whoop when I received notice that I was given an ARC copy of this book! If you like to bake you have to love anything by Dories Greenspan. I own all of her books and can't wait to get the hardcopy of this one...digital cookbooks just don't do it for me. The illustrations are excellent, as is the writing and recipes, as they always are. I already have a list of recipes I want to try out, hot weather be damned, the oven is going on! Only caveat to this copy is that the links to the corresponding pages are not filled in yet, but I can live with that. I get some extra time to preview this great book!!

Dorie Greenspan is a legend for a reason - this book is a great reminder of why. This is her 14th book and a celebration of 30 years of writing cookbooks - wow! You would think that would mean that the content would be repetitive but Dorie continues to surprise and delight. This book is all about simple, accessible, and foolproof recipes for home bakers of every level. Right off the bat, the cover boasting "sweet, salty, & simple" recipes piques my interest - salty + baking is something I aways want more of and Dorie delivers. The sections are broken up as follows: Breakfast, Cake, Cookies, Two Perfect Little Pastries (Cream Puffs and Meringues), Pies Tarts Cobblers and Crisps, Salty Side Up, and Basics Must-Knows and Fillips. Each one contains recipes that are classics, new takes on classics, and a little bit surprising - the perfect balance! The experience and insight within these pages is invaluable - Dorie has seen it all and she has an answer for you. This book is perfect for new bakers, people who are dipping their toe into baking, or people who already love to bake. There is truly something for everyone!

The photography is stunning and every photo tempts me into adding the recipe to my to bake list. As with any book, I wish there were photos for every recipe, but this book does a great job of providing a photo for every recipe that is off the beaten path.

Some standout recipes include: Cheese-Swirl Babka Buns, S'Mores Ice Cream Cake (!!), Devil's Thumbprints, Rugelach with Four Fillings (i'm personally interested in experimenting with this), Park Avenue Brownies, Mulled-Butter Apple Pie, Vegetable Ribbon Tart, and Tomato Tart.

This book is a necessary addition to any cookbook library!
