Dorie Greenspan has written multiple award winning cookbooks and her latest “ Baking with Dorie” hits all the notes I look for in a brilliant cookbook: luscious photos, well written recipes that include exacting bakers notes, and an index. There are more than two dozen recipes that I wanted to start baking immediately. Organized by Breakfast; Cake; Cookies; Two Perfect Little Pastries ( cream puffs & meringues);Pies, Tarts, Cobblers, & Crisps; Salty Side Up ( Satisfying Suppers, Sides, & More); and Basics, Must-Knows and Fillips.
The genius of Dorie is her ability to explain things and offer “Plan Ahead” tips so that beginners will feel confident, and her “Playing Around” tips will inspire experienced bakers to expand their creativity in the kitchen.
There are recipes within for Ice Creams, Dessert Sauces, (Caramel Applesauce!!) and many versatile crusts for tarts and pies.
With more than 150 recipes presented, bakers are sure to find many recipes to try. The Double Decker Caramel Cake, and S’mores Ice Cream Cake with chocolate sauce, peanuts, and ( yaasss) toasted marshmallows are calling my name.
Highly recommended for all bakers.

I love a good cookbook and read them like novels. After reading through this one I found that I must own it. There is so much information in this book. There are recipes for things I already make, but she has little notes so you can change it up and have some fun. My Mom’s birthday is coming and I know just what to get her. If you like to bake this book is a must have!

This is an excellent cookbook for those who really want to bake well. It's filled with beautiful photos and a really diverse bunch of recipes for cakes, pastries, cookies, breads, etc. This is for folks who want to bake the best possible versions of things, not the cheapest, healthiest or simplest. It does not provide nutritional information. It also is not going to work well for people who don't eat the traditional American/British diets as it is very heavy on white flour, butter, sugar, etc. For those who are old school and want to learn some wonderful new recipes, it will be a wonderful resource.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

I think Doris Greenspan is amazing and her cookbooks are my go to for baking. This is my very first disappointment. I did not feel as if there was much innovation and felt I had seen it all before. Also, everything is brown. Brown, brown, brown. Get a little more color in there to excite my senses. I want to get excited about all things Dodie and delicious!

Wow, before this book I didn't know who Dorie Greenspan is, but man am I glad I found this beautiful Baking Collection. This is a great Baking book if you are serious about baking. Be prepared to sift, and measure carefully. A truly stunning recipe book I cannot wait to try every recipe in.

Nicely done with a amazing design and stunningly delicious recipes that were so well-written. All of the recipes simple and amazing. They were easy to follow and fun to do. This book has a lot to offer to people. 4.5/5 stars from me.

Baking with Dorie is another winning cookbook from National Treasure Dorie Greenspan! Each recipe includes detailed instructions that give even novice bakers the information and tools they need to produce Dorie-worthy results. The recipes are paired with gorgeous, mouthwatering photos and I can't wait to cook my way through the entire book.

Dorie is known for creating accessible recipes that produce sweets, desserts, and even savory dishes that are full of flavor. Cheers to Dorie and 30 years of "cookbookery." I only hope that there will be many, many more.

Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

My first introduction to Dorie Greenspan was through her cookbook, Around My French Table. It’s a wonderful cookbook, full of beautiful pictures and amazing recipes, which are all written so well. It is a friendly guide that takes the intimidation out of venturing into French cuisine. Greenspan is the winner of five James Beard and two IACP awards, and this is her fourteenth cookbook. She continues her tradition of making recipes easy to understand and easy to make with easy to find ingredients. Part of Dorie’s style is to introduce each recipe. There are delightful tales of where and when she discovered the recipe, and how she has given it her own spin. She also ends each basic recipe with a twist, encouraging you to be playful with the recipe and try new things. Looking for the perfect hostess gift? Look no more!

Here are some of the delectable gems awaiting you:

Breakfast Stuff
In addition to a variety of breads, there are English muffins, brioche, brioche sticky buns, babka (chocolate, and cheese-swirl), potato biscuits, cottage cheese biscuits, blueberry biscuits that border on cake, scones, scone pudding, muffins and loaves.

Cakes
What an endless list of scrumptious cakes! Treat yourself to Party Cakes like Devil’s Food, banana, lemon meringue layer cake, salted caramel; curd, cream and berry; coconut-milk-chocolate marble cake; apricot and pistachio olive oil cake; Swedish fika cake; an Everything Cake with plentiful variations; jelly rolls and cheesecakes.

Cookies
Make it a sweet coffee or tea break with delicious homemade cookies. Choose from chocolate chip with a few variations, including maple and bacon and rye-Cranberry; shortbread, biscuits Rose, which are like crunchy ladyfingers, crackly and hardly sweet; rugelach; financiers; (cake-like cookies); hermits; biscotti and brownies.
Indulge in pies, tarts, cobblers and crisps with mulled butter apple; galette; apple pandowdy; and pear, berry, rhubarb and custard options.

Also included is baking Salty Side Up. There are savory indulgences like little baked bleu cheese bites; goat cheese-black pepper quick bread; clam chowder pie (what is that?); fig and goat cheese tart; or a mushroom, herb and ricotta tart.

I will leave you with my must-try picks:

Breakfast in Rome Lemon Cake
Crumb-topped Ricotta Cofee Cake
Mocha Walnut Torte
Lamingtons (squares of cake covered in chocolate and coated in coconut)
Lisbon Chocolate Cake , with 3 distinct layers that is not difficult
Madeleines made with tea and honey
French Riveriera Lemon Tart

I think this book has a LOT to offer. There are so many recipes I can't wait to try, and I've bookmarked all of them! I think the layout is phenomenal, and the idea of the sweetheart recipes is adorable (sweetheart recipes are her absolute favorites of each section!).

These recipes are for people who really enjoy the process of baking, who are willing to have a ton of ingredients on hand, and who thoroughly appreciate how much love and care can be put into a recipe. I think every single one of Dorie's recipes speaks to this, and that's what makes this book so special.

The photos are warm and feel like you're stepping into Dorie's kitchen with her. There's no ego behind any of this book, and that is the most delightful thing about it.

I really enjoyed this cookbook. The photography is beautiful and Greenspan is a good writer. Her recipes read long, but that's because she really takes the time to talK the reader through each step. She explains how things should look each step of the way, and how to tell if you've run into a problem. She describes the processes very thoroughly, and gives a good idea of the time frame needed to complete the steps. This is very helpful. The recipes are varied, some fairly traditional and some different and unusual. The main criticism I have is that the cover claims the recipes are "simple." This, I believe, is somewhat misleading. There may be some recipes in here suited for beginning bakers, perhaps... but the vast bulk of them are better for experienced bakers looking to stretch their skills.

Included is a chapter on breakfast baking, which has recipes for breads and muffins as well as treats like Crumb-topped Ricotta Coffee Cake. There is also a chapter on savory baked foods, which was one of my favorites. This included things like Asparagus-lemon Quiche, Tomato Tart, and Goat Cheese and Black Pepper Quick Bread. There were also chapters on cakes, pies and cookies, among other things. The cookie chapter was the most disappointing chapter, in my opinion. Many of the recipes seemed overly fussy and not as appealing as the rest of the book. The final chapter included a whole host of helpful recipes for things like crusts, doughs, fillings, sauces and ice creams. This was a great addition.

Overall, a very pleasing, interesting and useful baking book. I would definitely recommend.

This book is packed full of beautiful cakes, biscuits, and other treats which I can't wait to try my hand at!

The imagery is stunning making everything look so delicious and there's a nice balance between recipes and images.

I'll be in the kitchen this weekend working on my skills!

Another Dorie cookbook? Praise be! Here at long last is the Dorie "everyday" baking book that focuses mainly on the simple and familiar, but no less delicious, treats we all know and love. The vast majority of these recipes can be made with ingredients from a well-stocked pantry and standard grocery store. The techniques are simple and straightforward. Yes you need French tart and madeleine pans, because its still Dorie! But there are plenty of options in this book for those who embrace the simple and classic American recipes.

I love seeing in these recipes the evolution of Dorie's life and baking style. She presents us with baked treats from England and beautiful cakes and confections from a trip to Portugal. Of course, there is still the influence of France. Dorie revisits old favorites like her World Peace Cookies but with new flavors! What I most loved about this book versus her past cookbooks is that I was able to choose a recipe right then and there and make it in the couple hours before dinner while doing other things at the same time. This book is practical. You can bake while being distracted.

I made her asparagus and sour cream tart with her easy pate brisee crust. Her technique for pate brisee kept my counters, hands and clothes relatively clean, got the crust in the pan, and eventually the beautiful asparagus tart on the table in time.

My one critique of the cookbook is that the cover -- which I love and think is absolutely gorgeous -- conveys a level of sophistication and richness that I don't think is reflective of the actual cookbook's contents, or its stated goals.

This book was received as an ARC from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

Another classic from Dorie Greenspan! Beautiful photographs accompany the recipes. While the recipes may seem a bit intimidating when looking at the picture, Dorie explains each step well, and the result is worth it! Another wonderful cookbook from Dorie Greenspan for home cooks and bakers to add to their collections!

This is an amazing book, I can’t wait to buy it. Greenspan delivers again. It is mostly classic recipes, and will serve as an excellent reference for both the home cook and professionals. Also includes savory dishes and ice cream recipes. I will be making every one of them!

Beautiful pictures and well-explained recipes. Can't wait to try the Berry Biscuits and the cider-inspired apple pie! the breakfast and breads sections are my favorites in the book, mostly because I don't have as much of a sweet tooth as some in my family.

For anyone who has ever been intimidated by the prospect of baking bread from scratch or tackling pastries, this baking cookbook is an absolute gem. Not only does the author provide clear directions for each recipe, she also provides extensive tips on how to ensure success, such as the best way to measure flour (by weight) and how to measure if you do not have a scale (never scoop your measuring cup directly into the flour bag because the the resulting densely packed cup will not correspond to the actual amount the recipe calls for. The author even provides directions on how to store each of your finished products so that it will taste just as fresh the next day as on the day it was baked. In addition for each recipe she provides suggestions on how to play around with the recipe: adding fruits, nuts, and other fillings.

As for the accompanying photos, they are absolutely beautiful. But for me it is the clarity of the directions and the attention to detail in providing tips for the home baker that makes this baking book a truly must have! A master class in baking that will have you tackling with confidence recipes that you previously thought were well beyond your skill level and doing so with success!
