this was a great sequel, the cover is what drew me in as it was so spooky. It worked perfectly as a young adult book and I enjoyed getting to know the characters.

Ghost Hunters Pirates Curse was a great middle-grade YA book about a teen psychic and his latest job involving a pirates curse. I thought the story was really solid. I enjoyed the psychic stuff and loved hearing about the different sigils and charms involved in the business. The characters were well-written and the setting was perfect. New Orleans during a hurricane is a great setting for a spooky pirates tale. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Ghost Hunters: Pirates' Curse was the second in the series but I read it without reading the first and it was easy to catch on to what I missed. Some of the characters maybe would have been fleshed out more in the first but you can easily follow the story for here. I love the plot and I thought it had enough tension for the age range without being too overwhelming and a lot of good morals about friendship and working as a team. I always love middle grade because they are wild and imaginative with the plot lines without making things too complicated and this one certainly fit the bill.

Ghost Hunters: Pirates’ Curse
by Susan McCauley

This author is really been on my radar lately. I have read a few and loved every one. When I saw this one on NetGalley, I just had to read it! I am thankful they let me. This is my own opinion but I am sure many of you will think the same.

This is book two in her ghost hunting series for middle grade kids but I have enjoyed the stories too and I am far from middle grade. The three friends, one is a psychic, is assigned by his teacher to check on a haunting at a local pub. This may sound strange to us but in this world, but kids are tested for psychic abilities and given a teacher at a young age. Our guy is a late bloomer.

His cousin loves ghost hunting equipment. She has all kinds. Their friend has the muscle and great ideas. They make a good team when they work together. They all go together to this haunted pub. They want to help this ghost cross over. What they find is more than they bargained for. They have no one to call to help them. The more they do, the worst things gets.

It's a great story with a touch of humor, suspense, lots of friendships, courage, with great characters and wonderful plot! Don't forget to read book one first!

I received an advance reader copy of this book through Net Galley from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second volume of McCauley’s Ghost Hunters series. This time around, Alex is in training as an apprentice psychic. In addition to his continued recovery from his broken hip and the loss of his mother, Alex also has to deal with insecurities about his own skills and future as a psychic.

Alex also faces the challenge of not taking his feelings out on his teammates while also finding them areas where they can develop expertise even though they don’t possess his psychic skills. The only thing I can put my finger on that would improve how I feel about this book would be that Alex became obsessed with these challenges, bringing them up in internal dialogue again and again as the book went on.

I gave Pirates’ Curse five stars on Goodreads. In includes all of the elements that I enjoyed in the first book while expanding our knowledge of most characters and adding a few new ones.

Thank you to NetGalley and Celtic Sea Publishing for opening this book back up in promotion for the second!

In this installment, Alex has been apprenticed under Frank while simultaneously learning the basics of being a Psychic. He struggles retaining the information and juggling his responsibilities, missing spending time with his friends and living with is dad. I love the depiction of moody kid, forced to grow up and learning handle his emotions. The infighting with Jason and Hannah seems real, and as he strives for perfection their reactions to him are real to.

When an incoming hurricane and trouble at the hospital leaves Frank too busy to handle a client they've taken on, he leaves Alex to handle it. Calling on his friends to help, Alex puts everything on the line to handle the ghost of a smuggling pirate and the priest who trapped him here.

Another great middle grade, another I will be setting aside for my kids to read one day. The relationships are believable, the pacing is good, and I highly recommend.
