An archeological team is staying at the Indialantic and they are causing all sorts of problems. When the leader of the team is found dead, Liz's reclusive neighbor is accused of the crime. Now Liz has to work with her private detective boyfriend to figure out what really happened before her good friend is arrested.

I am really loving this series set at the Indialantic. I love all of the characters and the setting. I did feel like we didn't get to see as many of the characters that live there as usual. I missed seeing them. I really liked the addition of getting to know Birdman in this book. I really liked him as a character. I was completely surprised by the ending! I did not see that coming at all. I cannot wait to come back to the Indialantic for more of Liz and her family!

The fifth book in the By the Sea Mystery series by Kathleen Bridge is Buried by the Sea. A group of archaeologists is staying at the Indialantic by the Sea while digging for artifacts left by Spanish explorers. One claims to find the discovery of a lifetime only to wind up dead. When the police focus on a reclusive resident, Liz, her boyfriend, and friends set out to prove his innocence. The mystery kept me waffling back and forth on suspects. I always enjoy the setting and quirky characters. This book is a great addition to the series.

Princess Fuzzypants here: While her father is swanning around Europe with his new bride, Liz is holding down the Indiatlantic with her quirky great-aunt, her PI boyfriend Ryan and the best selling 80 year old author of books for young adults, Betty. Liz, Ryan and Betty have proven to be an awesome detective trio whose skills will be needed thanks to a group of archeologists who are staying in the hotel while digging nearby.
They hope to find proof that Ponce de Leon landed on their island first. What Liz finds is the body of the financier who is funding the dig.

He is an unpleasant guy so there is no shortage of candidates for killer, but Liz’s friend, Birdman, is taken in. Liz, Ryan and Betty feel compelled to find the real murderer and what they dig up is a web of deceit. When the air is cleared, and they discover the truth, it is, not only to the current murder but also to a 75 year old mystery. It is all rather elegant as the various pieces and back stories fit together. It would make for a good story even without the lead characters who are well drawn and very likeable. I’ve enjoyed as the series has built story upon story. While this book could be read out of order or a standalone, why not treat yourself and go back to the beginning. The characters have come a long way.

Five purrs and two paws up.

Buried by the Sea is the fifth installment in the A By the Sea Mystery series set in Melbourne Beach, Florida and featuring author Liz Holt and her friends at the Indialantic By the Sea, the resort owned by Amelia Holt, a retired 1960's actress who is also Liz's great Aunt. A group of archaeologists are staying at the hotel supposed to study the area in effort to learn more about the early Spanish Settlers, but really it seems as though they are looking for buried treasure, rumored to be hidden at the old Bennett Estate, the property next door to the Indialantic.

When the lead archaeologist is found deep in a hole and poisoned by a dart, all fingers seem to point towards Birdman, the elderly man who lives on the property. Knowing that her friend is not a killer, Liz sets out with the help of her PI boyfriend Ryan to dig up the truth.

A great setting, a zany cast of characters and a talking Macaw! Oh, the mystery was good too! The perfect way to spend an afternoon and I look forward to my next visit to the Indialantic.

I received an advanced copy of Buried by the Sea from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.

This is another excellent addition and had a lot of fun in reading it.
The plot development is as good as always and the solid mystery, full of twists and turns, kept me guessing.
Highly recommended.

Buried by the Sea is book five in the 'By the Sea Mystery' series written by Kathleen Bridge. I have read the third and fourth instalments, Murder by the Sea and Evil by the Sea, so I was delighted to dive into this one.

In this eccentric tale, novelist Liz Holt is back at the barrier island of Melbourne Beach, Florida, and is working in her family's hotel and emporium, the Indialantic by the Sea. A team of archaeologists is staying at the hotel which is known for hosting events with unusual themes. They are studying the days of the Spanish explorers and the site of their dig is the Bennett property, owned by Bertram “Birdman” Bennett, situated adjacently to the hotel. Liz has noticed that there has been a few problems on the digs such as petty squabbles, scientists arguing, and jealousies emerging, then one of the team is found dead speared by a Hawaiian diving implement.

I adored this novel with its good, fast pacing and the author's writing style was comedic, easy and fun, as ever. Her characters are memorable, especially Great-aunt Amelia with her kooky personality traits, and the supporting characters all played their parts, including Liz's parrots, the garrulous Barnacle Bill and Carmen Miranda.

The descriptive imagery by Kathleen Bridge of the island and the general locale helped to make this a compelling and bewitching tale. The mystery itself had a sprinkling of misdirection and red herrings and enough doubt was created to keep me guessing pretty much to the end. With its great characters and a solid plot, this really is a splendid read and also a tremendous series. I highly recommend Buried by the Sea to those with a penchant for well-written cozy mysteries and I very much look forward to my next outing with Liz and her parrots!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Buried by the Sea is the fifth book in Kathleen Bridge’s By the Sea Murder mysteries. A group of archaeologists have taken up residence at the Indialantic by the Sea, author Liz Holt’s family hotel on a Florida barrier island. Sponsored by a wealthy Florida builder, the group is digging for evidence of Juan Ponce de Leon landing here on the coastal edge of the neighboring property. That is until one of the group is found murdered at the dig site.

Liz and her boyfriend, PI Ryan Stone, are drawn into the investigation and find conflicting information. With Liz’s father, attorney Fenton Holt, and his new bride, Agent Charlotte Pearson, on their European honeymoon, it is her replacement Agent Sam Bly, that is in charge of the investigation. When the owner of the neighboring property, Bertram “Birdman” Bennett is taken in to the station and doesn’t return, Liz and Ryan feel they must go further to clear their elderly friend.

When their coastline is grazed by a tropical storm, some suppositions are dispelled, new ones come forth, and the unexpected conclusion is revealed! This may well be the best book in this series. I very much enjoyed reading another well written mystery by Ms. Bridge! I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!

This is book five in the "By The Sea" mystery series by cozy author Kathleen Bridge. I highly recommend this series. This can read as a stand alone . Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own.

Our Protagonist Liz Holt has welcomed a team of archaeologist to her hotel as they work on a historical site. When one is murdered at the site Liz is shocked when one of her friends is the prime suspect. Together with her elderly friends and family, her parrots and her boyfriend Liz is once again on the case in a race to save her friend.

This is a wonderful series set in a beautifully described coastal area. I love the charming charcters and the author always has a wonderful sleuth. I highly recommend this next in series.

A lovely spot on the coast filled with old stories, explorers, and shipwrecks consistently draws treasure seekers including the current team of archeologists staying at Indialantic by the Sea. They appear to have found a valuable artifact at their dig site but one of them is discovered very quickly buried in the pit with a diving spear in his chest.

The Bennett property, site of the dig, has not been a particularly quiet venue lately. It’s obvious there are problems among them. Unfortunately, it’s Birdman (the property’s owner) the police arrest and protagonist Liz Holt knows it couldn’t have been he.

Ryan is her PI boyfriend and their relationship is becoming serious. Her octogenarian aunt, a flamboyant ex-Hollywood bit player is always full of stories and a strong support character. Among other support characters are two macaws.

The investigation and collaboration continue until the perp is ascertained in a rather low-key conclusion adding in one last twist of a romantic nature at the end.

I must admit to finding more than a few passages so low key my interest waned and I had a hard time staying engaged, nor was I able to connect to the protagonist. There were twists and more clichés than I appreciate (including the extended conversation regarding Barbies) that just lost me in the pages. Apparently the wrong book for me, but I’m sure fans of the author will find the discussions, particularly regarding Ponce de León enlightening.

I have been a fan of Kathleen Bridge’s s By The Sea mysteries since I read the first offering in this series. Buried By The Sea is the fifth novel, and a worthy successor to the previous titles. All the familiar components are present - Aunt Amelia, Ryan Stone and the supporting cast of characters that flesh out and make these stories fun to read. A visiting team of archeologists set the stage for the dead body. I found this story full of interesting details, and red herrings. Enough doubt was created to keep me guessing pretty much to the end. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, give this one a try! A lovely bonus is the strong sense of place with the ocean setting.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

Buried by the Sea is by far the best in the By the Sea Mysteries. Book 5 is adventurous and quirky and has just the right ingredients to make this a fun cozy mystery.

Liz being naturally busy with the family hotel doesn't really have time for much else. If that isn't enough a group or archaeologist staying at the hotel are looking for treasures. What they didn't expect when they uncover the buried treasure is a body.

Next thing you know Liz and her Pi boyfriend are on the hunt. Definitely recommend Buries by the Sea!!

A great read!

'Buried by the Sea' was a delightful addition to the A By The Sea Mystery series by Kathleen Bridge. I just love all of the quirkiness of the inhabitants of the Indialantic world, both persons and animals. The devotion of the characters to each other is so endearing to me, and I just feel joy to read the series. Liz's dad is off on his honeymoon when another murder occurs, as well as yet another decades old one is uncovered. Liz works well with Ryan, her boyfriend and Betty (a writer of Nancy Drew mysteries as Carolyn Keene) to try to avoid bother the newlyweds while their beloved neighbor Birdman is the suspect of the murder. It is face paced and overall wonderful, and I recommend it and the entire series highly.

Buried by the Sea by Kathleen Bridge is the 5th book in the By the Sea Mystery series, and another great book. Novelist, Liz Holt is now living in her home town of Melbourne Beach, Florida, she moved home from New York. Liz is happy to be home and be with family and friends, and helping with the family hotel Indialantic by the Sea. This adventure is very interesting about archaeologist staying at the hotel, while they dig on land close to the hotel. Liz realizes something is not right with the dig, so she and her PI boyfriend are on the case. There are twists and turns around every corner. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. If you love fun cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book/series. I am anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.

Liz, as usual, has her hands full keeping things moving smoothly at their family hotel, The Indialantic, especially while her father and his new wife, Charlotte are off on their honeymoon. Her Great Aunt Amelia is always a delightful handful and these days she is teaching a theater class for teenage girls. Too bad there is a great generational chasm to deal with as the young ladies have a whole different point of view when such things as tv vampires are being shown on the big screen. Great Aunt Amelia was a 1960's tv actress and starts out trying to explain Dark Shadows. The tv references are delightful as well as the references to Nancy Drew and which ones their resident mystery writer, Betty Lawson, wrote. (Her lips are sealed). On top of that, they have a group of archeologists lodged at the hotel while they search for real Spanish buried treasure. The dig is on the adjoining property and soon they hit the mother lode - treasure! Somebody has other plans for the treasure and murder is the result. Too bad the police are suspecting Birdman, the owner of the property with the treasure. Liz, with the help of her boyfriend, PI Ryan Stone and the various colorful residents of the area and hotel, sets out to clear him and stop the killer before any more lives are ended. Hopefully she won't be on the killer's list.
Not only are the human cast of characters great to spend time with, so are the various animals. Three cats, two dogs and a new macaw rescue named Carmen Miranda who is not so sure she wants anything to do with the wacky, loud mouth macaw, Barnacle Bill. Add them all to a well crafted puzzle in a lovely tropical setting and this is another five star mystery to let the reader escape from it all.
My thanks to the publisher, Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
