This is the third book in the The Haunt Vault series by Katja Desjarlais. Redemption is Jagger's story. Although you can enjoy this third installment as a standalone, I strongly recommend reading the first two books before jumping into this one, since it builds the paranormal world that this book takes place in. This book features Bianca Schumann, a Former Tender and an esteemed mediator in vampire society. Because of her position she becomes a target of Species Purifiers. The overall story tells of Bianca and Jagger working to exact revenge on the humans responsible for the destruction of her home.

The book takes a look at a lot of social issues that a true to human society while staying true to the paranormal world created for this series. The author does an excellent job showing how the vampires must now rely on people that they used to hold power over. I also enjoyed the relationship between the vampire brothers. They are a fun family to read about with good dialogue. Though I miss the humor that was in the previous books, but I understand that this is in relation to the unknown future before them

The author did an excellent job pacing the story and I look forward to the next book in the series. I look forward to seeing the final outcome.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGally for an honest opinion of the materials.

4.5 stars

The first book in this series, Connection, introduced us to Dominic, the youngest vampire brother. Book 2: Perception sheds light on Mickey. Book 3: Redemption follows Jagger!

Although you can enjoy this third installment as a standalone, I again strongly recommend reading the first two books before jumping into this one, since it explains the society, hierarchy, and habits of the characters. Because of that, I enjoyed Redemption very much.

Pros:

+ I still enjoy the relationship between the vampire brothers. No matter how much they banter, argue, and fight, their loyalty and love toward each other are palpable. The author does a great job building up their relationship and making us wish we belonged to a family with such strong bonds. 🙂 I still root for them more and more throughout the books (I didn’t at the beginning of the first book).

+ This third book also tackles human and social issues behind the paranormal facade. The author here skillfully shows injustice and abuse. I like how she tilted the balance between who holds the power now. The once all-mighty vampires are in a pickle, and they learn to change their way and rely on the ones they had used before. On top of the action, the high stakes, and the romance, this book leaves you thinking. Who’s right, who’s wrong? How to meet a middle and compromise, or is it even possible?

+ I really enjoyed the pacing and how much action there is. I was guessing the entire time and right there with Jagger and Bianca against the world. 🙂

Light Cons:

- There hasn’t been as much humor between the vampire brothers in this third book. However, the stakes are getting higher, so their new worried stance made sense.
- Some of the fighting/training scenes were a little too long, and in my opinion, didn’t move the action forward.

Last Words:

It felt like getting reacquainted with old friends, I loved the feeling. I hope we’ll get Book 4 soon! And since I was wrong last time when I guessed who we’ll follow next, I’ll use my same bet as before… Nichols?

FYI:
There is cursing. Trigger Warning: although explained and essential to the book premise, some of the descriptions and treatments of Tenders/Courtesans/Bloodslaves can be hard to read. Be prepared to step into a new world with a different set of rules.
