The Summer of No Attachments is the latest release by Lori Foster. A wonderful summer read that has all the feels, like good friends sitting on the beach by the water during the hottest days of summer.
Ivey is in a slump, well not a work slump she could work twenty-four seven and still never get caught up. Her personal life however is another story. Stuck in a dead-end relationship she decides she needs to throw caution to the wind and make this a summer of no attachments. Quickly entering the picture is Corbin and his son Justin.
Corbin did not even know he has a son, much less that his son was 10 years old, until his ex-girlfriend showed up at his door and promptly walked away without Justin. Trying to figure out this new life routine is trying for them both, but Corbin is determined to give Justin the very best life he can. It is not easy, but he tries chipping away at the wall Justin has placed around his heart to just let him in a little bit.
Ivey and Corbin fall very quickly into a comfortable place in their budding relationship. The feeling that they have known each other for their whole lives instead of just a few weeks. Corbin loves that Ivey speaks her mind, and Ivey loves how compassionate Corbin is about his son and animals. Together they decide to try out a relationship, but will an unexpected guest uproot their developing feelings?
In a secondary storyline, Hope, who works with Ivey and is like a sister, has run away from everything she once knew to start a new life. Very cautious in new relationships, she leans on Ivey to help her navigate her feelings and start to trust people again. When Corbin’s brother Lang shows up unexpectedly at her door, feelings she thought long buried start bubbling to the surface.
Lang decides to drop everything and surprise his brother with a visit. Knowing Corbin just found his son, he worried his brother might be too concerned at making it all perfect. Bringing his brand of relaxed humor and fun to the table might be just what the house needs. He did not count on meeting Hope though, she intrigues him beyond any scope of reality. Finding out her troubling past makes him more determined to get her to accept him, but will she be able to let go of the past scars and doubts?
As usual, Ms. Foster tells a story so beautifully that the reader is swept directly into the pages like they are right beside the characters. A story of fresh starts, new beginnings, old friendship, blooming romance and trusting yourself most of all. Being an animal lover myself, seeing how the author details each animal interaction with real emotions and reactions had me reacting with the characters. Another keeper for the bookshelf.

THE SUMMER OF NO ATTACHMENTS (The Summer Friends Book #2) by Lori Foster is a heartwarming and heart-wrenching women’s fiction story of friendship with two contemporary romance plots intertwined throughout. These characters pulled me in from page one and I could not put it down. While this is the second book in the series, it is easily read as a standalone.

Ivey Anders is the local veterinarian. She has unruly curly hair, a mouth with no filter and a huge heart filled with love. Ivey has decided to end her two-year-old dead-end relationship and enjoy a summer of no attachments. When she goes with her veterinarian assistant to check out a new rental, she meets the new man in town. Corbin Meyer is hot, sexy and a single dad who has just found out he has a son who is ten years old.

Hope Mage is Ivey’s best friend and her veterinarian assistant. Ivey has taken her under her wing since the incident that estranged her from her own family four years ago. Solitary and skittish around men and social situations, Hope is happy for her friend’s new relationship, but cannot see it happening in her own future until Corbin’s older brother, Lang comes for a visit. He is funny, sexy and kind and Hope realizes that she is attracted to a man for the first time in several years.

This is a perfect summer read! I love all the characters in this story, but especially Ivey. She made me laugh and cry with her big heart. Ivey and Hope’s friendship is the backbone of the story and then they each find what they need in the Meyer brothers. Corbin’s son, Justin broke my heart and yet also made me laugh. I loved his ability to love even with all the trauma in his young life before he was delivered to Corbin. The book has plenty of animals to fall in love with as well. This story had the perfect balance of love, friendship, family and emotional up and downs.

I highly recommend this wonderful women’s fiction/contemporary romance!

This is the perfect summer beach read - small town, not one but two romances, lots of family dynamics, a lake, humor, and lots of emotions. Ivey and Hope are a perfect example of how family isn't always based on blood. They've developed a very close relationship and look out for each other in their lives. Enter brothers Corbin and Lang Meyer in the mix. I love how Corbin and Ivey's relationship is so different from Lang and Hope's.

You'll want to have a few tissues handy as you read this story as you will be shedding tears of joy and sadness. There are so many great characters and as you read, you begin to feel as if you are actually there in Sunset living right along with the characters.

I really enjoyed this really sweet enjoyable summer story. This story is about 2 brothers and 2 women who are more like sisters than friends, and a 10 year old boy who stole my heart. This is the perfect summer read. It's a double dose of love and HEA.

This is a delightful summer read with two friends both finding love. Ivey is not looking for attachments when she meets Corbin and his troubled son. Ivey’s veterinary clinic assistant Hope who is very hesitant about relationships finds herself connecting with Corbin’s brother Lang.
This book brings love, humor and feelings to the forefront. Not only are the love stories compelling but all the other relationships from friendship to brothers and fathers are also explored in a heartwarming way. This is the perfect beach read because it has multidimensional characters as well as wonderful love stories. It’s a cant put down book that leaves you smiling when you are done.

You know when you read a book and all the characters are just lovely; literally every character is just straight out of a Hallmark movie delightful? Those are the type of characters you encounter in Lori Foster’s, Summer of No Attachments. I felt I was caught up in one of those damn Christmas movies where I was trying to save the christmas tree/poinsetta/hot chocolate farm while falling in love with my high school sweetheart who also happens to be the bank manager/land developer that’s trying to take it all away. By the end of the book, I wanted to move to Sunset, wherever the hell this takes place, and find my own land developer/sports complex owner/IT manager. Guess what? Even the ‘villain’, who’s not really bad, just misguided, is innocuous. Everyone is so damned likable!

A little plot -
Ivey and Hope, best friends and coworkers, looking forward to a nice quiet summer in singledom; Ivey is newly split from her long term boyfriend and Hope suffers from a traumatic past making her something of a commitment phobe. Enter Corbin and Lang Mayer, two brothers who prove Ivey and Hope’s summer of no attachments will be anything but. Between puppies, horror movies, and lake life, Ivey and Corbin along with Hope and Lang find the spark they’ve been missing in life. Corbin’s young son, Justin, rounds out the cast of lovable characters that prove you don’t have to be blood relatives to be family.

The Compliment Sandwich
The Top Bun (Pro)
The Characters
I think by my prologue above you know I enjoyed the characters and their personalities. Everyone was willing to give each other the benefit of the doubt. We had no double talk, misunderstandings, or feigned love interests. Ivey, in particular, is very up front with what she wants, how she feels, and where she wants her relationship with Corbin to lead. While their relationship progresses quite quickly, it feels natural. I think all of us at some time have met an Ivey: outspoken (but not aggressive), empathetic, loving, funny, and carefree. With Corbin, she’s found someone who is open minded and outgoing, therefore, you can see the relationship reach its denouement quite naturally.

At different times in the book, the narrative shifts between characters, yet it doesn’t feel jarring. When Foster is writing from Lang’s perspective, for example, it feels believable. While we are not given a large amount of backstory for each character, Foster provides enough to develop a pastiche of personality, past experiences, and emotions. I’m surprised by the investment I had with each character without the supplementary history. For example, the only character with a vast amount of backstory is Hope, and it’s integral to her development both personally and her relationship with Lang throughout the book.

The Meat (Con)
I would have enjoyed a little more expansion into the every day life of the couples. We are imagining once Ivey begins living with Corbin and Justin that it’s smooth sailing. It may have been interesting to witness their first disagreement or a slight fracas to illustrate how they would handle relationship speed bumps moving forward. Not to say that the book doesn’t have it’s dramatic moments; however, Corbin and Ivey are always carefully attuned to one another, which doesn’t always happen in relationships - even the strongest of them stumble now and then.

The Bottom Bun (Pro)
The Pacing
This book moves quickly. As we are in the thick of beach season, this is the perfect sunny afternoon read. Moreover, the plot takes place along a lake during the summer, so it’s destined to fill you with thoughts of jumping on a boat in swimwear and taking a plunge. While taking place during three short months, they are filled with drama, burgeoning love, and sexy interludes. Yes, we do have sexy times in this book, none are very graphic, but hot nonetheless.

Lastly, Lori Foster gets bonus points for two things: animals and horror movies. My girl, Ivey, is not only a caring and outstanding person, but an amazing veterinarian and lover of the horror genre. She’s a heroine after my own heart! We have references to The Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, all the while saving abused pregnant dogs and abandoned cats. Lori, you had me at the pregnant wounded dog named Daisy.

Great story. Loved the characters. Ivey is so strong, plain speaking and loving. Hope has been damaged, but she is stronger than she knows. Corbin and Lang are both strong and loving men. Corbin was surprised when a girl he dated a few times just shows up with a 10 year old boy and announces that the boy is his son and she needs a break. Corbin being the wonderful man he is, takes Justin and works to make a good life for the two of them. Family is everything, even when they are a little over the top and Corbin needs his family to help him out. As the brothers and Justin are adjusting to each other, Ivey and Hope are incorporated into the mix. Love and family are what is needed to heal some wounds. Can they all make a life together?

The Summer of No Attachments by Lori Foster makes the perfect read for readers looking for a heartwarming story about family, friendship and healing.

This heartwarming story introduces Ivy Anders and Hope Mage, two friends who are as close as sisters. Ivey is a veterinarian, who owns her own clinic, while Hope is her assistant.  Ivey recently broke up with her boyfriend and has no plans to enter into another committed relationship. What she never counted on was the handsome Corbin Meyer entering her life. Soon her plans for a summer of no attachments were pushed aside.

Corbin recently discovered he fathered a ten year old boy, Justin, whose mother signed away her parental rights. Corbin relocated with the hopes of giving his son a better life.

Hope had a traumatic experience which led  to her leaving home at age seventeen and relocating to Sunset, Kentucky. Her past experience made her war and distrustful of men. The last thing she expected was to meet Lang, the man who would demolish her barriers leading to her to trust in the power of love.

The Summer of No Attachments was truly an inspiring and touching story.  It touched on topics such as abuse and addiction, but the lack of drama, the swoony romance and the humorous helped to keep things light.  I enjoyed getting to know the characters who demonstrated immense growth throughout the story.  Even Ivey's ex-boyfriend inspired me with the growth he demonstrated.

Although Corbin and Ivey were the principal couple  I preferred the romance that developed between Hope and Lang. It warmed my heart to see Hope coming out of her self imposed shell and finding happiness. The moments shared between her and Lang was sweet and it had me smiling each time they made an appearance.

Justin's story will break your heart. This aspect of the story shows how the devastation drug addiction can bring to one's life.  It made me happy to knowing he had family he could rely on.

Conclusion/Recommendation

Overall, a wonderful story and one I would highly recommend. Perfect for the summer.

Every time I read one of Lori Foster's books I think oh this is my favorite. I love all of her books. I really connected with this one with Ivey being a vet and so caring for animals. .Helping the dog tangled in wire then realizing she was about to have puppies. He assistant Hope having through a terrible time. So glad Ivey let her boyfriend Geoff go. Things just fell into place when she met Corbin and his son Justin. Her assistant finds a new place to rent and it happens to be owned by Corbin. While she's moving in his brother Lang comes in to the picture. Hard to right a review with not giving story away. But this is another one of Lori's books you can't put down to find out what happens next. I give this book a five star rating.

Best friends Ivey and Hope work at the veterinarian clinic that Ivey owns. This summer brings some change for the friends. Ivey has broken up with her boyfriend of two years and Hope is looking to rent her first apartment; a cottage right on the lake. Corbin and his ten-year-old son have bought a lake house and are renting out the cottage. Corbin’s older brother Lang will soon join them. The weather is perfect for romance, puppy love and new beginnings….

Foster writes stories with characters that pull me in and I truly enjoyed this feel good lake romance. I loved the setting, the clinic, and swooned over the brothers. Low drama that touched on important issues gave the story depth and the romances and critters kept it light.

Ivey is confident, kind and someone everyone can relate to. Her love of pets, horror movies and her friends make her someone you’d like to spend time with.

Hope is in her early twenties. A past event has shattered her confidence. She is timid and afraid of men. Ivey has taken her under her wing as her best friend and protector. I loved watching Hope enjoy first moments, and gain confidence as she found her happy.

Corbin and Lang will make you swoon. They are good men, and the family has rallied around Corbin and his son Justin. The storyline involving Justin and his mother will tug at your heartstrings and shed light on addiction. Lang is a cool uncle. He is supportive of his brother and might be just what Hope needs to gain her confidence.

Foster delivered the perfect beach read with not one but two deliciously sweet romances. Toss in lots of cute pets and summer on the lake with family and friends and you’ve got the perfect beach/lake read.

This is the 1st Lori Foster that I have struggled to finish . The book is missing depth , in the characters, in the story . It has been a difficult year for everyone so I can’t imagine writing a romance book during this time. I do like the double story thing that this series has.

Ivey Anders is kind of a no nonsense person. She pretty much says what she thinks. After a reality check she ends a relationship that wasn't working and decides she's done dating. Ivy's best friend had something in her past that made trusting any man almost impossible. When the they meet brothers Corbin and Lang Meyer it changes them both in different ways. Add in Corbin's new found son and it's a interesting and emotion tugging story. I really liked this story. All the characters were do different and yet seems to mesh well. I loved Corbin and Lang. What a great pair of brothers who were brought up by a strong single parent mom. It's just a feel good story from beginning to end. A perfect summer read.

This was sweet, but still rather blah. Oh surprise, a summer of no attachments leads to two couples getting attached, And they do so very quickly. Their attachments are instantaneous, before anyone has a chance to get to know one another. Then they do and...everyone is still attached. I just didn’t find there to be enough plot to keep interest alive. For a bit, I thought there was going to be some plot complications concerning the mother of the main character’s son, but that all got resolved rather easily.

I usually really like Lori Foster's romances, but this would just seemed to be missing some oomph.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Looking for a thoroughly enjoyable read? Look no further, this is a delightful contemporary romance and a fun read to escape into. Ivey Anders is a veterinarian who runs her own practice with the help of her staff, who include her best friend and clinic assistant, Hope Mage. Ivey has ended her two year relationship which was going nowhere and is determined to have some fun this summer and is definitely not looking for anything long term . . . . and Hope isn’t looking for love, either, after an incident which left her traumatised and estranged from her sister and parents. When Corbin and his son, Justin, visit the practice to ask for advice on getting a dog, none of them anticipated how life changing this would be for all of them – and for Daisy, the recovering rescue dog, and her pups!

This is a story of broken families reconnecting, hurts healing and romances developing. It is a heartwarming story – and Justin quite often steals the scenes! Trauma, surprises, friendship and love all have key roles to play as the story unfolds. Ivey is such a caring person, helping and supporting those in need. Corbin has had his life turned upside down and Ivey is brilliant at supporting both him and Hope whilst Lang proves to be so patient and caring…. They’re all great characters and the story is a brilliant one, filled with love and family issues in need of resolving. This is a great read that I have no hesitation in highly recommending.

Thank you to HQN and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

The Summer of No Attachments is the second book in The Summer of Friends series by Lori Foster. It can be read as a standalone because I have not read the first book from the series and the characters who I am assuming the book focuses on only make a quick cameo and don't impact this book.

This is the story of two best friends, Ivey and Hope, who both find their happily ever afters. Ivey breaks up with her long term boyfriend and is looking forward to a summer of having fun, no strings attached, but she meets single father Corbin and her plans quickly change. Hope doesn't see love in her future since she's still mentally scarred by abuse from her past, but Corbin's brother is a fresh of breath air and she slowly lets him into her heart.

I really enjoyed all the characters in this book. I was happy that we were given all 4 point of views in order to connect with each of the main characters. Ivey and Corbin while the intimacy was slow burn, because of lack of opportunity with a ten-year-old underfoot, the rest of their relationship seemed to be at warp speed. They literally move in together after like a month and when she says the big L word he doesn't reciprocate for much longer than I expected. I don't know, while Ivey, Corbin and his son Justin made a sweet little family unit the adults relationship seemed a bit wonky. On the bright side, all their stolen kisses paid off in some steamy intimate scenes.

I did feel like Ivey and Corbin's story overshadowed Hope and Logan, which bummed me out because their story was a beautiful one. I could have read a full book centered and focused on the two of them. Hope was such a strong, resilient and caring character who was fighting hard to not let her past control her life. Logan was such a charmer and utmost gentlemen, and the way he would do anything for her to be comfortable just made my heart overflow. Even though their romance was also a bit instalovey it didn't feel as rushed and I looked forward to their page time and honestly wished there was more.

Overall, The Summer of No Attachments by Lori Foster is a lovely contemporary romance about friendship, family, hope and healing. With instant connections, heart to hearts, a horror obsessed kid, and filled with more than a few furry four legged friends.

Trigger warning: Discussion of past sexual assault

This is the second book in the Summer Friends series by Lori Foster, but it is a standalone story. I do recommend the first book, The Sommerset Girls, that came out in May of 2020. The Summer of No Attachments was a wonderful story of romance, friendship, family relationships and moving beyond out fears. Ivey Anders just ended a relationship that was going nowhere and decided that this summer she would date, with no strings and no plans for anything more than a casual fling. Her best friend and co-worker, Hope Mage, is also not looking for a relationship. She had something happen in her past that has caused her not to trust anyone. Plans change when Ivey and Hope meet brothers Corbin and Lang Meyer. Sometimes our hearts have a mind and plan of their own.

I loved this story. The characters were amazing. So relatable and people that I would love to meet and be friends with. As much as there are two romances in this book, Ivey's and Corbin's is the main one. As much as I liked these characters, it was Justin, Corbin's ten year old son that stole my heart. He had been through so much in his short life, but I was thrilled when he began to open up and show trust and love in his new family. Then there were the animals that were also integral to this story. I wanted one of those puppies. Hope and Ivey are wonderful friends, supporting one another, caring and also giving them the push they need to move forward. It was great to see them both find someone, and that they were brothers was great. This is a great story that has some tense moments when Hope has to deal with issues from her past, but it is done with sensitivity. There are a couple of descriptive intimate scenes, but not excessive. If you are looking for a wonderful, uplifting summer romance, then The Summer of No Attachments is for you. I did a read/listen with this book and I loved both formats.

what i’m talking about:

Lori Foster is back with another installment in her The Summer Friends Series with The Summer of No Attachments, a small town feel good romance focusing on two couples.

The main couple is Ivey Anders, town veterinarian, and new comer to town, Corbin Meyer. Corbin moved to Sunset with his 10 year old son, Justin. Ivey just broke up with boyfriend of two years.

Corbin is not looking for a romantic relationship because he is focusing on Justin, the son he only just met. Justin’s mom never told Corbin he is a father, and she shows up one day with a 10-year old and leaves him with Corbin. Corbin slowly learns that the first ten years of Justin’s life was not that great.

Ivey is not looking for a romantic relationship either, well she’s hoping for a summer fling but nothing serious. But when she meets Corbin and Justin she falls in love with both of them.

The secondary couple of The Summer of No Attachments is Ivey’s vet tech and best friend, Hope, and Lang, Corbin’s older brother. Hope moved to Sunset a few years ago after a horrible event where her family did not support her. Lang comes to Sunset in order to meet his nephew and help Corbin get settled as a new dad.

Much like Ivey and Corbin, there’s an instant attraction between Hope and Lang. While Ivey and Corbin move at a faster pace in their relationship, Hope and Lang take it slower due to her sexual assault a few years ago.

Both romances are funny, sweet, chemistry-filled, and end in HEA. The friendships and family connections are the real stars of The Summer of No Attachments. Ivey and Hope are like sisters. Corbin and Lang are great guys and close brothers. The foursome really work as a dynamic group who come together to form a loving family for Justin.

Veterinarian Ivey has decided she needs a summer of no attachments after recently breaking up with her boyfriend. Her co-worker vet tech Hope is in agreement for different reasons. Hope decides she is ready to move into her own home and rents a small cottage on the property of a new to town man and his son. Corbin has moved to this small town to get to know his 10 year old son whom he never knew about. When Ivey comes to help Hope move she and Corbin are attracted to each other, but reluctant to begin a relationship. They decide to be friends. When Corbin's brother Lang arrives to meet Justin and help out his brother he is intrigued by Hope. Everyone's summer turns out to be totally different than planned or expected in this fun, heartwarming story of friendship and forming families.

It has been far too long since I’ve read a Lori Foster story. And I’ve read far too few of them. For some reason I’ve only read two short stories from her in the Men of Courage anthology books she did with Jill Shalvis and Donna Kauffman. I really enjoyed them both, but never read more. I jumped on the chance to participate in the blog tour for this story when it came across, but then had doubts because it’s the second in a series. Rest assured, that made absolutely no difference in reading this book. As far as I can tell, they take place in the same town but aren’t really connected in any deep way.

For a woman who has sworn to take a break from men and a woman who has been afraid to open up to anyone her whole adult life, Ivey and Hope are bowled over by the Meyer brothers. They don’t want to be. They don’t mean to be. These men (and one young man) are too charming, caring, and thoughtful to resist. They never push, but they make sure their interest is known in a way that is not uncomfortable or stifling.

The main thread of this story is the budding relationship between Ivey and Corbin. While Ivey just got out of a very stagnant 2-year relationship, Corbin has never really been one to settle down. That is, until he finds out he has a 10-year-old son and becomes the sole parent for Justin. It’s not only Corbin who falls for Ivey from the first, but Justin can’t help but be drawn to her kind nature. Add in some puppies and a grumpy cat and Corbin and Ivey get drawn together over and over. Their relationship really moves quite quickly, but when you know you know. The couple has great chemistry and their relationship never seems forced or stilted.

Hope and Lang are a much slower moving relationship. For reasons I won’t give away here, Hope has cut ties with her family and only trusts Ivey in her life. This is something, even before being told any particulars, both Lang and Corbin pick up on quickly. But Lang can’t help but feel a pull toward her and, though he keeps his distance, he doesn’t give up. Hope finds herself feeling safe around Lang, a new development for her. This couple also has wonderful chemistry, even with the sweet slowness of their relationship.

So much for no attachments. But it is a summer of discovering a brighter side of life for all five of the main characters.
