The second in a series and like most romance series, you don't have to start at book one as each book centers around different characters. Book one focused on a set of sisters who run an animal rescue farm and this book focuses on the veterinarian who volunteers her time to the sisters when they have an animal who needs special attention and one of her techs who helps her in her office.

While I completely fell in love with the women and their story unlike book two where the women felt flat. I didn't love their romance journeys as they felt way too quick from the hello to the I am in love stage! Because I enjoyed these two women, their stories kept me reading even through an eye roll or two as they met a set of brothers and were instantly falling in love.

I loved that both women had back stories and were full fledged characters. AND the brothers that they fell in love with were too. This book had a fantastic set of characters, I wouldn't have minded a slower roll and more than one book that followed their journeys.

It was fun to see the couples from book one make an appearance and honestly wouldn't have minded if they had had more in this book. I wonder if there will be another book set in this Kentucky town with two more women to follow as they find love and happiness.

Record Scratch. There's... a remarkable amount of attachments here for a book titled "The Summer of No Attachments". #ijs :D

But seriously, this is one of those feel good, not even quite Hallmarkie (since it doesn't really even have any even pushover "big threat") Southern romance tales. Yes, there are a lot of heavy elements here - mom abandons son, drug use (off screen), abuse (also mostly off screen), #MeToo moments (also off screen), etc - but there is also quite a bit of lighthearted banter and romance. And puppies! And an old cat! This is apparently book 2 of a series, but it totally works as a standalone, as the people from Book 1 barely show up at all - making this one of those barely connected tangential "series" that share the same world and even town, but don't heavily feature in each others' tales.

Overall truly a light and refreshing read, despite its occasional heft, and great for a relaxing summer read, or a relaxing read at any point in the year really. Very much recommended.

What a fun read! The Summer of No Attachments, by author Lori Foster, is a great “beach read” type book that will make you smile, laugh, swoon, and fall in love.

I loved the characters in this book and how there were multiple POV’s. I was impressed by the strength of Ivey, the way Corbin did what was right and was so good for Justin (swoon! Single father!), Hope (Ivey’s friend and assistant) was trying to fight her past situation, and then Lang was just an amazing addition to the story!

Lori Foster is wonderful at writing romances. She puts a bit of drama, romance, and her characters are always someone you feel you can connect with. Such a fantastic read that I would completely recommend!

What happens when you swear off romance? Naturally, that's when romance finds you. Funny enough, that's exactly how I met my own husband. So, I was kind of rooting for Ivey and Corbin right from the start. Corbin's show-stealer of a son, Justin, just made it that much easier to want to see this group as a family. There's also a second romance with Hope and Lang, so this is really more of a story about family with romance tossed in. Lori Foster has a writing style that pulls you in from the very beginning, and her wonderful characters and setting keep the pages turning. The Summer of No Attachments turns into the summer of all the attachments, and this family story of friendship, love, healing, and learning to trust is the perfect summer read. It's full of feels and absolutely loaded with heart.

In this touching story of two friends who are as close as sisters, each find love, but it doesn't come easy for either of them as they each have baggage that might making finding love rather difficult.

In Ivey Anders's case, owner and veterinarian of a busy clinic, she had a bad breakup and had been prepared to swear off love. Enter Corbin Meyer and his troubled son Justin and and it looks like she just might have to rethink things. With regard to Corbin, he has just discovered that he is a father. What is more is that Justin's mother not only drops him into Corbin's life, she severs her parental rights. Corbin wants Justin to feel secure, and he works hard at that. Meeting Ivey brings Corbin life and light as he finds her impossible to resist.

Then we have Hope Mage, Ivey's best friend and coworker, who experienced trauma in the past. She finds herself rather drawn to Lang, Corbin's brother, who manages to break down her barriers and opens her up to the possibility of trust and love.

The Summer of No Attachments was a wonderful and touching story by Lori Foster and a nice second book in the Summer Friends series. Every story by Ms. Foster is a true delight, with wonderful characters and well-plotted storylines. The conflicts and resolutions are written quite smartly, with an emotional edge that is true Lori Foster style. All of the characters are endearing and I loved having the opportunity to read both love stories and watching them develop.

Many thanks to HQN and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This book was one I couldn't put down - every time I wanted to stop I had to keep reading to find out what happened. Not only was there one romance but this book had two women who work together falling in love with two brothers. All four of the characters had some issues.
Ivey, the vet, had been told that she is too outspoken and talks too much but she is a strong, sensitive independent woman who is going after what she wants. Hope, her assistant is young and had a traumatic near rape experience that has made her leery of men - she's quiet and shy and relies on Ivey to help her be more outgoing.
Corbin, the new man in town has just found out that he had a 10 year old son who was just dumped on him by a girl he knew as a teenager. Together he and his son have moved to town hoping to get a fresh start and get to know each other. His son Justin is skittish and meeting Ivey and the dogs at her clinic help him come out of himself. Corbin's older brother, Lang has come to visit and meet his nephew but he falls for Hope. Seeing that she's skittish he treats her with kid gloves as he helps her become the woman that was always hiding inside.
This was an amazing read and you can't complain when you get two happily ever afters in the end.

THE SUMMER OF NO ATTACHMENTS is a wonderful read that will pull you in from the very first page and never let you go. Lori Foster grabs the reader by the heart strings and reminds us all that you never really knows what goes on behind closed doors. Once I started reading, it was very hard to stop. I was flipping the pages like a woman on a mission. I had to know what was going to happen to these women! I can’t believe I’ve never read Lori Foster before! If you need a cute summer read as a pick me up then THE SUMMER OF NO ATTACHMENTS is a good one to read! This has a couple of my favorite tropes: single dad and small town romance.

THE SUMMER OF NO ATTACHMENTS starts with a heck of a hook! THE SUMMER OF NO ATTACHMENTS is a charming book with a very sweet love story between Ivey and Corbin. It was primary, but there was also a love interest for Hope in Corbin’s brother, Lang. Hope and Ivey are great friends. They support each other and even are able to give a push to each other when needed. I like that both of them end up in a relationship at the same time. It allows them time to chat and work through issues. Ivey and Corbin are great characters, as are Hope and Lang, but young Justin completely steals the show! He is delightful.

If you are in a reading slump, THE SUMMER OF NO ATTACHMENTS will pull you right out! My emotions were all over the place and I had a very hard time liking one of the characters. He is very selfish and behaves like an idiot most of the time. THE SUMMER OF NO ATTACHMENTS is insanely good! More like a train wreck where you know that looking at it isn’t going to be good but you can’t tear your eyes away! I love romances that aren’t just about the relationship between the main characters but also the relationships between family and friends.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Harlequin through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A sweet summer read about two friends who fall for two brothers. Each of the women carries baggage - one from a long-term past relationship she ends early in the book and one from a far more serious attempted rape when she was a teenager. They've become sisters of the heart and Ivey takes care of Hope and encourages her to move forward and keep healing. Two brothers enter the novel almost from the beginning - Corbin has just learned he has a 10-year old son and has moved to this community for a break and new start to get to know each other; Lang has sold his business and come to support his brother and meet his nephew.
Readers meet each character and see how their backstory makes them the people they are at the novel's point in their lives. Their lives intertwine and each develops as a person as well as connecting with others as the story unfolds. It's refreshing to see healthy relationships and committed families (blood and friendship) support each other. There are definitely moments of tension with predictable results but they add to the overall gentle nature of the story.
Foster spins tales at all levels of romance and suspense, and this one is perfect for a relaxing summer read.

Now that I've dried my tears I've got to try and pen a review to give this story justice.
Wow, that last chapter was emotionally exhausting, it went from sad to happy, both events causing tears.
What a beautiful tale of love and acceptance. Two best friends and colleagues and two brothers, great combo and not without its dramas. A ten year old boy, unwanted by his mother is thrown into the mix along with a dog and her puppies and a grumpy old cat. You know it's got to be chaotic.
I love this author, her characters are real and her stories entertaining.
Such a wonderful story, I loved every moment. It had all the emotions and kept me glued to my kindle.

There are certain authors on whom you can rely for stories that draw you in, with believable, well-drawn characters, that give leave you wishing you actually knew them personally, and Lori Foster is one of those authors, and The Summer of No Attachments is one of those novels, and it gets 5 stars from this reader.

The first characters we meet are Ivey Anders (why the author didn't spell her name as "Ivy" isn't explained), a small town veterinarian, and her friend and tech assistant, Hope Mage. Ivey has just broken up with Geoff, her live-in boyfriend of 2 years, and he isn't taking it well. Hope is deeply afraid of men after nearly being raped by her sister's fiancé 4 years earlier, and she suffered even more when her family and sister were more interested in his wealthy family than they cared about Hope, although she had the bruises to prove she'd been assaulted. Feeling betrayed and abandoned by her family, she left home and found a job and a good friend in Ivey, in small town Sunset, Kentucky.

Also newly arrived in Sunset, is Corbin Meyer, and Justin, the 10-year-old son he didn't know he had until the day his mother dropped him off at Corbin's, saying it was now his turn to care for his son. Wanting a fresh start for both himself and his son, he moved to Sunset and a lovely, lakeside home with a guesthouse on the property. It's there he meets his first prospective guesthouse tenant, Hope, who came to view the place with Ivey--afraid of being alone with a man she'd never met. The attraction between tall, handsome Corbin, and Ivey is immediately obvious, but Ivey, newly boyfriend-free, has sworn that this will be her "summer of no attachments," and as romance readers we know darn well that it will be anything but.

Corbin's primary interest is in getting to know his son, Justin, who's been emotionally damaged by his mother's lifestyle and subsequent desertion, and her preference for drugs and alcohol over her own son. Corbin went to court to get full custody of Justin, and is working hard to give him the best childhood he possibly can, and raise him in the same loving environment he and his brother, Lang, were raised in. When Lang shows up with a housewarming gift, a new speedboat, and then meets and is attracted to shy, withdrawn, traumatized Hope, things in Sunset really start to get interesting, as all the adults in Justin's life try to help him adjust to a new town and the father he's just met..

If you enjoy heartwarming novels about new relationships and complicated family dynamics, this is a book I think you'll savor. The characters are wonderfully drawn, have depth, understanding, and although there are some problems and issues ahead, these characters soon learn that being together makes them the best versions of themselves. Even the pets in this story are wonderful. It's a sweet and thoughtful love story, and while I would have preferred a tad more drama, its message of the importance of family bonds, even among those who become family by choice, and the bonds of friendship, kindness and decency all combine to make this a charming, moving, and excellent summertime read. I do hope that Ms. Foster sets more of her novels in Sunset, Kentucky, I fell in love with this small town too.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions stated are my own.

A great book perfect to read at the beach or lake on vacation. Hope and Ivey seem like an unlikely match, but somehow this friendship clicks as if they'd known each other for a lifetime.

After breaking up with her long term boyfriend and looking forward to a summer of no attachments, instant attraction occurs with Corbin and his son Justin for Ivey. Hope, her assistant at her veterinary practice, is younger by a decade, and a brutal attack at 17 left her scared of men, but when she meets Corbins brother Lang something clicks.

As all accept their new relationships, patience and empathy for the past pains and damaged pasts make a for a fun and unique story. Lori captures the small town feel and unique challenges each person faces and it's wonderful to experience. A great read so be sure to add it to your summer reading list.

I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.

This book was really good! Great summer read. I loved the characters and the story! I love Lori's books and she never fails to entertain. Her heroes are fantastic! I absolutely love them. They are tough on the exterior and all soft on the inside. I seriously couldn't put it down.

Corbin is a laid back guy who's just discovered he's a dad- to a 10 year old boy. Corbin and Justin move to the small town of Sunset and meet Ivey, a veterinarian with a huge heart for both animals and people. Having just broken up with her boyfriend, Ivey is planning on having a summer of no attachments- just casual, laid back fun. The biggest attachment she'll have is to a new dog, Daisy, and her pups that have come into the clinic. That plan goes out the window as soon as Ivey and Corbin meet. The two click perfectly. It isn't just a case of explosive chemistry- it is better than that. They click. They discover that together they are the better versions of themselves, that supporting one another makes them an incredible unit. Neither planned to find forever, both are worried about what too much change could do to Justin, but how do you ignore it when the perfect partner falls into your life?

It might sound sappy, but I loved Lori Foster's book because of how easily and nicely the people fit together. This wasn't a story of instant lust, chemistry and danger. It was a story of family and friends who are family, of support and discovering who you are and who you can be. Ivey didn't have to change anything about herself to fit into Corbin's life, they worked simply by being themselves. I loved how the character of Hope, Ivey's friend, was written- someone who's lived through trauma and is slowly becoming comfortable with herself and others again. Ivey supports her with friendship instead of pity and never suggests Hope can't or shouldn't do something because of her fears. The two women simply give it to each other straight and support whatever decisions are made. Hope gets to come out of her shell and still face some of her past, and we get to see her grow and move on as she does. Hope may be a 'secondary' character but she (and her relationship with Corbin's brother Lang) never feels secondary, and gets plenty of page time and development.

An overall lovely new book, this looks at family and friends, the bad as well as the good, and how we are all more able to face the bad when we have a solid core of good in our corner. And never have to change who we are to get it. A book of humor and fun, heart and heat, a perfect summer romance.

Local vet, Ivey Anders has ended her relationship and heads into the summer determined not to get involved with anyone. She doesn't need anything that is going to complicate her life. Then she meets Corbin Meyer and his son, Justin, and her plan goes awry.

Hope Mage, Ivey's assistant, has suffered a devastating trauma which makes her fearful to move forward. She is scared to trust and open her heart. But then Corbin's brother, Lang, coming into the picture and he is patient and so understanding that she finds herself beginning to open up in ways she never imagined.

Lori Foster wrote a summer read that I think many will find a nice surprise and a sweet read. It was filled with so many serious themes but the strong relationship between the two couples made it a heartwarming read. I enjoyed seeing a different kind of heroine - bold, spoke her mind and upfront with her feelings. I loved the strong sense of family and how strong the bond was. Justin's storyline resonated with me.

I especially loved the sisterhood and friendship between Ivey and Hope. This story should the the healing power that time and the right person brings. Hope and Lang's story warmed my heart. I look forward to reading more from this author and recommend this read.

My first book by Lori Foster and will not be my last. This is a sweet family romance done very well. The story tackles many issues and is woven throughout the plot naturally. I loved the setting, the plot, and all the characters. I adored the message of family, friendship, and healing. There are two romances; both are pretty instant; but while one clicks immediately, the other is a lesson in growth and trust. Ivy is a fun character as she speaks her mind, often without thinking. Corbin is the ideal male lead as he tackles becoming a dad to a young son he didn’t know about, a new move, as well as his new relationship with Ivy. Hope is a character with so much growth as she lets go of the past and moves on without fear. Lang, Corbin’s brother, is a much-needed support for Corbin and Justin, as well as the perfect love interest for Hope. The story with the Justin, Corbin’s 10-year-old son, is done amazingly well. He fits perfectly into the story. He has a lot of adjusting to do and learns to trust and love.

For someone who didn't want any attachments over the summer, veterinarian Ivey certainly jumps in with both feet when she meets Corbin and Justin. The no-strings strategy unravels FAST.
Hope and Lang were another perfect fit. Lang tears down her walls easily just by being his amazing self. Love abounds this summer! Wonderful characters and special family and friend relationships.

Ivy is a vet in a small town and Hope is her assistant. Both have had bad relationships in the past and are not looking for love or any kind of romance. Enter Corbin, Justin, his 10 year old son that he didn't know about, and Lang his brother. This is a wonderful story of many people that need healing, in different ways and how they came together to create a new family. Wonderful summer read, perfect for at the beach or curled up in the air conditioning for a lazy weekend. I always love how Lori can bring such different and interesting characters together in a story, this story is no different.

I enjoyed this book for a multitude of reasons.

First the setting. Set in a small town affectionately called Sunset which was so lovely. This book brings to life a small-town feel where people look out for one another. It was so cozy and made me want to move here.

Second, you got two stories in one. You got to see Ivy fall in love with a single dad who by the way is raising his son who has had a hard life growing up. As someone who saw what abuse could do to a child, Justin stole my heart from the get-go. The love story between Ivy, Corbin, and Corbin's son was so endearing and watching both Ivy and Justin learn that love is unconditional was beautiful.

Then you add in Corbin's brother Lang and his growing love for Hope. Not to mention Hope's own past that she is healing from was a beautiful journey to watch.

This book was so beautiful it had love, healing, and the journey to trust again. It simply was a wonderful read one I could see myself reading again and again, I could also see this book as a Hallmark movie it was that good.
