Reading the graphic novel "Brontë," I entered the tumultuous world of the Brontë sisters—Charlotte, Emily, and Anne. Despite the promising premise of exploring their pursuit of independence through art amidst familial strife, my journey left me underwhelmed, earning this graphic novel a three-star rating.

Manuela Santoni's depiction of the Brontë household, grappling with an ailing father and an alcoholic brother, provides a visually striking backdrop. The decision of the sisters to adopt male pseudonyms, the Bell brothers, to navigate the restrictive norms of the nineteenth century is a captivating narrative choice, offering insight into their determination to wield the pen despite societal constraints.

However, as I delved deeper into the graphic novel, I found myself grappling with a sense of detachment. While the artwork effectively captures the stormy fortunes of the Brontë household, it fell short of establishing a profound connection with the characters. The emotional resonance I sought, given the challenges faced by the sisters, remained elusive, leaving their struggles feeling somewhat distant.

The portrayal of Branwell Brontë, the self-destructive sibling, injected an element of familial complexity, yet the narrative didn't fully capitalize on his potential impact. His rages and struggles were presented, but the depth of his character and the nuanced dynamics of their relationships felt slightly underexplored.

The chronological progression of the sisters' artistic endeavors, leading to the creation of their renowned works, was evident but lacked the narrative finesse that could have elevated the storytelling. The evolution of the Brontë sisters from aspiring writers to literary icons seemed to miss the opportunity for a more compelling and immersive exploration.

While the muted color palette and atmospheric illustrations conveyed the gloomy ambiance of the Brontë household, at times, they seemed to restrain the vibrancy that could have infused more life into the narrative. The visual aesthetics, while commendable, occasionally left me yearning for a more dynamic and emotionally charged presentation.

In conclusion, "Brontë" stands as a respectable attempt to encapsulate the prelude to the Brontë sisters' literary legacy. However, the narrative and artistic choices left me desiring a more immersive and emotionally resonant experience. I extend a three-star rating, recognizing the graphic novel's merits but acknowledging the room for a deeper exploration of the Brontës' journey.

𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: Se sobre las obras de las hermanas Bronte, Jane Eyre es de mis favoritas pero no sabia realmente sobre la historia de su familia (bueno sabia un poco por las reseñas de la fan #1 @elysehdez19 vayan a su canal es muy bueno) En fin, esta novela grafica nos platica sobre como las hermanas Bronte después de tanta perdida y dolor además de la hartez por su hermano alcohólico se arman de valor para escribir y mandar sus obras a un editor. Veremos las indecisiones de las hermanas al compartir su trabajo y la triste historia de su hermano. Su padre no tenia dinero para la dote de sus hijas por esta razón invirtió lo poco que tenia para mandarlas a estudiar y que se conviertieran en institutrices, fueron criticadas bastante ya que eras solitarias y “diferentes” no buscaban encajar ni conseguir marido. Querian trasender y ser publicadas. Asi es como publican bajo pseudonimos de hombre compartiendo sus historias bajo el apellido Bell, después suceden una serie de hechos que las hace revelar su genero y verdadero nombre. Creo que son figuras inspiradoras y hoy en dia su obra sigue vigente ya que trataban de manera intima los problemas familiares, criticaban las buenas costumbres además del acoholismo y la violencia domestica.

For someone who has never read a book by a Bronte, I really enjoyed this one. I think having graphic novels like this opens up the world of classics to those who would usually never pick them up.

The colour palette and illustration style matches the vibe of this story which tells a lesser known part of the life of one of literatures best known and loved siblings.

As a Bronte fan I was intrigued by this Graphic novel. For starters the angle is a new one, the overhead narrator being the Bronte Sister's brother, Branwell Bronte. There was a lot of self pity on his behalf of how he couldn't live up to his sisters, which from what I know seems true to life. The story told of how the sisters pursued writing partly for upkeep partly for pursuing their passion for writing.
On the whole it was pretty accurate on the details and was a good summary of the life of of the authors.
The black and white illustrations fit perfectly with the tone of the book, the style as well very fitting to the setting of the Moors and general tragicness of the whole history of the Bronte family.
I would read again and recommend to all; though I feel that maybe Bronte fan would appreciate more, it's a good intro to the history of the literary trio.

I enjoyed reading this, it is at it's core a story about awesome women, making their way in a world that doesn't respect them.
I did find the art style, weird. Often times I found myself thinking that it looked like the types of sketches that you would find in the margins of a notebook.

Girl boss Brontë sisters. Why. Not exactly what I wanted or expected lol. I was hoping for more of a historically accurate Brontë graphic novel, not a literally just straight-up Brontë-inspired historical fiction. Wasn't a fan of the art style either, although I did like how the art style worked with the pacing of the story.

This is a translated graphic novelization of the life of the Brontë sisters, Charlotte, Emily, and Anne. Admittedly, I don’t know enough about the Brontës to speak on the historical accuracy of the work but I can say that I wasn’t a huge fan of the art style. It just fell a little short. The timeline and notes included in the back were definitely helpful, though.

Maybe something was lost in translation, but this felt a bit too melodramatic. The events of the Bronte family's life did have a gothic feel to it, but so much drama happens in such a compressed time frame as to feel unrealistic. Maybe I'm wrong and the comic was a true depiction of events, but the one-note characterizations and melodrama took something away from the brilliance of the sisters' stories and the tragedies of their lives.

This graphic biography certainly was interesting, and I learned a lot about the Bronte family and what the sisters went through to publish their books. Unfortunately, the illustration style let me down a little. I struggled to tell who was who for most of the book and ended up having to use context clues instead of just being able to flow through the scenes.

This is a great read for those looking for an overview of their lives, without having to do a deep dive. I can't speak to the historical accuracy, as this is my first memoir-style read about them.

Art: The art style of this graphic is almost a bit dark and sinister, and I think it helped add to the seriousness of the story. I do however wish there had been more distinct looks for each sister, it was a tad difficult to know who was who at times.

Writing: Once again, this was very much an OVERVIEW, so if you were looking for it to get deep - it does not. I did enjoy getting the TLDR of their lives, and found it quite enjoyable. I would recommend to others to read, but don't feel compelled to purchase copy.

I was excited at the prospect of reading a graphic novel about the Beonte sisters, but, unfortunately, this one kinda fell short. I think I was not much into it because of the art style, but I did enjoy the flow of the narrative.

"Brontë" by Manuela Santoni gives us a glimpse into the lives of the Brontë sisters as they grow together and all decided to become published authors. I really enjoyed the art style of this book, it was dark and added to the overall ambiance of the story. Overall I enjoyed the graphic novel but I found myself to be lost on a few occasions. Not everything was explained as much as I would have personally liked. However, I think this book is really great for anyone with previous knowledge of the Brontë sisters. I personally don't know much about them so I felt as though I didn't get as much out of the book as I would have if I did know more about the sisters and their writing before going into this book. Overall, I think this a great book for anyone who is a fan of the Brontë sisters.

It was an interesting manga style graphic novel about the Bronte sisters, but it does lack depth and it needs a better storytelling. The art is okay, nothing impressive. The story feels rushed and superficial and you don't really get to know the sisters - heck, it feels more like a graphic novel about their brother, than about them.

A quick read which focuses on the Bronte sisters tumultuous relationship with their brother Branwell. Set before the publication of their works, it depicts a foreboding atmosphere graphically. Sibling rivalry, past hurts and disappointments are revealed as well as the sisters grit and determination to forge their own path and be independent. This delivers a creative, thought-provoking fully-rounded characterisation of their personalities and situation.

This book was a cohesive, beautifully detailed, and illustrated biography of the Bronte sisters and their experiences in writing and life alike. Perfect for any fan of "Jane Eyre", "Wuthering Heights", or literary history in general.

This book had to percolate for a bit. It is a fictionalized biography of the Bronte sisters. I am not a big fan of their literary endeavors, but I learned quite a bit from this story. I always forget there was a 3rd sister, let alone a 4th sister and a brother. The art style was originally a bit off putting, but as the story went on and I got used to it, I realized how well it fit the story. In the end I found this book thoroughly enjoyable.

I love the Bronte sisters. I've always enjoyed their writing and the fact that they were women in a male dominated field of writing. I liked this graphic novel biography about their lives. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the artwork. This type of graphic novel isn't my favorite and it makes the characters look scary, unapproachable and can ruin an entire book with the sharp angles and dull colors.

Voy a comenzar esta reseña diciendo, que me hubiera encantado que me haya enamorado del libro pero penosamente no fue así.
"Brontë" por Manuela Santoni nos cuenta el inicio de, tal y como indica el título, las hermanas Brontë; que por si no saben quienes son capaz reconozcan sus libros, el libro más famoso de Emily es Cumbres Borrascosas, de Charlotte es Jane Eyre y de Anne es Agnes Grey. Además, en este libro se conoce un poco más de la historia de Branwell Brontë, su hermano.
Ahora bien, ¿por qué no me terminó de encantar? Porque creo que la historia tenía potencial pero no sé supo aprovechar. Me hubiera encantado que se cuente un poco más de la vida de las hermanas después de la publicación de sus novelas e incluso hubiera amado que al final, aparezca un apartado con el legado de las hermanas (como su historia fue perdurando a través del tiempo y como eso repercutió en la sociedad). Sin embargo, pude conocer un poco más quienes fueron los Brontës porque por ejemplo, yo no tenía conocimiento de que ellas tenían un hermano. Otra cosa que no me terminó de convencer fueron las ilustraciones.
Pese a todo esto, no me pareció una mala lectura, capaz un poco aburrida, pero me gustó bastante.
