This will appeal to most fans of war stories, especially WW2. I found it a bit emotional at times, and enjoyed the cast of characters. Readers will get a sense of what it was like to be in battle and war settings. Recommended.

Thanks very much for the review copy!!

WW2, Royal Navy, South Africa, 1940s, historical-novel, historical-places-events, historical-research, historical-setting, naval-history, action-adventure*****

Lieutenant Jack Pembroke had his ship sunk at Dunkirk, spent months in hospital with a badly broken leg, has PTSD, lost his mother to a bombing in London, and now is under his father the admiral's thumb commanding a group of minesweepers off the South African coast. To top it all off, too many of the locals hate the British and favor Hitler. What a mess! Good character development, plot, and outstanding depictions of the beauty of the area. I learned a lot while enjoying this tale!
I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Sapere Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

A great new book in I hope the first of a new series. The characters were great and life like and the story was full of action. This book kept me entertained and it was hard to put down.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

THE CAPE RAIDER by JUSTIN FOX is a WW11 novel with a difference, especially as it takes place in my country, South Africa! Not only has the author done a great deal of research but he must have been in the Cape in order to describe its beauty. I have always been proud of my countrymen for their contribution towards both world wars, and it is interesting to learn about the mine sweepers and their dangerous and mostly unsung heroism.
It is good to see Lieutenant Jack Pembroke, after his horrific experience at Dunkirk, taking the bit between his teeth and commanding four trawlers that have been turned into mine sweepers. His love for his ship and for his crew, who come from diverse backgrounds and who he has to mould into a fighting force, is most inspiring.
I highly recommend The Cape Raider as a great read.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Sapere Books. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
