this was such a great collection of short stories, the stories were dark and what I was looking for. It was a great read and I look forward to more from the author.

A short read that includes some very good stories. I like anthologies and short stories, and enjoyed this, even though they are pretty dark. There's a nice variety here and shows the author's talent quite nicely.

I really appreciate the review copy!!

Enjoyable and moreish

The length of time taken read the book was because I did not allow myself more than one story at a time otherwise I run the risk of having a whole jumble. Usually when I make myself only sip at a book rather than take gulps, I loose interest and I have many short story collections started but still hoping that I get back to them. This collection did not have to hope, I kept going back.

Haldane's collection made me think but it also made me feel. I felt sadness, raised eyebrow moments, queasiness, compassion, loneliness, curious. He is able to get to the particular nugget he wants us to see in a story without getting lost in the flotsam. He presents and leaves and then let's me feel and think.

I found these stories to be overall well written and found it astonishing that they just were put aside for all of this time and now published. I think the author has a knack for finding those small niggling things and bringing them into the forefront of a story to break them apart. I found the time period to be well written and loved the observational style and prose of these stories. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.

I really enjoyed this book. Character development was good. The plot was very interesting. Not a lot of typos.
