I hadn't realized that this was a novella, but that wasn't a problem as I was hooked from the very beginning, so I read it in one sitting. I enjoy books with a "creep factor" so this was definitely one for me. Stephanie Black is also one of my favorite authors and this one did not disappoint. Thanks to Covenant Communications and NetGalley .for making this available.

This book met all my expectations I want out of a Suspenseful book! It even was a bit creep. Don’t read it late at night or you may not be able to sleep. Beside that it is a great book. Enjoy!
Thanks

Stephanie Black is a masterful storyteller, she knows how to weave a great story with suspense and a little romance thrown in. This was a great story!

The emotions in the story are handled so well. I love how we enter this story with both heart ache and hope. I also appreciated that we enter the story with the main characters already having interacted with each other, so the romance doesn’t feel rushed or contrived.

Stephanie does a fantastic job of creating mystery and intrigue. I have to admit a time or two I wasn’t even sure if I believed the main character. This is the type of story where your mind is always whirring in the background trying to figure out who actually in the bad guy and how is the main character going to get out of this next scrape. A fantastically written romantic suspense, all wrapped up in a small package

Even in a novella, Stephanie Black can hold my attention and keep me on the edge of my seat. Even though this is a short read (an hour to an hour and a half depending on how fast you read), I was completely satisfied with Mallory's story, and the suspense had me turning pages late into the night to see how it would end.

Mallory's finally getting her life together--she's in college, has a job, and she's trying to repair her relationship with her sister, but in just one day, all of this may come to a crashing halt. It starts with an early morning phone call and only gets worse when her sister and brother-in-law accuse her of using drugs. Mallory can't explain where they came from and everything she says and does makes her look guiltier in sister and brother-in-law's eyes. Who can she turn to for help in proving her innocence?

This didn't feel like a novella to me. The characters were well developed and we even get some of Mallory's backstory in the beginning so the reader doesn't feel as if they've been plopped down in the middle of a story without enough information to understand it. I really liked that we get Darien's point of view in addition to Mallory's. I liked how their relationship developed, and that he was willing to help her even though they hardly knew each other before all of these weird things started happening. I liked Mallory, she'd been through a lot after her mom's death and was working hard to move her life in the right direction.

I loved this novella by Stephanie Black! Her talent for mysteries and suspense are superb! The characters are familiar from previous stories, and the mystery was definitely engaging. The play on "eye for an eye" was clever!

Stephanie Black, knows how to write creepy stories. Mallory's life changed the day her mother was killed. It took Mallory some time to get her life back together. When her sister Eden and Eden's husband Clint, offers her a place to live, while she goes to school; Mallory takes them up on their offer. When weird things start happening and Mallory is caused of them, it will take some convincing to prove her innocence.

I love a quick, exciting read and Eye for an Eye fit the bill. Stephanie Black has a true talent at weaving an excellent and thrilling mystery. This novella reads quickly because the suspense level is high right from the start and I knew I had to keep reading to find out what happens! And it delivers a pinch of romance as a reward. You instantly feel for Mallory and even though her past may not be perfect, she finds a friend in Darien. Together they try to solve who is quickly trying to ruin her life. Of course, it was a well written quick story from the suspense queen Stephanie Black.

I usually prefer a full-length novel because I love to see the characters grow and develop during the course of the book. I was surprised by the development of the characters and the plot.

Mallory is a student who has had her fair share of tragedy due to illegal drug use. Her past and present collide when drugs are found in her sister's home and she is blamed for them. With the help of a new friend, the clues are waiting to be discovered and the real villain revealed.

This book is pretty intense considering its size. I was engaged right from the start and enjoyed the story. It was a wonderful short escape into the world of suspense and fiction.

I didn’t realize this was a short story, but it was suspenseful enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. Black did a good job of building tension with so few pages. I really felt bad for Mallory and her struggles.

I completely forgot this was a novella until I saw that I only had 20 minutes left in the story. That surprised me more than it should have, considering I did actually know it was a novella.

Novellas can be tough, because it's hard to get good character development when you only have a fraction of the time to do it in, but Stephanie did a good job with Mallory and Darien. If they ever show up in a full length novel, I won't be sad about that.

There wasn't really a lot of "who done it" with this story - the reader is led to the culprit without a lot of guesswork - but it was very believable.

Stephanie was able to bring her trademark suspense into the story, and it had me at the edge of my seat at times. While I would have loved this to be a full-length novel, it was well done and a very quick and easy read.

Need a great romantic suspense read? And you are looking for something quick yet very satisfying? This one friends is a great one that you can quickly devour and feel very satisfied. These characters, backstory, everything was well written for the length of it. I was fully invested in Mallory and her story. She's had quite a bit of heartbreak and struggle in her life. When she's finally back on track and doing well, not just surviving, she gets a phone call with news that takes her back to the moment that her life crashed around her. And from there strange things start happening. With the help of the handsome Darien, she might be able to make sense of everything and clear her name.

Ohhh, this one had it all. Suspense, action, a little bit of a creepy moment (ok I was reading it late at night, and she was outside all alone in the middle of the night), family, sweet romance and a very exciting conclusion!

If you enjoy suspense but can't handle it at night, don't read it late like I did. Hahaha! But in all seriousness, read it. It was great! And nothing too intense and scary. I don't do scary. No thanks!

Stephanie Black is a go to suspenseful read author for me. I've really enjoyed all of her books and was excited to jump on the chance to read this novella by her.

Content: Clean. There is talk about alcohol and drugs but not in graphic detail. There is suspense and an attack but it is clean and well written. Some sweet romance but nothing further than kisses.

Happy Reading!!!

Wow, this story packs a punch into it's short pages! It's novella length and I read it in less than an hour. I'm not sure if that was me speed reading because I was so anxious about the story or if it was really that short. Haha.

This author did a great job of giving me what felt like a full sized story in a novella size. Yeah, the romance wasn't there but the beginnings of it was there. It was perfect for what was happening. The story was fast paced and exciting from beginning to end. The perfect little bite sized snack. So fun!

Content: mild peril, kissing, mild violence

I’ve never read anything by this author but I was in the mood for a mystery and thought I would give it a try. I didn’t realize this was a novella but the story felt complete.
Mallory has a troubled past but is overcoming it all by moving in with her sister and brother in law and attending college. When she comes home one day, her sister and brother in law accuse her of doing drugs and have incriminating proof. Mallory and her new friend, Darien, are trying to prove her innocence even though everything points to her. It’s a “who framed her” type mystery.
It was a quick read without anything too gory or violent (even though there is talk of drugs, murder, and some violence).

This was a great novella! It had a unique storyline with well written characters. I would have loved it even more if it had been fleshed out into a full novel, but it definitely packed a punch for a short story. I'd definitely recommend it!

It is hard to pack a satisfying story into a Novella size; however, Stephanie has done just that! A clean suspense novella perfect for when you only have a short time but want to finish the story!

I didn’t realize when I started reading this book it was only 90 pages, so I was pleasantly surprised at how this author packed so much into a novel this size. Mallory's world is suddenly turned upside down when her sister and husband accuse her of something she didn't do, all the clues lead to Mallory. She new in town and feels trapped with no where to turn for help.

I was fully invested in this story that has Mallory questioning everything she believed in. Then a familiar face, an unexpected friend steps in to listen, giving her hope. When Mallory shares her situation with this friend even she isn’t convinced she's innocent. It all sounds ridiculous. It was a suspenseful, mysterious adventure that left me wanting more. This author is one to watch!

I love a good little suspense and this bit-sized story was an afternoon treat. I'm always amazed when an author can develop an intricate and satisfying story in under 100 pages, yet that's just what this author did. The plot was solid, creepy, and complete.

Mallory has a complicated and traumatic past, which allows for the reader to cast suspicion on this protagonist. While likable, she has flaws and I liked how her relationship with Darien progressed on the heels of a good mystery. I loved the way this story was formulated and enjoyed how it all played out.

Content: vague mentions of drug use, murder, mild violence, and peril; mild romance

I loved this latest mystery novella from Stephanie Black! This story packs so much in 80 pages. There is a tight plot which revolves around a possible unreliable narrator. Mallory has a tragic past, but is finally getting her life together. She’s going to college, and has a job where she meets the charming Darien Thomas. When her sister and her brother-in-law whom she’s living with accuse her of stashing illegal drugs in their house, it’s unclear whether Mallory is lying to herself, if her sister or brother-in-law are trying to gaslight her, or if it’s something else. Darien is attracted to Mallory and wants to get to know her better. When she confides in him, he is determined to learn the truth, even if that means not taking Mallory at her word.

There’s suspense, a sweet romance, and an interesting mystery that all lead to an action packed climax. I enjoy mysteries where you aren’t sure whom you can trust. There was no swearing which I really appreciated. Instead, the author used intelligent characters and dialogue to carry the story. This book was hard to put down and can easily be read in one sitting. Definitely recommend. I received a complimentary copy of this novella from NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to give a positive review.
