I really enjoyed this story! This was the first book I have read by author Nicola May, but it certainly will not be the last! I enjoyed her writing style, character development, and unique plot. This is sure to be the start of a great series! The MC in this story has really not been taking care of herself, she is always the one to help others, never says no to a request, and stays in a bad relationship for 8-years just because it’s easier to stay than go. Her life changes quickly when her good for nothing boyfriend ends things and then her journey really begins!

This is the type of story you can curl up with and just lose yourself!

Having loved the Cockleberry Bay series, I was really looking forward to this new release, and Im delighted to say that I wasn’t disappointed.
Once again, Nicola May has created a community filled with characters who I am eager to learn more about. The main focus in this book is on Kara and her family. Originally named Kerensa, a gorgeous Cornish name, she is known as Kara to all except her family. Close to her adorable Grandfather and her father, Kara has a strained relationship with her sister as they see their priorities quite differently. Abandoned before reaching her teenage years, Kara is completely estranged from her mother.
With so many fabulous characters, it’s almost impossible to pick a favourite, but if pressed, it would have to be Pearl. The change that she brings to the family dynamic is wonderful and her nature practically leaps from the page.
Kara is beautifully written and it’s impossible not to fall in love with her and wish her nothing but happiness. Of course, she’s a long way from perfect yet her slightly embarrassing antics manage to make her even more likeable. As the synopsis explains, Kara works on a market flower stall. She has a natural flair, and as the story progresses, it soon becomes clear that she is being taken advantage of.
The story shifts a gear when a mysterious postcard arrives, along with airline tickets for a trip to New York. As this adventurous element of the story begins to unfold, we meet a new and interesting Kara. No longer restricted by the confines of her life at home, she soon adapts to her new challenges, and I felt myself hoping that she would discover a braver version of herself. Of course, I was also trying to work out who her mysterious benefactor could be.
I could go on, but would find myself giving spoilers, and that must be avoided at all costs. I’ll close by saying that I am already looking forward to the next instalment, especially after reading the taster at the end of this book.

Such an enjoyable and entertaining book!
I loved the character of Kara whose kind heart shone out so brightly. It was brilliant joining her on her emotional and physical journeys throughout this gorgeous book.
This looks like the start of an epic series, I really enjoy the communities that Nichola creates, as well as the humour she brings to her stories.
A fantastic summer read that I found enchanting and uplifting too.

This story has emotion, drama, humour and romance in a cleverly crafted world that brings the believably flawed characters and settings to vibrant life. It's set in a Cornish village with a ferry and a delightful market. This story concentrates on the Moon family and Kara in particular.

This is an engaging story with surprising twists. Kara's character development and the family and friendship dynamics are well written. The simple plot lets the characters shine, and the reader is quickly invested in their futures.

This story is comfortingly relatable yet full of originality, making it addictive reading. The ending is romantic and realistic, and I can't wait, for the next book, in the series.

I’ve read one of the Cockleberry Bay series and I know at the time I wanted to read more. However, for whatever reason, I just didn’t get around to it, so when the opportunity arose to read the first in Nicola May’s new series, I jumped at the chance. Ferry Lane Market will be just as successful as Cockleberry Bay and I will definitely, definitely be going back and reading the rest of the Cockleberry Bay books!

Anyway, onto, Welcome to Ferry Lane Market...... Kara is a thirty-three-year-old who has lived all of her life in Hartmouth, Cornwall, Working on a floristry stall in Ferry Lane Market, since leaving school, she is very family-oriented and loves her Dad, her Grandad and her best friend Star. Dumping her cheating boyfriend, Jago, Kara slowly begins a new chapter in her life, starting with renting out her spare room to Airbnb guests. Then, mysteriously, a plane ticket arrives and Kara has to decide whether to embark on the trip of a lifetime.

I love Kara; she enjoys her independence, but she also wants to share her life with those she loves. As she takes her trip, she realises she has a choice. The way she lives her life, the responses to everything that is thrown at her - how she reacts - it’s her choice, and May certainly shares that viewpoint well with her readers. As Kara returns home to Hartmouth, she is a more confident person who knows what she wants from life and how to go about getting it!

Nicola May’s descriptions of Hartmouth and Ferry Lane Market just make me want to visit and to mingle with the residents. I want to visit Frank’s diner and sample his ‘under-the-counter’ gin! I want to take the ferry across the water to Crowsbridge, and I really, really want to visit STAR Crystals & Jewellery!

An exceptional read for these UK hot summer days! Definitely check out Welcome to Ferry Lane Market if you enjoy contemporary romance and a heart-warming feel-good story.

Thirty three year old Kara goes on a journey to sort her life out after a bad break up. She has family and friends to support her but still struggles to get over a bad relationship. A surprise holiday helps her get her life sorted. It took a while to get into the book and some of the characters I just didn’t like but on the whole it was an enjoyable read and I look forward to seeing how the series developed.

This is a real feel good read. It is funny, heart warming, sweet and romantic. The characters are wonderful and very entertaining. It's a story of one woman finding herself and finding love.

Kara is a lovely character. She has just ended a long term relationship and is asking herself, what now? She is surrounded by people who really care about her and are desperate to make sure she doesn't return to her old life. When an anonymous postcard arrives with a plane ticket to New York, Kara, who has never left her hometown, begins a journey which will change her life.

This is a gem of a novel, beautifully written with a lovely ending. I understand this is the beginning of a series and I'd love to read more about Kara and her Ferry Lane Market gang.

What a lovely story, I hadn't read anything by nicola before but I really enjoyed her style of writing the characters were just lovely and you honestly felt like you were watching it all unfold before your eyes, looking forward to more of this series

This book has a wonderful, warm tone throughout. Author Nicola May, whose work is new to me, has done an excellent job of creating a small, friendly community that Kara, the female lead, can depend upon, through thick and thin.

When too much change and drama in her life has her on the rails, an amazing gift from an anonymous benefactor gives her wings and a stellar opportunity to figure out who and what she really wants in her future. I really loved the plot, the characters, and the loving spirit, especially the words of wisdom doled out by Harry, Kara's spirited grandfather.

I now need to look for more by this author because, if this is a prime example of her writing style, I think I've found a perfect fit for the times I crave a low angst, cozy women's fiction piece with a nice touch of sweet romance.

Welcome to Ferry Lane Market by Nicole May is the first in a new series about the close-knit community of a Cornish village. This first book concentrates on Kara Moon who at 32 has just left an 8 year romantic relationship and is questioning her next career move . Through it all, she is surrounded by caring friends and a loving family. I loved her grandfather . I do think that he was the best -written character. I wanted to love the book more than I did since It is exactly the style of book that I enjoy. I smiled and cried at times ;yet I hate to say but "something" just missed for me and I cannot define why. It is exactly the type of book to which I usually gravitate.I am really torn whether or not I will buy the next book even though I did like Star. Perhaps it was some mood issue fault of my own and I will give the next book in the series a chance. I am sure that many people who enjoy small town stories will like it. The community of characters is lovely and I believe that the second book can read more smoothly since the reader will be familiar with all of the inhabitants.

I absolutely loved this book following the life of Kara Moon and her family.
It is set in Cornwall with Kara loving everything to do with flowers. She ideally wanted to do a floristry course but turned the offer down as she felt compelled to look after her dad. She had a boyfriend who was no good and eventually after he cheated on her she threw him out and gained extra money by renting her spare room as an air b & b.
So much happens in this book and is such a feel good read. It I was really great getting to know Kara and her family.
This is the first of a new series of books by Nicola May and you really shouldn’t miss it.

Can I start by saying I want to go to Ferry Lane Market?
I want to meet this cast of characters; colourful, caring and complicated!
So, we have Kara, a woman stuck in an eight-year-old relationship, that is going nowhere, with barely the finance needed to stretch to living a little, outside of paying her mortgage.
She's in a job she loves, but without the appreciation from her boss, even that shine has dulled.
Surrounded by people who care about her, she ends up on an adventure of a lifetime, after kicking Jago, her useless, cheating boyfriend, to the curb, to find her true path,
I really enjoyed immersing myself in the world of the Ferry Lane market, and it was fantastic to read about a woman, just past what people would say was the prime of her life, finally finding her feet, her passion, and some love, along the way!
And I'm looking forward to reading more about all the fantastic characters in the books to follow!

This is my first book by Nicola May and the first in this series ……. I really enjoyed this book I did wonder where it was going to go at one point but it took a big leap and kept me wondering what was going to happen to these characters. The characters were well written and very likeable, I am looking forward to reading the next in the series and seeing where these characters are going

This one is about a girl, Kara, who lives in a small town in England and after a bad break up starts figuring out her life and priorities.

When Kara’s out of her horrible relationship, her family and friends start encouraging her to stand up for herself and start living the life she wants - the side characters were nice and warm, I felt May did a great job creating Kara’s support system through Grandpa Harry, Joe, Pearl, Star, Frank and Billy.

I loved the small town setting and all the quirky people in it, it seemed like a community full of heart and a place I’d like to visit on market day.

That being said, I struggled to engage with the story line. I think it took way too long for the first postcard to arrive and get the story moving, by the time it did I’ve lost a little interest, to be honest.

I’m sure there will be people that will love this one, but I went in expecting a faster-paced journey and it fell a little short for me.

I really like the book cover but initially, I was a bit skeptical about the book. This is the first book I have read from this author and seeing many raving reviews about this book, I was not disappointed at all! In fact, I enjoyed reading this book! This is the first book of the Ferry Lane Market series and so I was glad I got this opportunity to read the first book!

Meet Kara Moon--who had dreams of attending a floristry school but decided to remain in her hometown, working in a floral stand taking care of her father. So when her boyfriend cheats on her and uses up all her savings, she uses her spare room and invites foreigners to use the room. Then she gets a mysterious post card along with plane tickets, prompting on her to travel on a world adventure--from New York, Australia to Spain.

I thought the plot was cute and cheesy. Kara Moon is actually a very likable character in my opinion. The writing was good and engaging making the reader drawn into the story. I like Kara's relationship with Billy and I also like the community relationship with each other in the small town in Cornwall. Through the vivid descriptions of the story, I felt like I was also a part of the story and travelling around the world with Kara as she embarks on this adventure. Overall, it is an enjoyable read and I can't wait to read more books from this series!

Kara, dumps her boyfriend after he’s cleared all her savings and cheated on her. As she’s in need of money, she starts renting out on Air BnB. After a bereavement in the family she receives a postcard, which lead her to three trips which change things in her life, each one, she learns some very valuable life lessons.

Set in a town called Hartmouth and is based around the infamous Ferry Lane Market, Kara works as a florist. I felt the feeling of the community was very well written. Kara and her friend Star along with her grandfather Harry, not to mention her cat James were lovely characters.

I was guessing the person of the postcard and plane tickets, and guessed wrongly. Leaving me surprised. The ending I thought was perfect and so want to read the rest of the series.

I found this was a lovely story of hope, friendship and above all family, made me cry in places as well as laugh.

Recommend this.

First book I have read by Nicola May. I loved the pretty cover which appealed to me, and the storyline. But it was spoilt for me by the swear words used, I am sorry to have to say.

It has all the ingredients for a lovely summer read, combined with a chilled beverage in hand it’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon or two.

They say that no man is an island, and I say nor is Kara Moon. It takes her a while to realise that she is being treated like a mug and has the catalyst to react, but when she does, she goes all out. Not easy to do on your own but Kara has the whole community behind her, family, friends and a handsome man who would fall at her feet, if only she would have him.

When grief hits home, an unexpected surprise takes Kara on the trip of her lifetime, where she reunites with friends, makes new discoveries and banishes old ghosts.

But having walked out on her job, when she returns home, how is she going to make it own her own?

I loved Welcome to Ferry Lane Market, Kara's journey and the cast of characters. I have not read anything by Nicola May before but am looking forward to discovering more of her work and the communities she has created.
