I was lucky enough to get my hands on a sample of Witchshadow by Susan Dennard ahead of its publication and it blew me away! Though it was a struggle to remember what led to certain events at times, reconnecting with some of my favourite characters was so fun!

Here are my favourite reasons to pick up the book:
Iseult is in the spotlight
More than any character, this is Iseult’s book to shine. Finally comfortable with her powers, she is determined to see this through and find Safi. It’s that determination that carries her through the thick of it and shows how far she’s come as a character compared to the beginning of the series. While never as brash as Safi, the two begin to resemble each other as their desperation to reunite grows once again.

We explore Safi as a character
Unlike Iseult, Safi gets quieter. She’s learned a lot over the course of her journey and she applies all that to escaping her latest situation. She’s cold, calculating and far more patient than Safi from the first book but she also stops to consider those around her. Her world includes more than Iseult now and her actions reflect this.

The relationship between Safi and Iseult
Their friendship continues to be at the heart of the series. After being separated early on, they’re desperate to be with each other again and it’s a feeling that shadows their every chapter. It’s rare to see this kind of friendship in a YA novel, and even rarer that it doesn’t get overshadowed by various love interests, so I loved that Dennard kept this going to the end.

The expansive world
Yet again, Dennard expands her world throughout the story. While the snippets of history hint at a far greater overarching plot to the series, there isn’t enough to fully satisfy. Instead, this keeps readers guessing and eager to turn the page. Like previous books, Dennard adds to her world, making it even more expansive and immersive.

An unexpected relationship
When two characters were thrust together at the end of the last book, I didn’t expect much to come from it. However, Witchshadow develops their relationship into something akin to friendship. Each character slowly drops their walls for the other, hinting at the possibility of a much deeper connection between the two. Since I was delightfully surprised by who these two characters were, I’ll be keeping them nameless to avoid spoilers.

There are many reasons to pick up Witchshadow by Susan Dennard, but these stood out to me. The writing continues to be fast-paced and dynamic while the plot looks to be so exciting. This latest installment of The Witchlands series has a lot going for it and Dennard lets the reader know from the very first chapters.

I’m absolutely hooked and I can’t wait to get my hands on the full book soon!

I loved the writing in this book and I feel like it is my favourite book in the series so far.

As always I love the relationship between Safi and Iseult and how they will do anything for the other. While a lot of times I do not enjoy too much politics in novels, I felt as though the politics in these novels to not tend to drag on a much as others and it keeps you invested in the story and wanting more.

The end of this sampler left me wanting more and I cannot wait to see how the rest of the book pans out.

I need more right now! I love this series and can't wait to continue reading when I get my physical copy. Only a few more days to go.

After reading the other three Witchland series books, Witchshadow was a little nervous, all the horizontal plots were happening constantly, and it was a bit difficult at first. But when the story begins and becomes meaningful, it is not so nervous as it is on the exciting side. Since these are extended chapters, more exciting content can be shared, which makes the story more interesting. This is why YA fans like me like Y Fantasy novels. The Witchland series is very popular at our youth book club meeting, and the very exciting and fascinating conversations started from them, I hope there will be no less when we read Witchshadow.

Fans like myself have waited for a very long time for each book from this series. The world is ever expanding. The recurring characters are so rich. I need to reread the other books before the full version of this one is officially in my hands.
I remember fangirling over this series with my best friend in a lounge at uni. I am looking forward o doing the again with her!

This does have both a past and a present storyline, which took a second to get used to. But that was a small thing. I loved every second of this (actually pretty large) sampler.
But that cliffhanger was evil. I need the rest!

Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness... I NEED MORE! Ugh, I love book samplers but hate them at the same time as they give you a little taste of the book and readers are dying for more! Witchshadow is no exception! Within the few chapters that I read, I am hooked! I CANNOT wait to get my hand on the full novel to find what happens next! Fantastic read and ugh outstanding sampler!

I cannot wait for this book to come out!! The story Susan Dennard is SOO richly woven and stunning. I love the magic in these books!! And I NEEEEED to know what’s gonna happen with Aeduan! He isn’t fav!!! Well second only to Iseult, who is a badass by the way!

Oh wow! YA fantasy books are relatively new to me, and this character-driven series is really setting the bar high! It was so exciting to get a taste of this descriptive story and I cannot wait to read the full book!

This was a really great sampler! It was much longer than I expected, but I was so thankful for it! I really enjoy The Witchlands series and was super excited to continue on with the series. It was a little annoying that I got super invested in this and then the sample was over, but I'm happy that I only have about a month-and-a-half to wait for the full book.
