This is a riveting and compulsive addition to an excellent series and in this extra fast-paced instalment, we are thrown into the middle of all of the action and suspense from word go. We continue to learn more about Olivia and her complicated and unique personal life among the stresses, strains and hard work of her job as a lawyer/attorney. It is an enthralling, mystery-laden and engrossing read with a great mix of police procedures, legal shenanigans and personal trials and tribulations. Highly recommended.

This is the second book in this series.I really liked them both. This book is a great "who done it" mystery but there is family dynamics, romance and alot more to keep everyone's interest. Great plot and interesting characters. Hope Olivia and Brian come back in a third book.

Teenager Ebby Engstrom witnesses a murder – and then passes out. The next morning, he wakes in his bed with no memory of how he got there, and is told his mother was stabbed to death the previous night. Thirty years later, the case has gone cold, with numerous suspects but no new clues – until Ebby starts having uncontrollable flashbacks to that night. As repressed memories surface, he questions his own role in the murder, leading to a dramatic confession and Ebby’s arrest.
Family friend and attorney Olivia Sinclair is convinced of Ebby’s innocence, but the only way to clear his name is to find the real killer herself. And it seems almost everyone connected to the Engstrom family had a reason to want Cynthia dead…

Firstly, thank you to the publishers for sending me a cop of this book and asking me to be involved in the book tour.

This book is the second in a series. It can be read as a standalone, but there I feel that the first book needs to be read to understand the back story. I will be picking this up.

The book is jam packed with interrogations and as a reader you feel like you are conducting the investigation with the police. The writer makes you feel that involved. The book has obviously been well researched with the legal jargon and the procedures. I love legal thrillers and for anyone who loves books like Gillian McAllister, this is a perfect book for you.

I read the book in one morning as it is a short book that is fast paced and very easy to think one more chapter.

I wasn’t shocked when the killer was revealed, but cant believe that I didn’t figure it out.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book.

I will look out for more by this author.

The second in the Olivia Sinclair series and every bit as good as the first, The Betrayal. This book begins as Olivia has set up her new business as an attorney with Brian as her investigator. Thirty years ago Ebby Engstrom witnessed his mother’s murder but woke up the next day with no memory of it. He is starting to have flashbacks of that night and hires Olivia, an family friend, to help with his repressed memories.......but someone doesn’t want him to remember.....another fast paced thriller that will keep you turning the pages!

After the release of The Betrayal last year, I’ve been looking forward to meeting up with Olivia Sinclair again ever since so I made sure to fit this second instalment in as soon as I could.

Just like the first book, The Witness is crammed with intelligent legal procedural and follows an interesting case that is tightly plotted and quick-paced, which you’re sure to enjoy at only 257 pages long.

I was hoping that this second book would go on to see Olivia joining the Truth Project so I’m disappointed that it doesn’t go in that direction. However, it’s a clever move by Thomas to introduce a character from Olivia’s past to keep the story personal. This keeps her emotions high, her dedication at the forefront, and her commitment ruthless.

It may not be a gripping or shocking thriller, but Thomas is an immensely clever writer and there are certainly some interesting twists to keep your interest running high. Mostly, it’s because of the relationship that I made with Olivia in the first book that I enjoyed this one so much. She’s a brilliant character and I would definitely recommend that you head back to The Betrayal if you missed out on it before, and then come back to this if you find yourself drawn in just like I did.

If you haven’t read the first book, then you may not be as invested in the story as I think it does rely on your support of the lead character, but Thomas is a great writer and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what Olivia and Brian get up to next.

The story has a good, if slightly familiar, concept. A boy sees his mother being murdered and then develops amnesia. Will he remember who the killer is or was he actually the killer himself? As an adult he starts to have flashbacks and pass out and we being to try and unravel what really happened that night and the darker complexities of the family and their hidden secrets.
The pace is neither fast nor slow and a good easy read with enough sub plots to be interesting enough. The ending is neatly tied up and therefore satisfying and the answers not too obvious.

Book Review: The Witness: Olivia Sinclair Series, Book 2 by author, Terry Lynn Thomas
ARC

A 30 year old cold case leads attorney Olivia Sinclair into a web of secrets, suspense and mystery as she dedicates herself to finding the missing pieces of a most unique case in order to clear the name of an innocent man.

The Witness delves into the connections between the members of the Engstrom Family, the depth of possible suspects and the search for clues that seem nonexistent~ but where it all leads, will surprise you as you're pulled into its descriptive scenes that keep on giving with the clever and surprising elements the author presents in a most intriguing and interesting way.

Terry Lynn Thomas will keep you guessing as she spins her compelling tale
of drama, haunts, flashbacks and edge of your seat twists and turns, as she pulls the reader into a place where the questions keep rolling and hooks you exactly when and where she intends to.

The Witness is a tense, gripping narrative that leads its reader to a strong and most satisfying conclusion that holds true to the genre it is meant for... A thriller that offers anticipation, excitement and surprise.

I thank the author, and NetGalley UK, for my copy of this engaging story which I recommend to anyone looking for a fulfilling, page-turning read.

Terry Lynn Thomas has written another page-turner in The Witness, the second book in the Olivia Sinclair series. We are treated to not just one, but two engrossing mysteries in this fast-paced book. The first storyline involves a decades-old murder, and the son of the victim who is haunted by fractured memories of thar night. The other plot revolves around a con artist who involves Olivia and her friend, a detective, in their twisted deeds. It was fun to catch up with Olivia and Brian in this book, two smart people, dedicated to meting out justice and defending the innocent. Although this the second book in this series, it is a great standalone novel.

I received in advance readers’ copy in exchange for an honest review

I requested this one on the strength of the first book, even though I prefer cheating husbands over dead moms as a murder trope, and while it took me a bit longer to get into it, once the thrills started chootling along it was hard to put down. The character Ebby really grew on me but if I’m honest I found Olivia returning a bit of a distraction- It would have worked better for me as a standalone- but all in all a good read. 3.5 rounded up.

At thirteen years old Ebby Engstrom witnessed his mother's murder. Since then he was diagnosed with dissociative amnesia. Ebby keeps having memories of the night of his mother's death and believes he is responsible. Ebby hires family friend and lawyer, Olivia Sinclair to help him.

This was the second book in the Olivia Sinclair series. I loved the pacing and the mystery. I enjoyed the romance between Olivia and Brian as well. I hope the author will continue with another book in this series because they are well written and very enjoyable. I highly recommend this book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ Digital for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Witness is my first introduction to the really rather clever work of Terry Lynn Thomas. I hadn't obviously read the first one in the family lawyer and attorney Olivia Sinclair series either. But, as the best authors always manage, it didn't matter! Thirteen year old Ebby witnesses his mother's brutal murder and then passes out. He awakens in bed the following morning with amnesia and a complete blank about the previous evening. Thirty years on and Ebby (short for Edward) still doesn't know what happened but he has stopped his counselling sessions and drugs and is starting to have distressing flashbacks about that night. He turns to Olivia Sinclair and her partner retired cop Brian for help with figuring out what really happened that night. Was Ebby the person who murdered his mother - and if not ... who did? I raced through this book over two settings in one weekend. I loved the camaraderie and developing relationship between Olivia and Brian - and the second narrative with Brian's girlfriend was particularly clever too. The rich and entitled Engstrom family was deliciously drawn and I especially loved Ebby's aunts Fiona and Eleanor. A wonderful, tightly paced, well characterised read about how family secrets always, always surface.

An excellent follow up. I love the main characters and the will they won't they vide that peppers the plot. Thomas is a craftswoman of extraordinary talent. More please.

First of all thanks #netgalley and #harpercollins for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This is book 2 in the Olivia Sinclair series. Olivia is a lawyer who has gone through a rough patch in her marriage ending with the death of her husband’s mistress, of which she was falsely accused, and ultimately in her divorce. Now in the second book she takes on the case of a family friend, Ebby. When Ebby was 13 he witnessed his mother’s murder. Now 30 years later his memory of that night is gradually coming back, and although he has confessed to the murder, Olivia is sure he could not have committed the crime!

I was quite intrigued by the blurb of this book. I’ve always been a sucker for the amnesia trope!
I felt the book could have been a little more intriguing! There were no ‘Aha’ moments or built up suspense in the story that manages to grab the reader’s attention. It rather reads as an investigation and court procedural that gradually leads to what actually happened that night.

I felt it to be a bit repetitive and slow paced. The main story failed to hold my interest whereas the second story involving Olivia and Brian, the private investigator, was much more engrossing! I also felt that Ebby’s general adolescent behaviour did not reflect his age (43) and was rather awkward to read.

Apart from that, as I said the secondary story and romance between Olivia and Brian was very enjoyable and I loved the writing. I also found that the ending was all well wrapped up and satisfying.

This is the first book I've read by this author and it certainly won't be the last. This story was packed full of secrets and mystery, I literally suspected everyone and I would never in a million years have guessed the ending. Brilliant. Highly recommended.

From the start I was soon drawn into the world of Ebby Engstrom and his family and, like Ebby, determined to find out who had killed his mother 30 years ago.

With the help of a family friend and former lawyer, Olivia Sinclair, Ebby re-opens the cold case of his mother's murder which he witnessed as a 13-year old. The twist, he can't remember happened and is soon arrested for murder.

Along the way, old wounds are re-opened as well as family secrets uncovered - what are Ebby's elderly aunts, Fiona and Elodie hiding from him; and what really happened on the night of the murder?

But just like in real life, things are not always plain sailing - Olivia has her own issues to deal with, like falling in love with her new business partner, Brian, who has got tangled in a mystery of his own with new girlfriend, Leanne.

There were parts of the story which I felt a little too convenient, like Olivia's encounters with the ADA on Ebby's case, and how that was concluded. Another was where one of Olivia's friends had connections to someone who happened to have dealings with some gold antique sovereigns that had belonged to Ebby's late father. That said, such coincidences do happen in real life from time to time.

Thoroughly enjoyed trying to work who, what, why and when as the story progressed, and look forward to seeing what Olivia gets up to next.

Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for an e-ARC.
