This book makes excellent use of descriptive language to draw the reader into the fantasy world of the main character's dream. Wonderfully drawn illustrations masterfully portrayed the story.

I did not get the opportunity to listen to the music that accompanies this story, but I love the idea of mixing mediums together. I enjoy music, and I know that music is a fantastic way to help students learn.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful, but I am concerned that some parents may find one of the pictures inappropriate. There is one picture showing a mermaid with no clothing over her breasts. If you are one who believes that issues like this are not a big deal, then please ignore this. If you prefer not to see frontal nudity in a book, even if it is on little girl mermaids, then you might not want to purchase this book for your child.

Even though I love the idea of including the music in the book, I will not be purchasing a copy of it for my school's library. Books with gadgets like this tend to get broken easily, and it is difficult to keep it in pristine condition for everyone.

I received an advance copy of, Captain Sofia, by An Leysen. This is a cute story about the adventures of Sofia. You can even hear music to accompany the story. The illustrations are really good too.

Ttruly loved this one! Where to start?
A girl pirate? The stunning illustrations that each page looked and felt like a painting? The músic that accompanied the book? The Info at the end about Beethoven?
Loved it so much and happy to add it to my collection for my little one.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

When Sofia lays down at night for bed, magical things fills her room. Whales, mermaids and a huge pirate ship to the music of Beethoven. Beautiful illustrations! I really loved them. I highly recommend this book to kids of all ages. Thanks so much #netgalley for the early review copy. Amazingly wonderful!

I love the idea of including classical music in children's books! Each page of this picture book plays a snippet of a song by Beethoven. The music was selected well; the music stirs the emotions like the score of a movie, with a different song for each spread.

Sofia is a pirate in her dream, and she has an exciting adventure! The words vary in format, making it clear to the reader when to emphasize certain words.

The illustrations are beautiful. They appear to be a combination of watercolor and colored pencil.

At the end of the book, there is a spread dedicated to discussing Beethoven's life and music. I appreciate the inclusion of music education in the book.

The music and illustrations were fantastic. I feel the story could improve a little, since it seems to jump from event to event rather jarringly. Overall, I really enjoyed this book.

I received a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing.

This was a cute story about a girl named Sofia and her imagination that would greatly foster that imagination in young readers/listeners.

I loved the music and how it plays with Sofia. She is fearless. She is girl. Loved it!

A special thank you to Clavis Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

A sweet story about a young girl with an active imagination.

A bit confusing when they add a section on Beethoven at the end. I think the book is supposed to have a music accompaniment with it and that would enhance the story, but I didn’t have access to it. Otherwise, cute and I liked that they made the girl Sophia a pirate in the book.

This was a nice book about a young girl who imagines being a pirate, but there was nothing really unique or intriguing about it. It is supposed to be a music book, but I could not use that feature with the ARC so that may add something special to the story. I do see at the end of the book there is information about Beethoven and the classical music pieces included in the book... Not sure how that goes along with the pirate story. I do appreciate the author having the girl be a pirate instead of the typical boy, and children who are very into pirates would probably enjoy this story.

Great read aloud for all your kiddos! This book has wonderful illustrations, simple text, and a sense of adventure any armchair traveler will love. As the mom of a little girl, I also really love that the protagonist is female.

A cute story about little Sofia and her vivid imagination. Once she closes her eyes at bedtime, everything she imagines becomes real to her.
Children will become engaged in the story as they board the pirate ship with Sofia.
What adventures will they have? What will they see?
Beautiful, eye catching pictures.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

Review: An educational picture book that combines the power of imagination, along with the excerpts of Beethoven’s most famous pieces. Sofia closes her eyes every night and is magically transported to a different adventure. Tonight’s adventure is Captain Sofia, the bravest and most terrifying of all pirates in the seven seas. Each page offers a glimpse into another step of her pirate adventure, along with one of Beethoven’s musical excerpts to build the emotion and power of the story. She faces another pirate, a sea monster, and even a mermaid on her quest for treasure.

There are additional pages included after the story to highlight the life of Ludwig van Beethoven and the final page allows the reader to see all of the selected music in one piece, along with the name. A wonderful choice to instill the love and wonder of music, along with the power of imagination.

Note: I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is my own.

This is a lovely story about a dreaming who has big imagination. She does incredible and empowering actions that remind young children of simple solutions to solve problems and also realize when we do bad things.

Because we read an eGalley, we were unable to listen to the audio clips. It will be wonderful to hear the sooty with clips from Beethoven’s body of work.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC of this book. I like the illustrations and kids will definitely find it attractive but it doesn't have that much appeal for me. It's an easy read but may be I was looking for a book that can make more impact for me.

What an imaginative tale of a little girl and the adventures she goes on in her dreams. The illustrations are stunning and fit the story beautifully.

I was granted eARC access to Captain Sofia via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a music book which will be sold with an album of classical music to be played track by track as the story calls for them. I imagine the experience of listening to this music at the appropriate times might improve the experience of this book, but my ARC was only the digital book file, and if this book is purchased as an ebook after release that's probably also all it will be, no music. Without the music, this is just an ordinary children's storybook with pretty pictures and a shallow plot designed to calm kids down for sleep at bedtime.

Captain Sofia is a little girl with a big imagination, and on this night she's a pirate captain sailing her pirate ship, swimming with mermaids, and seeking buried treasure. The story itself is cute. It's nothing particularly unique, deep, or special, but it will satisfy children of the target age and brings more life to the illustrations and music it accompanies. The illustrations are gorgeous!

I was not impressed with the typesetting in this book. The text is usually too small, except when particular words or phrases are being emphasized, in which case they grow increasingly in size and do odd things to the overall line height. The font chosen is not the easiest to read in italics, which are used frequently, and the small black text on mostly medium-toned blue backgrounds doesn't have enough contrast. It was difficult for me to read as a completely literate adult reading on a computer screen with the ability to zoom in, so I imagine it would make reading even more difficult for a child who is still learning to read or for anyone with dyslexia or similar learning disabilities.
