I feel awful saying this because of what the book was about, but I just didn’t enjoy it. It was a good story in terms of the importance of helping other women, but I just didn’t like any of the characters and so I struggled to get on board with it.

I really enjoyed this tear jearker from Emma Robinson who is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. Caroline and Pete separate aftwr the one of their precious son Jamie. Pete soon moves on to remarry Emily and she becomes pregnant with his son. Caroline and Emily's lives soon cross when tragedy strikes again. The book hits on serious topics such as post partum depression and is an absolute page turner. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the pleasure as always.

This was such an emotional rollercoaster of a read.
Caroline and Pete were married, their son tragically died and their relationship drifted. Pete still visited Caroline and spent a lot of time with her.
He has also recently got married to a younger woman, Emily, and she is pregnant.
Tragedy strikes and an unlikely friendship occurs.

I am not going to lie, I did shed a few tears through this book, it was raw and emotional and so real to life, I felt I was living the characters lives every time I picked it up.
It was written so well, I look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author, Emma Robinson for an early copy of this book for an honest review.

Caroline and Pete(r) were married and had a son, Jamie, who was their pride and joy, however Jamie died in an accident when he was at college. Their grief caused them to split up, and Pete moved in with his girlfriend, who later becomes his wife and gets pregnant.

Pete is killed and Caroline helps Emily when she ends up having the baby early. While Caroline's friends don't understand why she is helping Emily, Caroline steps in and helps Emily throughout the early days of being a mother, as well as being there for the baby when Emily can't be.

I love how the author not only hits on grief and motherhood, but also touches base on post partum depression and how the unlikely of people can become families.

I love reading any books by Emma Robinson, and can't wait for the next.

Whew, this was a complete heartbreaker of a read with many secrets and complex relationships, some newly formed between the past wife and the new wife. Brilliantly emotional, the book played with my mind and heartstrings, some didn't want to let go of me. quite an immersive read was this where the author developed her characters well over the pages. Completely well worth the tears that flowed right through.

His First Wife's Secret by Emma Robinson was just a brilliant book, then again I have loved all the books I have read by Emma.....The only thing I will say is they should come with a warning - You will need Tissues., Oh and don't start to read her books if you have something planned for that day or your just about to go to bed!!!! As like me I will need to keep on reading it till the end to see what happens!

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and will have you in tears so be warned!
Caroline is married to Pete but sadly they are drifting apart, after the sudden death of their only son........Pete soon moves on with his life and finds a much younger girlfriend called Emily. Pete is hiding a big secret from his wife that Emily is expecting a child. Then, there's a terrible accident and Pete is suddenly killed!
Emily wonders how she will cope without him especially as their baby is due soon. Caroline who is still grieving for their son, and now is grieving for her husband, finds the strength to go to Emily and support her and their baby.

Can Caroline deal with the grief of the loose of her son and now Husband and also be supportive to Emily? "She is so brave!"

Will the baby bring them together and help both of them to come to terms with their loose?

This is an emotional and a book of courage between women and if you love Jodi Picoult, Susan Lewis and Jojo Moyes books this is an excellent book for you.

Big Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and Emma Robinson for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

His First Wife’s Secret is the first book I have read by Emma Robinson. I knew going into this book that it would be heartbreaking, but I never expected the rollercoaster of emotions throughout this beautifully written heartfelt story about two women both lost in their own ways and yet both drawn to each other in ways unimaginable.

Emily is only just married when her husband Pete is in an accident and dies leaving a pregnant Emily’s world completely shattered. But Emily isn’t the only one grieving. His first wife, Caroline already suffered a devastating loss a few years prior. When Emily and Caroline meet for the first time a friendship of sorts ensues especially after Emily gives birth. But, both women are hiding painful secrets from each other secrets that have the capability of tearing apart their fragile friendship. Are these secrets too much for them or will they bring them even closer together?

There is so much going on in this story from death, depression, guilt, blame and so many more themes that are interwoven through this story. It all really lends a sense of believability and some themes are ones most can relate to especially mothers. This is not always an easy story to read and may even hit close to home for some readers, but the take-away from this story is such a powerful message and that is one of forgiveness and of growing.

This is very much a character driven book and being such I was really invested in both the characters of Emily and Caroline as they both suffered through different traumas and losses and had to learn how to cope in their own ways which may not always be the healthiest of choices, but it was definitely very relatable and told with brutal honesty. I may not have always liked what they did but I can see the reasons why. I think any reader, once delving into this beautifully moving story, can understand in some parts both of these women.

His First Wife’s Secret is a powerfully moving, heartbreaking, and yes at times uplifting story that will have you glued to the pages wanting what is best for two women who suffered terrible losses.

First Caroline lost her son, then her husband wanted a divorce. That would be bad enough to cope with. But her life shifts even more off kilter when she finds out both of them were keeping secrets from her when she learns about Emily and her unborn child. A great story about love, loss, betrayal and forgiveness that was beautifully written.

The death of a loved one is a difficult subject to write about yet the author has done it so eloquently with this book. Yes it’s about losing a loved one but there is so much more going on in the book too. There is love, loss, secrets, lies and eventually hope and new lives to live. A book I sat and read in one sitting as I felt pulled into the worlds of Caroline and Emily as they came together in loss. Compassion and gentleness filled the pages as tears and recriminations gave way to acceptance and hope. Family’s come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes they are fractured beyond recognition but loss made this family strong in the end. Proving there is a way forward and that while grief is all ways there it wont stay raw forever. Poignant and wonderfully written the book delivers a satisfying reward for opening its pages of a time well spent within the world of Caroline and Emily .

Oh what an emotional story this is. There is tragedy and heartbreak on several levels but the author deals with it in a sensitive way. It is not until near the end that the "secret" is revealed and it wasn't what I was expecting. A very satisfying ending to the story makes this a book that I am happy to recommend

A truly emotional story about loss and survival after losing a child. Caroline and Pete's son Jamie has gone off to university but tragedy strikes and he is involved in a fateful accident. When Pete moves out of the family home and marries Emily there is even more heart break ahead for all of them. Another brilliant book by this author, I haven't read a bad one yet.

His First Wife's Secret by Emma Robinson is an emotional read that will have you fully invested in the complex characters from the very start.

Caroline and Pete drifted apart following the sudden and traumatic loss of their son. Pete soon moves on with the much younger Emily, and the two are expecting a child. But when the unthinkable happens and Pete dies suddenly as the result of an accident, Emily wonders how she will cope with a new baby on her own, and finds herself receiving help from Caroline, a woman who is grieving the loss of her own son. Can the arrival of the new baby help to salve the festering wounds of the past?

This is an emotive and immersive read that benefits tremendously from the alternating viewpoints of the two women, each bringing a unique yet relatable voice. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

I loved this book and was instantly hooked on it. Thought Caroline was such a strong female lead, and loved how after everything she had been through and found out that she could still be kind and have others interests at heart.
Thought the portrayal of Emily and her depression was really well done, you cant help but feel for Emily, you just wanted to see her get better.
Loved the ending!
