I enjoyed this book, I thought it could’ve been better in some parts though. Had a lot of potential but the editing process just came short a little bit.

I liked the tropes and the characters, it just didn’t sweep me off my feet.

Hello

Apologies for the late notice, but I have decided not to review this title. While I am certain it's obvious by now, I wanted to also clear this off NetGalley, so it's not showing as open for either of us.

I look forward to continuing to work with you in 2023 and beyond.

A woman who can't stop going viral for the wrong reasons and a man looking for a fresh start collide in a slow burn small town romance.

I was excited for the story with lots of laugh out loud moments, fun and crazy characters and a quick read. I only wish the happy ending had wrapped up the almost sexy scene.

A great read if you're looking for fun, light, and a smidge of sexy time in your romance books.

DNF @25%

I tried giving this book a try two separate times. There isn’t really anything wrong with it, it’s just incredibly boring and I have no interest in finding out what happens.

First off, how cute is this cover? Secondly, this was such a cute book as well! I loved the small town setting in this book. It has great characters, humor, and a little spice. I recommend checking it out!

When I requested this ARC I didn’t realize it was a sequel so I had to get my hands on the first in the series, too. I binge read both of them back to back in 3 days. What I’ve concluded is that Anne Harper likes to write about awkward, relatable, strong, badass, unapologetically themselves women and the men who love them and I am Here. For. It! Nell was fierce and fun and wholesome and I loved being along for the ride while she totally stirred up Quinn’s world. The premise was cute, the shenanigans were fun and the characters were lovable. I need another sequel so I hope Harper isn’t done with this series. Next, please!

I really liked Anne Harper’s first book, Fake It You Make It. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this one as much.
Nell and her boyfriend have broken up on Valentine’s Day. When she goes to a restaurant and can’t get in because it’s couples night, she loses it and her rant goes viral. A handsome guy named Quinn asks her to have dinner with him, and she has a wonderful time. They have instant attraction and share a kiss.

When Nell goes to work, she meets her new boss - Quinn. It seems like it should be the perfect romcom, but the execution didn’t live up to the setup. It was charming but not my favorite. 3 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Unfortunately, this story was not my cup of tea. I love to get lost in a good romantic comedy, but this one fell flat to me... I just couldn't warm up to the heroine and the whole office romance missed the tension I expect in this kind of book. Basically, the only upside for me was the hero and he gets the 2 stars.

Nell and Quinn are two different type of people, who meet cute and then have an unexpected second meeting at work. The characters are cute together, the situations are fun and heartwarming and the ending was adorable. But i think the most interesting were the side characters, particularly Nell's siblings. I think they all would have made even more interesting main characters.

This one is a typical office romance. Without anything that could make me re-read it, I think I will just be giving it few stars and not perfect score.

4 Stars (I received an e-arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)

I read this over the course a few months and this book is what kickstarted my contemporary romance reading. Nell is definitely a bit over the top but it works with the some of the crazier aspects in the story. The meet cute that starts off the book has a some cringe , then slowly transitions to a lovely and slight steamy end to the evening. Thinking they probably won’t meet again the getting quite a shock learning they will be working at the same job. Quinn is a likeable love interest, having some trouble adjusting to the complications that come with small town life. Now there is an aspect of the plot that really rubs me the wrong way and that this one male character that is clearly obsessed with Nell. I don’t even care to remember his name but he basically stalks and blog about scandalous things ( taken without her consent or permission all of the time) But for the most part this was good romance novel with some meddling family members on Nell’s side and a couple of wild pig chasings.

In Like a Boss we meet Nell after a recent breakup. She has a meet cute with Quinn and it seems like the sparks are flying on both sides. Unfortunately, that's where the magic ended for me.

Like a Boss was full of tropes, a new one starting practically every other page for the first 20% of the book. We get the meet cute after a breakup, the viral video starring the lead lady (let me come back to that one...), a single Dad technophobe, with a small town, workplace, age-gap romance... I'm tired already just talking about it.

Had any one, possibly even two, of these tropes been present, I could have pushed through and maybe would have even enjoyed the story. But it was a mish-mash of just about every romance trope I've ever read and as a result just felt like it was trying way too hard. I had to reread pages to see if they actually made sense, and I was having a hard time suspending belief enough to actually go with the fact that it seemed this book had it ALL (and not in a positive way).

If you're very sensitive to spoilers you may want to skip the next paragraph, but I wouldn't personally classify anything as a spoiler. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Going back to the viral video, I had a really hard time believing that some teens would record a random video in a completely different city, posting it on social media causing her "rant" to go viral and making her the talk of her tiny town (and the entire Internet as a whole, as it seems). Not only does she become an Internet sensation from that video, but days later, while shopping for a new bra, the town paparazzi snaps a photo of her holding one in the ladies clothing store and posts it to his "online tabloid" causing her to become a whole new level of "Internet famous." Between questions from her sister such as "who are you buying that lacy black bra for," judgements flying at her choice of undergarments, and the fact that I grew up and have always lived in small towns and have NEVER imagined having an entire paparazzi and online tabloid just putting all the mundane gossip like this out there... I just decided enough was enough (or way too much) and had to throw in the towel.

On a positive note, if none of this bothers you, you'll probably enjoy the book. There's nothing functionally wrong with it, the writing does not have major issues, such as grammatical or spelling, and it does seem easy enough to read if you can get past the things I mentioned. So I'm very sure there is an audience for this book, I'm just equally sure it's not me.

A different story for me but a fun one nevertheless. It was a bit slow at times but besides that, it was enjoyable.

I feel like the description of the books mislead me. Yeah, everything happened like that but the kiss wasn’t as hot as I hoped, their relationship didn’t start as an office romance or enemies-to-lovers but more like let’s-pretend-it-didn’t-happen.

Quinn was likable. He hates anything that has to do with technology so that was refreshing. Nell.. well, she’s okay.

The story overall was rather dull. A couple of funny moments that weren’t really funny to me. There was one semi-hot scene but it was cut short when his son came home and it never happened again.

The end drama was made up by Quinn. Nothing special, really.

Small town romances are usually a hit or miss for me. This one is sadly a miss.

Long story short, I like my books steamier and this one is more ”couple pecks here and there” with that not-so-spicy scene. Not enough for me.

3 stars.

Loved it! I like the first book better but this one is good too and you can read it as a standalone. Super quick, easy, and fun read!

Unfortunately the characters got on my nerves too much and I wasn't able to finish the story. Just wasn't for me.

I absolutely could not stand the characters and I did not see any chemistry between them, two rather important failings for a romance novel. The writing was rather bland. The entire story, from plot to setting, felt unbelievable.

I'm sure there are people out there who will enjoy this book, but I was clearly not one of them.

This book is fine, but it didn’t excite me. It follows the patterns you expect for a romcom novel and doesn’t expand on them much. For me the characters did not have compelling chemistry and the story felt played out. There was nothing wrong with the book per se, but I was underwhelmed.

I didn't know what to expect from this story but I feel as though I wasn't disappointed. There were moments that fell flat for me but overall I did enjoy this book. I'll have to read the first book in the series!

This was a DNF for me. I tried really hard to finish it— I almost put it down two times before I finally decided to stop. I wanted to like this book, I really did, the summary was good and the first chapter was interesting but it just wasn’t working. Something was missing and I’m not sure exactly what it was, but I definitely couldn’t finish.

I didn’t put it down the first two times because the plot was super interesting and I still might go back and finish it at a later date to find out what happens because I am interesting but that just isn’t going to happen right now.

Thank you for the opportunity to review!
