Did not finish. Didn’t like writing tone. Wanted something different. Wouldn’t recommend nor buy my own copy.

This book wasn’t for me. I’m not necessarily the target audience being a woman in her 40s, but I thought it would give me some good ideas of things to talk to my pre-teen daughter about. I loved the idea of it but found it a bit boring. I really wanted to know what I should be telling my daughter - not the personal snippets.
I’ll probably try the book again when I’m more in the mood for non-fiction.

I received a free e-ARC from the author/publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Things My Mama Never Told Me is a guide for teens with advice and discussions about a variety of topics ranging from consent, to abuse, to body image.
It was a mix of personal anecdotes, sections with quotes and stories from teens, ideas for journalling/reflection, and the list of things the author wishes her mother told her.
While I thought it brought up a number of good points, there were some phrases and inclusions that I felt were not really appropriate, and possibly even damaging (especially in the section about homosexuality.)
I didn't think this was a bad book, but I would recommend that parents read this before passing it on to their teen girl.

Things my mama never told me was a quick informative guide for teen girls. It answered questions gave anecdotes and stories of young people along with valuable advice. This would be very helpful to teens and I would recommend this!
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the E-arc!

This month is women’s history month and it is also the perfect time to pick up “Things my Mama never told me!” Some of the wording seemed a little outdated (I’m not sure when this was initially written) but other than that I thought it was good especially since I prefer to read fiction over nonfiction!
