The first book of the Moonlight Mayhem series, Blue Manhattan by Kyra Jacobs set in the contemporary world, supernatural creatures live secretly among humans.

Jamie Knight receives a crazy ransom note from a douche bag named Mauricio had kidnapped his girlfriend, Violet. Jamie for saving her go to the bar full of creatures he wasn’t supposed to know existed and said aloud the name of Mauricio, who nobody dares to whisper it.
Shayla Tempest (Shay) is a Supe, you-know-who take her sister, Camille. She tries to allies a group of Supes who dislike Mauricio. With their help, she could save Camille.
And this is how an adventure between a human and a blue witch with orange eyes (Shay) began. This is not very easy for them both; Jamie should be around Avatar, Tinkerbell, giant wings, snarling beasts, and razor-sharp teeth. Shay believes there is nothing silly more than humans.

Overall, This was a humorous romance- urban fantasy book. An adventure story with a little much plot detail and constant mentions of sex. If you are a fan of this type of genre, Highly recommended.

Thanks to Kyra Jacobs and NetGalley for giving me the chance to read Blue Manhattan by Kyra Jacobs in exchange for an honest review.

I thought I had read this author before this book, but for some reason I hadn’t. Anyway, I was sure I was going to like this, and boy did I. Shay was an interesting character from the start. She’s almost too cynical, and at first her constant mentions of sex were grating. However, it wasn’t long until I saw past that to the fun character she is. Add in Jamie, and this book was a wild ride from beginning to end. I was not fooled by a little plot detail that some people were put off by. I think that was a mistake and will turn off some readers if they don’t finish the book. Other than those, I thought this was a great book, and I am ready for the next one! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Witches, goblins, gargoyles, trolls and fairies to the rescue. I’ve been in the biggest book slump in the history of forever and Blue Manhattan has been the book to end that.

“My apologies. You’re the first human male I’ve been around in quite some time. I can’t help but be…curious.”

In a world where humans wander around oblivious of supernaturals and never the twain shall meet, Kyra Jacobs kicks off the first in her Moonlight Mayhem series with a fun, sexy, entertaining story that pulls you in right from the start. And with the world-building and momentum picking up pace with each chapter and an eclectic cast of characters featuring, there is never a dull moment.

“Is that a pixie in your pocket, or is someone happy to see me?”

I loved Shay and Jamie together and whilst their romance was by no means left unfinished, the overall story still has so much potential, left open for more and I’m absolutely here for it. Particularly if it involves a pixie channelling Cyndi Lauper vibes and a grumpy gargoyle.

(sigh) I hate starting a review with "I wanted to like this, but..." so here's an alternate way to say it.

Why?
This is a book that's fundamentally about the existence of an entire race of "supers" (elves, witches, goblins, etc.) of which humans aren't even aware, and a kidnapping in that world by a mob boss in that world, and how it dips into the world of humans as it plays out. THAT story should have been enough, and the author clearly has the talent to make a full-of-twists storyline and full character development. I liked THAT story. The humor was clever and I liked that aspect of the characters.

But, as I've seen in a couple of other books that I've come across lately, on top of all that was layered a distracting, constant, and completely unnecessary theme completely focused on a sex. It just didn't fit with the story, really, at least for me. There was plenty of story and character development without it.

I mean, ok, perhaps I'm a prude. But I'm not a kid: I've read erotica (like Anias Nin) in my life and can appreciate how that very basal need drives character development. I'll confess I've never read a "romance" novel (the kind with a chiseled dude on the cover), and so maybe this is all just "the way it's done." But you don't NEED to do this to keep reader's attention. There were two interludes that I would call "soft porn." The book just didn't need those 6 pages and the constant reminding that she was lusting for him, he wanted to thrust this or that here or there.
Maybe I just missed the point.

More subtly, I didn't believe that men think of some things in the way the author wrote the main male character's thoughts. When he's temporarily been transformed into a yoda-like being one of the first things he does is check down his pants. Really? Before he bothers to wonder if this is permanent? When he sees things aren't as he expected down there, he's angry this took his "manhood" away. I can't imagine most men would immediately check his pants first, see a "missing" dick on his new small green body (note: his ENTIRE BODY is now small and green!), and think "she took my manhood away!" How about "holy crap! I'm small and green!"

If you take away the graphic sexual thread (dare I say "driving" sexual thread), this could have been a completely entertaining book. The idea could certainly have been there without being so graphic and accomplished the EXACT same story development.

This is the only book I've read by this author, I don't know if this is her style or what. I just found it disappointing. 2.5 stars, but I'll give it three because of a clever story twist at the end that I hadn't thought of.

*I received this book as a gift in exchange for my honest opinion.

Wowza!!! I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. In fact, I didn't even read the blurb because I love this author so much, I KNEW she'd take me on a journey no matter what. And I wasn't wrong.

If you've read this author, you know that she's responsible for some of the best Dragon book out there. But this isn't like those book. Nope. This is a completely NEW type of story for this author. We're talking witches, goblins, fairies, yetis....you name it, they're in this. Ok, you might even see a dragon or two along the way.

Since this is potentially the first book in a series, it takes a little while to "get going", if you know what I mean. There's a lot of "set up" that has to take place in order for things to start falling in to place. But once that starts to happen, you won't be able to turn the pages fast enough.

Shay is a spirit witch that has been hiding among other supernaturals instead of facing a few things that needed to be faced centuries ago. Vague? Yep. Because you have to read this to understand....I digress...But then along comes a human named Jamie. Normally, Shay would dismiss humans and go about her business, but considering it looks like she needs Jamie in order to finally confront her past, exceptions will be made....more than once.

If you're up for a fun, sexy and adventurous journey, pick this up, you just might start believing in supernaturals.
