This was such a fun read! Told entirely through Slack instant messages, the story was gripping from the first page as we learn about the office and its inhabitants. The side characters and the daily happenings of both the physical and digital offices are just as interesting as Gerald's predicament within the slack server. Observations on life and love in the digital age sneak their way between the humor and hijinks of the various Slack channels. Kasulke provides us with a realistic account of modern office life with a science fiction-esque twist.

This book is comedic brilliance at its best, A novel written entirely in short spurts of text as if one were in a chat room with everyone trying to get their thoughts in before it's too late and the conversation takes a sharp left turn is a concept that is unlike any I've come across before and it is perfectly suited to right now. This is how we communicate and, as the book shows, earn our paychecks.

Dripping with satire, sarcasm, wit, and real world scenarios this will have you laughing out loud and nodding your head with understanding sympathy. Surprisingly this is a story within a story which I truly loved.

I cannot recommend this book enough, whether you work from home, communication via group chats socially, or just need a lighthearted laugh this book is for you!

Calvin Kasulike has pulled off a premise that is highly underrated with swift skill and understanding of social behavior when hidden behind a screen he has gifted us with something that is sure to form a large cult following.

Thank you to netgalley, publishers, and Calvin Kasulke or granting me an early access e-copy in order for me to provide my honest unfiltered, unprompted review. I'm so grateful I was given the opportunity to read this now, as it was exactly what I needed. Chances are, its what you need as well.

This one was incredible. The premise was so interesting, and I was not at all disappointed.

I also loved the side love stories, which definitely added to the enjoyment of this novel.

Calvia Kasulke perfectly captured the daily minutiae of an office and exactly what a Slack chat is like.

This is an innovative and compelling look at how we work today. We learn about a public relations firm, its leaders, its employees, and their work all through their Slack messages. The author takes this high concept one step further by focusing on Gerald, who has found himself uploaded to the company's Slack. As Gerald balances his work and trying to understand his predicament with seeking to escape, he develops deeper relationships both with the Slack AI bot and his co-worker Pradeep. At the same time, his other co-workers are navigating the day-to-day drudgery of their work, including inscrutable bosses, unclear client requests, and various office romances and alliances.

This book is both creative in structure and insightful in its assessment about the nature of work today. I tore through this, intrigued by both the narrative and the often laugh-out-loud takes on a type of office life.

Highly recommended!

A book written all in slack channel messages! With lots of emojis and gifs! And slackbot is a (consequential) character!

One the one hand, this feels a bit like a gimmick that will be really dated in a decade (remember those epistolary books written all in emails? Or texts?). On the other hand, there is a lot of depth to the office relationships and this pretty much accurately describes 80% of my daily communication over the past year at work, so it feels like it captures the moment of how Slack and MS Teams help shape office culture (for good and ill). On the [third_hand.gif], there are also some fun fantastical / SciFi / existential elements that slowly creep into the narrative as well. And sometimes it's hard to tell what's more absurd - these fantastical elements or the experience of early 21st century knowledge work. Love this book, literally LOLed several times, and highly recommend it!

It would be impossible for me to recommend this book enough. Hilarious, especially for those of us remote Slack users.

I enjoyed this highly amusing book tremendously. The author does a fantastic job telling his story entirely through Slack conversations. I cannot recall a book that I read so quickly and eagerly in quite a while. Given the "work from home" world we now live in this was even more appealing to me. In fact, if I and any advice for the publisher it would be to move the publication date forward. My thoughts on this is that you really want folks to find out about and read this book while they are still working from home using tools like Slack. I found it more amusing and pleasant because of the past year of working almost exclusively through similar shared workplace tools. I fear that come September a lot of people will have returned to work and this may not seem as appealing. Overall, a thoroughly entertaining book that put me in a better mood than anything I have read during this pandemic. Thanks!
