This was so easy to read & kept me on the edge of my seat. It hooked me in from the start - Owen disappears one day, but leaves a note for his wife, asking her to protect his daughter. I loved how the story was told in the present day, but with some flashbacks that reveal important information on who Owen is. As Hannah & Bailey got closer to figuring things out, I just wanted to read faster! This was a fast paced & gripping read.

I could not put this down!!! One day Owen does not come home but sends a note to his wife Hannah with the words ‘Protect her’ in reference to his daughter (and her step-daughter) Bailey. It transpires that Owen’s software company is embroiled in a fraud investigation and Owen ran as soon as he got word that this might happen. What follows is a search by Hannah and Bailey to find Owen and along the way Hannah realises that there is a lot she does not know about her husband. This is a fast-paced compulsive read. I cannot wait to see it adapted for screen!

Ooh this was intriguing and full of mystery. Very cleverly written and well-paced, this kept me guessing all the way through. How well do you really know your husband? Thrilling stuff.

When Hannah's husband Owen disappears one day, he leaves her only a note saying 'protect her'. Immediately he knows he means Bailey, his daughter, but unfortunately Bailey is 16 and not really inclined to trust her new stepmother. When news comes out that the firm Owen works for is being investigated for fraud she starts to realise that Owen hasn't been completely honest with her. And so, over the course of a few days she discover just how little she does know about him and soon she has to make a decision which will affect all of their lives.

I enjoyed this book. The plot wasn't too absurd (although there are bits where you do have to suspend disbelief) and the characters especially Hannah were well rounded. It's an easy read, enjoyable and would make a great TV series. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

I really loved this gripping thriller and couldn't put it down. The main characters are appealing but realistic, which makes it very easy to become completely engrossed in their situation. The story is a clever one, and I certainly didn't guess the ending. I would definitely read other books by this author. Even the typo - chaise lounge for chaise longue didn't irritate me too much!

I received a free review copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest and unedited feedback

'Protect her' the only thing written on a note to Hannah from her husband before he disappears; has he run from his problems or has something more sinister happened? I was so invested in this gripping story that I read the whole thing in one sitting. A fast paced domestic thriller with plenty of twists and turns - compulsive reading

A thoroughly enjoyable thriller, and I enjoyed following the clues with Hannah as she tried to work out why her husband had disappeared leaving her in sole charge of his sixteen year old daughter. An interesting storyline, some very tense scenes, lots of surprises and characters to like.

The Last Thing He Told Me

From the moment I started this book by Laura Dave, I couldn’t put it down. This is an intriguing and well paced mystery that held me in suspense from the first pages until the last. I was only a few pages in when I was hooked.

The main character is Hannah who is an independent self-established woman in her late thirties who moved from New York to Sausalito, California to be with her new husband Owen and his 16 year old daughter, Bailey. Hannah feels Bailey’s resentment at the intrusion of the life that she and her father shared for so long, an exclusive duo but from the very beginning of the book we see that Hannah attempts to show Bailey how she can trust her with baby steps and claiming small victories in winning her trust. The two must rely on one another when Owen disappears, leaving only a note saying “protect her”. Hannah and Bailey begin a journey in which they try to figure out where Owen could be and why he had to leave. The more Hannah and Bailey search they come to understand that most of the things they believed about Owen and his past just don’t add up. They don’t know who to trust and question if they really knew Owen at all.

This is more of a character based novel and delves into the relationship between a new stepmother and her relationship with her prickly stepdaughter. I particularly liked Hannah’s character. I like books with a great dialogue and characters that seem believable and likable.

Thank you to NetGalley, Serpent’s Tail and Viper Books for the advance copy of this very enjoyable book in exchange for my honest review

This is a good book overall but it is definitely one for a tv show. It’s full of twists and turns and I can already just imagine the characters. I really enjoyed it. It is well-written but I wonder if the author had a tv show format in mind whilst writing!

This is the first novel I've read by Laura Dave and I found it to be a beautifully written, gripping and compelling read. It has a great premise and I loved the female characters. It's full of unexpected twists and turns that for me was reminiscent of the best of Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC

Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy. Hannah's husband Owen disappears one day leaving her to care for his daughter Bailey. He left Hannah a note saying protect h her. Hannah and Bailey set out to find him putting themselves at risk. They uncover some shocking facts from the past including Owen and Bailey are not who they thought they were. A gripping thriller highly recommended.

The Last Thing He Told Me is a suspenseful book following Hannah, who's husband disappears and leaves his 16-year old daughter in her care. She soon finds out her husband has been living a lie for many years.

I really loved this book! It is my first Laura Dave book and she pulled me in straight away. Her writing technique is amazing. This book definitely didn't take the direction I thought it would, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Hannah was an amazing character, she was tough and strong, she didn't crack once even though her life was in ruins. She stayed strong for her husband's daughter who she knew didn't even like her. I think she was a brilliant protagonist and the way she narrated the story including the flashbacks really gripped me.

Bailey was your typical teenager and I'm so glad her character arc came full circle. She blossomed with thanks to Hannah and I think the loss of her father and finding out her life was a lie, really helped her grow into a sensible young woman. It was lovely to read.

The ending was very satisfying for me, although I can see why some may not like it. I loved that Bailey and Hannah eventually created an amazing relationship and I'm happy Hannah got to see Owen again. This book was brilliantly written and I will be thinking about it for a while. Kudos to Laura Dave!

Protect her.

Owens last words to his wife Hannah before he disappears without trace. Why has he run? Why has he left his daughter behind? What secrets has he been hiding? Hannah and her step daughter Bailey set out to discover the truth and bring their family back together again.

This had me hooked from the first page and I found myself picking it up whenever I could. A gripping, well paced twisty thriller. You don’t know who to trust or which way to turn. Some decisions you make can change your life irrevocably. Can Hannah do everything possible to save her family?

Highly recommended read and well written. I hear there’s a TV adaption planned which I’m looking forward to.

Thank you to Serpent’s Tail/Viper/Profile Books and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you for this ARC in return for an honest review. This wasn’t the fast paced thriller I was expecting, i found it fairly slow paced. I liked the developing relationship blossom between daughter and step mum and the characters are all likeable. It was a quick read and enjoyable. This is my first book by this author and would read a book of hers again.

I absolutely loved this book. It had me hooked from the very first page. It was full of twists and turns and I really felt as though the characters were believable and also likeable. It's hard to write a review without giving spoilers away but the plot of the story was unlike any that I had read before and I just wanted to keep on reading. Five stars!! Will definitely be reading more by this author.

This thriller was to my tastes. The person that has disappeared is a man. The danger seems real and believable. The red herrings make sense. Very twisty and I enjoyed the ending.
