This book was just so... meh. I like the idea of it and the silliness, but the text was not fun at all and I cannot imagine the little ones will have the patience for it either.

This fun book! I love how it shows that when we try not to think of something we are actually drawn to thinking about it.

Cute, would probably work well for kids who like the silliness and interactivity of The Book with No Words and The Button Book. The art is great, that was the part that charmed me (LOVE the burned bits), the story is on the simple side but clever enough that it will be a winner for a lot of audiences.

This Book Can Read Your Mind is a fun and colorful interactive picture book that employs reverse psychology (more specifically a technique called "mind suppression control") to "trick" readers into "making the next page appear." The plot is simple: a scientist has developed a mind-reading device and wants to try it out, but it only works if you DON'T think of super silly things like pink elephants - and absolutely not pink elephants doing super silly things! I think that children and adults will have a good time reading this book together and laughing about all the silly pictures and how they can't NOT think of the silly things the scientist is warning them against! I also really like that it's a book about actual science and is educational about psychology but does so in a super goofy way without children realizing what they are learning. It's one of those books that children might think back on when they get to college and start learning the actual material, and realize "oh cool, that silly pink elephants in underwear book was actually about this subject!"

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

Interactive picture books are a great way to get kids of a wide variety of ages engaging with the text. This one encourages a great deal of silliness. Starting with a simple suggestion, thinking of elephants, each page takes it a step further with the scientist warning us not to think of a thing that would make it sillier. Careful readers will note how the scientist becomes visibly flustered with each change. The illustrations are in a muted color palate, further softened by the lack of black outlines.

This was a fun book that engages the reader with a lot of silliness. The illustrations are bright and engaging. I think many readers will find it entertaining. It would be an excellent book in a classroom, but also great at home.

This Book Can Read Your Mind by Susannah Lloyd was an instant favorite of my daughter. It is fun, a quick read and made both kids and adults laugh out loud. The illustrations are great and the story is delightful.

The publisher made a copy of this book available via Netgalley. This review is my honest opinion.

LOL. Just the right book to finish my day! Us adults won't understand how this book works, but surely children will. Because they do what they're not supposed to do. And they will have fun reading this book.

And how fun it would be seeing the scientist went crazy because of something they do while reading the book.

In a way, I love how this book will encourage children to dream more, absurd ones doesn't matter. Kids really need to imagine something us adult would be scared to dream, or even think about. But they do need to see a better world through their imaginative way, so their heart will be set upon doing something better.

This is a fun and silly picture book that I think kids will really enjoy. I think it would work equally well for a group storytime or a one-on-one read. Kids will definitely appreciate the humor and the colors.

The title captures your attention and draws you into this wonderful silly story. Can this book REALLY read your mind? This is the second picture book by Susannah Lloyd, author of "The Terribly Friendly Fox".

This fun book stars a scientist, a herd of very responsive pink elephants and a clever machine that can read your mind... or can it?

The Scientist warns you to only think of sensible things and never, ever anything silly like a pink elephant, a group of elephants, a mouse who appears out of nowhere, elephants gallivanting about on unicycles or playing tubas, or wearing (gasp) underwear, just to name a few. And of course that's exactly what you imagine and voilà they appear on the next page. Kid's will love the fun romp through this book and giggle they will... guaranteed.

The illustrations are quirky and marry perfectly with the text. It is a clever idea for a book and works well. It's absurdity and hilarity will want kids to read it again and again.

A funny play book for kids. It has scientist, his lab and his ideas. You need to see it and simultaneously avoid imagining a pink elephant. And try to stay focused on not thinking about that. A cartoon playbook that kids will certainly like.

Who doesn't love a pink elephant? but what ever you do DON'T think about it. Stop! No Pink Elephants! Okay, who was thinking of a pink elephant after I told you not to?

A solid story time offering, ready to get a group giggling. Also, an excellent book to recommend to families/grandparents who are doing remote read-alouds.

I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books through NetGalley.
Hilarious for adults to read and kids will enjoy it too. The machine in this book is set to read the reader's mind. Of course the scientist accidentally plants the first silly thought by giving an example of the silliness that is not allowed. From there, it's a humorous read as the pink elephants are turned loose until the machine can't process any more.
Appealing to a wide range of readers at a variety of levels. This will be a terrific read aloud for families and classes.

This was definitely not what I expected, but it was so cute. I love how the title brings in this idea that the book can read what you are thinking. Kids would really love this one because it is energetic and it was like reading one big magic trick. The kids would be excited and laughing along with this one because it was cute and quirky. I found it to be funny and entertaining. The kids could be easily fooled by this and feel like the book could possibly be reading their mind even though it says the image and then that makes the reader think about it, therefore the book can read. your mind.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for an advanced electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

The scientist is testing a theory: he can read your mind. He knows exactly what you're going to think of next, just based on the conversation you're having... but what happens when things get a little out of hand?

This book was short and sweet and would be perfectly funny for an elementary-aged child who is willing to be a little silly. I read this book with my 6th grade homeroom class, and one student volunteered to do silly voices for the scientist, while a few others were ready to be the "sound effects" in the story if it became necessary. This story is lighthearted and entertaining, and I definitely recommend it! Reading this surely put a smile on my face.

This book relies on the premise that if someone is told not to think of something, chances are it's the first thing they'll think of. This leaves the narrator in increasing levels of chaos which make for a very entertaining story! In addition, the illustrations are brilliant; really bright and engaging. This book is sure to get children and adults laughing.

I really enjoyed this book and it was funny.

The illustrations were well done and they really worked well with the wacky plot!

It was one that gave me and my daughter a giggle as we turned the pages – you didn’t know what was coming next – great way to get the kids interacting too and joining in with the story.

It is 5 stars from me for this one – a brilliant read and loads of fun – very highly recommended!!

This book is just an absolute read aloud joy from start to finish. It is funny, engaging and just wonderful. As soon as we had got the end we wanted to read it again. No better recommendation than that! I think children, parents and teachers everywhere will just love this book and it will make everyone who peeks inside the cover giggle and want more. Fabulous.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for making us giggle out loud.
