Every child is familiar with popular fairy tales. What they have not experienced is the science behind what can actually make fairy tales true and real. Fairy Tale Science gives children the chance to experience fairy tales in a new and fascinating way. Each fairy tale is followed with a great scientific explanation and experiment. Each experiment is clearly laid out and the explanation is in terms children will understand. The only negative would be that some of the experiments seem to be very simple and not as interactive as others.

This is a very unique book that blends 25 fairy tales with science to explore the facts behind the magic.

I enjoyed the "Explore the Science" sections and learning some of the cool facts, such as different types of poison that could have been used on Snow White's apple, how human hair could support their weight of a person climbing Rapunzel's hair, or if a person could die from pricking their finger on a spinning wheel like Sleeping Beauty's.

Although I personally wasn't a fan of the tale retellings, I think they will appeal to many young readers, and kids often aren't familiar with some of the traditional tales these days. I think educators could definitely use this book in their classrooms to promote some STEM learning during a fairy tales language arts unit, and it's full of great information for nonfiction-loving readers. There's an extensive glossary at the back to explain terms used in the book, and I think it would be a great addition to a classroom or school library.
