An interesting story about depression and it’s effects not only on the one suffering but those around them. The sample chapters really do pull you in and make you want to delve deeper into the minds of these characters.

I was very intrigued by this after reading the synopsis only, but after this I’m SO EXCITED to read the whole thing! It seems to have all kinds of things I want in a book, not to talk about a STUNNING cover!

Starting with things I liked:
Trigger warnings at the beginning of the book! I firmly believe authors and publishers should include trigger warnings at the beginning of every book, so it was nice to see them here.
The setting. I enjoy reading about small towns, especially small sea towns, so I was enticed by that.
A bisexual main character! (although I am a bit iffy on this one, because Harlow introduces his queerness by talking about how he has a lot of flings, so I'm not sure if it's the best representation of bisexuality)
Unfortunately, after the first few pages, I just didn't find a ton of things I enjoyed. I mostly didn't like how the book immediately dives into the storm and the situation with Tommy, as there is very little background to it, and it just really makes no sense. I was very confused for most of this, and while of course it's only a sampler, and I assume it makes more sense as you keep reading, that's how I felt. The book also introduces a ton of characters very quickly, and I found it hard to keep track of them. I also didn't like how it makes environmental activists and activism seem like a joke, I just didn't understand the purpose of that.
It has some potential, but I honestly don't think I'll be reading the full book.

What a haunting and atmospheric chapter sampler! The Sea is Salt and So Am I is descriptive and mysterious, revealing dangerous secrets within a trio of friends and the trials of being a small town on the coastline. I really enjoyed the writing style, which carefully unveils important details about the characters and hints at the plot. The prose is vivid and draws you in. I love the title and I’m curious to find out the deeper meaning behind it. I will definitely plan to read this book when it comes out! The Sea is Salt and So Am I releases June 8, 2021. Thank you to Cassandra Hartt, Roaring Brook Press, and Netgalley for a free extended chapter sampler in exchange for honest feedback.

I absolutely cannot wait to read this book when it comes out! The sampler really draws you in with the characters, the setting, what I'm sure will contain lots of character development, and that stunning cover. June can't come soon enough!

The sampler was amazing. I liked how the author introduced us to the main characters but enough information has been withheld about their backgrounds to make me want to continue reading to find out what happened in the past. I am looking forward to being able to purchase a copy of this book to finish reading it.

Gorgeous cover and I loved the art work in the beginning showing March.

This is easy to start, not slow at all but jumps right in to smoothly letting you meet both the town and the small group of boys. Smooth, that's the best word for the writing - it's easy to read and perfectly describes a coastal town without too many words. I can almost smell the sea air and perfectly picture the precarious house.

I read an extended excerpt and now I can't wait for more!

I am super excited to read The Sea Is Salt and So Am I and reading this sampler just made me more excited. Can't wait to see what happens to our main characters - Harlow, Ellis and Tommy - after the sampler ends.
