I loved the characters in this book and enjoyed their relationships. I was engaged throughout, learning of the women’s wartime efforts. This was very good historical fiction.
Many thanks to Scribner and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

4 cheerful stars
I’ve read many books about World War II. Cheerfully Yours continues the fresh tale of a women’s magazine reporter in this fascinating time period. From the publisher, “Every bit as funny, heartwarming, and touching as Dear Mrs. Bird, Yours Cheerfully is a celebration of friendship – a testament to the strength of women and the importance of lifting each other up.”

I particularly enjoyed learning about working women’s issues during the war, such as childcare in Britain. As in the first book of the (I’m happy to learn) continuing Emmy Lake Chronicles, I delighted in the fun chapter titles. Emmy’s first-person narrative draws the reader like friends sharing a ‘cuppa’. There is a little bit of romance, but the short honeymoon is only described as ‘glorious.’

Witty and warm, I recommend Cheerfully Yours for fans of historical fiction who are looking for something extra special. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Yours Cheerfully is a follow up to Dear Mrs. Bird and and I adored this read just as much! Set in WWII England, the effervescent Emmeline Lake has found herself a bona fide member of the staff of Woman’s Friend magazine. She gets drawn up into the women’s war work effort and works tirelessly to assist in the recognition of the issues these women face as they attempt to support their country and their families. I’ve read a lot of WWII Historical Fiction but few of my reads have focused on the women’s side with their obstacles and stories. This is definitely a must read for any HF aficionados!

I loved Yours Cheerfully much as I did Dear Mrs. Bird. Emmy's pluck and sweet disposition is such a breath of fresh air and I really enjoy a WWII historical fiction novel that is unlike anything else in the genre. AJ Pearce seems to create her own genre, uplifting historical fiction. This book has Emmy continuing to use her position in publishing to help the war effort and we get a much closer look at her realtionship with Charles and with Bunty. One thing that baffles me in both books is the seemingly random capitalization of words. I would love to know from the author what that's about.

What a wonderful followup story to Dear Mrs. Bird. This is book 2 in the Emmy Lake Chronicles and it carries on in London, 1941. Mrs. Bird has left the magazine, Woman's Friend and Emmy is ready to fill her shoes. She want's the stories to be helpful to their readers with up to date info that is relevant to the war efforts. Bunty and Charles are back to help Emmy in her quest. This is what you would expect from this author, great characters handling war time situations and surviving. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I am thankful to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book. Let me preface the review by saying I have not read the first book Emmy appears in, but I certainly will. She's a great character and I enjoyed her forays into investigative journalism, especially in such time as the second World War. Wonderfully written, charming characters. Delves into the struggles of the people on the home front, particularly war widows. Trying to work, raise a family, and mourn the loss of their soldiers, they developed friendships and fought for equality all the while.

This is a great continuation of the novel "Dear Mrs. Bird" which was very well received at the book club meeting. Now to learn more about these characters and become familiar with this specific part of British WWII history has been a great experience. Can't wait to put this in the hands of my historical fiction readers!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an e ARC of this book.
A rather light hearted telling of women working for the war and the part a woman journalist plays in promoting the war effort. I have not read anything similar and I found it interesting and the characters very likeable.

I'm such an advocate to keep the memory of WWII alive and this book shares a light in lieu of the atrocities of war. I wish I had read Book #1 of the Emmy Lake Chronicles "Dear Mrs. Bird" before I had requested this one, but it is what it is...
In London, 1941 brought a time of need to families as their husbands were at war. So many of the jobs men had filled were assigned to the women, so where does that leave the children?

Emmy takes on a position as a columnist for Yours Cheerfully in the Women's Friend Magazine. Her and the staff make such a delightful team and I laughed aloud at their escapades. A difficult time for all, but you will find humor in their efforts and circumstances.

As columnists, one of their jobs was to encourage women to work in the factories...the same factories that supply artillery to their husbands. With little empathy for their plight, doing the same job, less money, still man the house and take care of the kids making it ever so difficult to keep up. Once the jobs were filled the demand to appreciate them became centerfold.

Emmy and her best friend Bunty take to their column to get the public's attention. Their first priority is to get childcare so the ladies can continue to work. With help on the way, protests and chanting, these ladies know how to get the attention and assistance they need. Such a heartwarming story to read, sure to bring tears to your eyes and a chuckle to your soul.

Thank you, NetGalley, for this awesome ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading and listening to “Yours Cheerfully” - the sequel to the equally enjoyable “Dear Mrs. Bird” both by @ajpearcewrites and was thrilled to hear Anna Popplewell (Susan from Narnia) narrate once more.

These uplifting and charming novels follow the plucky aspiring journalist, Emmeline Lake, and her escapades in London during World War II.Both books are funny and heartwarming, along with being a testament to the strength of women during an incredibly difficult time period.
Make a note to have tissues on standby, as some moments will have you in puddles but then you’ll be cheering on Emmy, her best friend Bunty and a bevy of new friends as they make their mark to help in the war effort.

I do hope there’s more to come in the Emmy Lake Chronicles - as she is quickly becoming one of my favorite literary characters.

Pearce returns to the home front of Great Britain, the world of Women's Friend magazine and friends Emmy and Bunty. With Mrs. Bird a thing of the past, Emmy Lake is overjoyed to be in charged of the advice page along with the experienced Mrs. Mahoney. Editor Guy Collins calls upon Emmy to attend a ministry meeting for the press. There, they are encouraged to help enlist their female readers in war work and then Women's Friend is off and running. Emmy befriends Anne, a newly widowed young mother who is headed off to a munitions type factory and becomes one of Emmy's contacts for her series of stories. The home front during WWII has been written about often, yet it never fails to interest me. Whether I am trying to imagine my own relatives lives at the time or just fascinated by the minutae of daily life, this story really fit the bill.

I was really looking forward to this book after reading Dear Mrs Bird and I was not disappointed in this one in the least. It was a very good plot and story. The writing was really well done. It was one of those books that I really had to just keep reading, not wanting to stop.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley.

Maybe if I had read the prior book I would have found these characters interesting. Unfortunately, I was bored by both the characters and the plot. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. 2.5 stars

This was a DELIGHT!

I found myself enjoying this sequel even better than the first book. Yours Cheerfully picks up right after the first book ends with Emmy Lake dealing with the fallout of secretly inserting letters and responses that Mrs. Bird found absolutely unacceptable. This time, Emmy is on the adventure of a lifetime- researching and writing about an official assignment about the women's war effort.

I absolutely adored the banter, the jokes and the heart of this novel. I can tell Pearce has really tightened up her writing and I enjoyed every single page in this one. I laughed out loud and teared up at the end when dear Bunty danced. I have come to absolutely adore these characters. Their time in life gave me a reprieve from the harsh reality of the world today and how often kindness goes such a long way. I highly recommend this one and hope Pearce will write more for this series.

Delightful wartime story of women in the newspaper field. The characters are warm and loving, ,while showing their grit and determination in those difficult times.

Emmy is back… with a new directive: Use the magazine to encourage women to join the military effort. But her research and interviews find that these jobs in shell factories and the like are not as inviting to women as they should be. Important issues have to be addressed, yet the male managers could not care less about child care… Emmy sees this as an opportunity to both promote the cause at home as well as enact change.

But don’t forget Bunty and Charles (there may be a wedding to behold:)))

And don’t forget about Pearce’s delightful writing… Yours, Cheerfully stays true to the tone of Dear Mrs Bird. Light and witty, but with enough seriousness to keep you on your toes.

I do have a couple criticisms… and I know it’s probably doesn’t work historically because I believe this part of the war didn’t see London bombings as frequently. I loved Emmy’s time in the fire brigade, and she is still a member, but Pearce doesn’t feature as many scenes as in the first book.

Dear Mrs Bird is a book I bought for two friends; I liked it that much. And if you liked Pearce’s first offering, I would encourage you to pick this new novel up also.

4 out of 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Scribner, and the author for an advanced copy for review.

I loved Dear Mrs. Bird and couldn’t want to read the sequel. The same things I loved about Dear Mrs. Bird rang true in Yours Cheerfully. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and the heartache and resiliency of WWII stories always captures my heart, but I just adore the charming character of Emmy Lake. There is most definitely still heartache and resiliency in her stories, but it’s told in such an endearing way that you’ll finding yourself chuckling at Emmy one minute and then in awe the next minute at the depth of the emotions you feel.

This is such an enjoyable read. If you haven't read Dear Mrs. Bird yet, read it first. You won't be disappointed!

Emmy Lake has returned for a 2nd book and a regular gig answering letters to "Yours Truly". This book spends very little tine at the fire station but loads at the magazine Woman's Friend and with a new group of women who are working at a munitions plant. Emmy is put in charge of writing an article helping promote the recruitment of women in the war effort, in so doing she meets a group who work hard but struggle with childcare. Emmy's first attempts to help the women backfire so it's on to the next.

Bunty and Charles are integral to this book and keep Emmy grounded and moving forward at the same time.

It's an easy read but very enjoyable and a good sequel to Dear Mrs. Bird. I cared about the characters and for me there is no higher praise!
