I don’t usually read women’s fiction but the title of this book really called out to me.
As a mom, I found myself really interested in this story.

Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes is a love story but one without romance. I love a good friendship in a book. The friendship between Lauren and Jude, our MCs is the kind we all dream about.

I really loved this book. I enjoy reading about social media influencers (it’s so interesting) so having two of them was fun!
As a mom I definitely loved it from a mom perspective. I do have to say you don’t have to be a mom to enjoy this book!

This was my first book by Alexa but I look forward to reading more!

Do you have a favorite podcast? Several of my favorites are What To Read Next and Sharon Says So.

This is a story of two childhood friends. One is Jude, a fitness influencer, and the other is Lauren, a single mom to 5-year-old Addy. I think Addy was my favorite character.

There's a lot of humor and snark in this book The two friends start a podcast. Each friend is dealing with their own problems and they are struggling to connect with one another. Overall this was a fun read though I had to question some of the decisions that Lauren and Jude made. The book also addresses some serious topics such as mental health, alcoholism and racism.

Thank you to Berkeley and Netgalley for an e copy of this book

Opposites attract. Jude and Lauren are as opposite as they can be, yet they are sister wives, living together, living life together, and finding their way in the world together. Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes is the story of social media influencing, friendships, toxic relationships, alcoholism, and custody battles. There are many tough topics within the story, but they are all handled with respect and care.

I felt like the story was real. It told about the difficult life of single motherhood, overbearing mothers, and true friendships. The social media aspect hit home since I have a blog and use social media often. The characters all had flaws and they were not glossed over. Their stories were told, their lives were shared, and together they could overcome anything.

This is the first book of Alexa Martin’s I have read but I will be on the lookout for more.

I received a gifted galley of MOM JEANS AND OTHER MISTAKES by Alexa Martin for an honest review. Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review!

MOM JEANS AND OTHER MISTAKES follows Jude and Lauren who have nothing in common apart from a nearly lifelong friendship. Lauren is a single mom trying to raise her wonderful daughter Addy who has an absent father only recently starting to come back into their lives. Jude has had some insta fame as an influencer, but her relationship with her also semi-famous mother creates some extra strains on her life and her finances. With both friends facing difficult times, they decide to enact their childhood dream of living together. Jude can help raise Addy and they can both help each other make ends meet. When additional challenges come up in the form of Addy’s father, both of their challenging mothers and more, the heat is on.

I found this to be a fun read, though I at times struggled with both Jude and Lauren and their decisions. We get alternating perspectives from both of the women and there were quite a few times where I just wanted to beg them to communicate or make different decisions!

The women decide to launch a mom and womens’ lifestyle podcast in their plans to improve their lives and this is a lot of fun getting the mixed media of the podcast’s emails out to its growing fan base. I also really enjoyed seeing the strong relationship between the women even through the ups and downs.

This was an overall fun read! MOM JEANS AND OTHER MISTAKES is available now!

I love Alexa Martin's previous sports romance books, but this newest women's fiction title is absolutely outstanding! Two women, long-time best friends, each face a multitude of problems in their lives and decide to live together to combine their resources and support each other. Add in the simply adorable five-year old daughter of one. This book has emotion, humor, and heart, and is highly recommended.

Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes is about best friends, one of whom is a single mom of a 5 year old and the other is a never been married, childless social media influencer and for various reasons, they move in together and start a podcast called Mom Jeans and Martinis. It is a very cute story about friendship and motherhood and finding your way through all of the bumps along the way. While there are pop culture references and witty commentary on the over the top mom world of bento box lunches and matching outfits, it also tackles real life issues of racism, alcoholism, toxic relationships and custody battles. It was heart felt and heart wrenching at the same time with a swoony romance. I really enjoyed watching these women look inward to grow and find themselves as the story progressed and the broad spectrum of issues covered in this book was done so well.

I loved this book! The friendship and support that occurred between Lauren and Jude was beautiful. Both characters had their flaws/issues they needed to grow through which made the book feel really authentic to me. I loathed the mean moms and was on team Jude when it came to them. I adored Addie and her fabulous little five year old self…she’s going places, y’all! I really loved Hudson and his sweet heart. But the best thing about the book by far was Lauren and Jude’s love for each other. Showing us that sometimes family is what we create instead of what we are born into. And Mental health is top priority ❤️

Thank you so much to @berkleypub and @netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review!

A novel about friendship, love, and family? Sold! I’m a huge fan Alexa Martin’s NFL romance series, Playbook, and while this novel is not a romance there is plenty of love to be had on its pages. The friendship between Jude and Lauren is the kind of friendship that women dream of and probably rarely ever get. It defies all of life’s changes, marriage, and children. Jude is Lauren’s biggest fan and the feeling is absolutely returned. Of course, there is a lot of conflict in this novel as well, but just as in a romance, these ladies do get their happily ever after.

Who is my favorite character in this novel? Adelaide, of course! This five year old little girl has an old soul and enough sass to fill a swimming pool! Her character was such fun to read and added some much needed humor to the drama. I totally want Adelaide to star in her own young adult, new adult, and adult contemporary novels. She was a hoot!

I love how Alexa Martin shares her perspective through her characters. Her romance novel couples were of mixed race, and this lady friendship is between a white woman and black woman and Jude’s character speaks to the things she’s learned about racial inequality and how her best friend Lauren has been treated in her life. Jude is a mouthy white woman who doesn’t have a problem calling out injustices on behalf of her friend, despite Lauren not wanting to bring attention to them herself. This is a fictional novel but that doesn’t mean that the reader can’t learn by what the characters go through. Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes had many such moments.

If, like me, you are a fan of Alexa Martin’s you’ll probably pick up this novel. If you’ve never heard of Alexa Martin I think you will enjoy reading this story about overcoming obstacles while having a good friend by your side. These characters were easy to identify with, root for and love, plus there’s Adelaide, the star of the book. LOL!

❤️❤️❤️❤️

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for my honest review and it was honest!

Jude and Lauren have been best friends since they were kids, so it’s no surprise they are finally becoming roommates like they’ve planned for years. What is surprising: that they are doing it now when they are in VERY different stages of life. Lauren is newly divorced and now a single mom, Jude is single, kid-free, a social media influencer, and a bit of a hot mess. Will their townhouse be big enough for all their baggage?

What a beautiful and real story about female friendships. I’m sure many of us can relate to those awkward times of being in a different life stage than many of our closest friends. These characters were SO relatable, and I’m sure every woman can see a bit of themselves in at least one of the characters. These characters were flawed and felt so real, and their growth was beautiful. Another plus of this book, allllll the millennial pop culture references were EVERYTHING.

Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

While, Berkley typically gives me steam and romance, this was not that and I still LOVED IT. This book is about friendship, balancing single motherhood and yourself, expectations of placed on millennials, grief and loss, and letting go of toxic people.

This book was hilarious as all Alexa Martin books are and had me quickly turning the page.

I loved the friendship of Lauren and Jude so much and how protective they are of each other how much they love each other. I MAY BE BIASED, because their friendship reminds me so much of my own with @brilikethecheese . She is the first one to scream in someone’s face for me (Jude) and I’m the first one to make her see reason (Lauren) 😂

While, this book shows the two main characters struggle separately with individual issues and there’s a bit of romance thrown in, at It’s core, it’s about people you’d just do anything for. This book is so special because it doesn’t focus on romantic relationships but the relationships of best friends and loving each other unconditionally but also holding each other accountable.

I adored these characters and this book and can’t wait for more!

Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes was one of my most anticipates reads. I have read and enjoyed all of the author's previous books. So I was beyond excited to see what she would do with women's fiction.

The book takes place in Los Angeles and alternates 1st person POVs between Lauren and Jude (28 year old best friends since childhood).

Lauren is a black single mom who works at an OBGYN's office. Jude is a Pilates instructor/ social media influencer.

I loved everything about this book. I love when there are super smart kids (5 year old Adelaide/Addy is amazing). I love reading about social media influencers (so much fun to see their lives). Both Lauren and Jude's moms have parts in this book. And I was fascinated by each of them. There is some romance but it's definitely not the main focus. But I still adored it.

I really enjoyed the author's sports romance series. But I had no idea what to expect with this book. This book is why women's fiction is my favorite genre! This book is about two women who are best friends. But they are not perfect. This book is emotional. Relevant. Wonderful. Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes is my third 5 star read of 2021. I loved this book so much!

Mom Jeans:

“Children and hangovers do not mix”

I loved Alexa Martin’s Playbook series (yes, I was late to the party, but man, I’m glad I am so glad I got to read them), so I was so excited to see she had another book coming out, Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes. To say Alexa Martin is an auto buy author is putting it mildly. I adore how Martin makes her characters so real and so relatable. I always feel like they could be my friends and I go through the same thing! I find myself agreeing or even saying an audible, “yup. I know that’s right” a few times while reading. I loved Jude and Lauren and this entire book!

Honestly, I can’t get over how much I loved this book. I felt so much for Lauren because I am a mom. Navigating kindergarten, applications, millennial mental health, blogs, podcasts, it’s all there. I cried a lot too. I know the overwhelming guilt she felt. I feel it daily too. I think it’s very important to note the differences in how society treated Ben, her ex, a white man, to her, a Black woman. Her story of preeclampsia angered me because of the medical gaslighting, and I knew it was someone’s truth. They may be functional characters, but they have stories that so many can relate to because they’ve been there.

Thank you so much Berkley for my gifted copy! Mom Jean and Other Mistakes is out today! (9/7) it’s a 5 for me. ❤️

2.5 Stars

Thanks #Netgalley @BerkleyPub #Berkeleywritesstrongwomen #BerkleyBuddyReads for a complimentary eARC of #MomJeansAndOtherMistakes upon my request. All opinions are my own.

In order to make it financially, Lauren and her five-year-old daughter move in with Lauren’s best friend, Jade. The two friends are different in most every way but they always have each other’s backs.

I appreciate the strong friendship and women supporting women themes and the snappy writing. There is a side of slow burn romance for Lauren, but it’s not a significant part of the story.

I admire Lauren and appreciate how committed she is to her daughter while also being a single mom and the sole breadwinner. I can understand the disappointments she’s faced in her educational journey, her career aspirations, and her previous relationship with the father of her daughter.

I’m not a huge fan of characters who are social media influencers, so I was less interested in Jade’s POV sections. Plus, she uses a great deal of profanity (F-bombs galore), so that caused me to skim most of her storyline.

Although the writing is snappy and the story is engaging, there were some plot points that didn’t make a lot of sense. For example, how can a podcast benefit you in a custody case? And, how did Lauren get into the custody battle situation in the first place when her mother is a lawyer. I realize Lauren didn’t have the best relationship with her mother but surely she could see the benefit of free legal counsel.

Content considerations: alcohol addiction, profanity

Fans of women’s fiction with strong friendship themes and who don’t mind profanity might enjoy this engaging story.

I've been enamored with Alexa Martin's writing from the first novel I've read of hers; her novels contain a great mixture of humor and emotion and friendship and romance. While Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes focuses more on the friendship aspect, there's definitely a nice dose of romance that is threaded throughout.

As noted in probably many other reviews, this novel is really an ode to female friendship. Lauren and Jude, lifelong best friends, become roommates for a variety of reasons, we come to learn. Lauren needs to escape her overbearing parents and has some financial constraints and Jude needs to escape her overbearing mother and also has financial constraints. Naturally, it stands to reason that they would room together, despite the obvious differences in their lifestyles--Lauren is a single, working mom working on some issues with her ex and Jude is a social media star, working through some issues with her formerly famous mom. Despite those differences, as it often does in real life too, their friendship works with and through these differences and makes for a sweet living arrangement. Until it doesn't.

One of the things I really appreciate about this novel is that it doesn't idealize friendship. It shows the challenges and strains that exist and the worries and concerns we all have when our friends are in trouble. It shows Jude and Lauren love each other and struggle with each other and how even best friends have challenges that aren't easily overcome. Rather than write a novel that romanticizes best friends, Martin shows the strength that a true friendship has, even with all of the missteps and dumb things we do to sometimes sabotage things.

I also enjoyed the ode to the repeated image of how powerful and wonderful being a woman, having strong female friendships ,and lifting up other women that this novel had. Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes was a slight shift from the novels Alexa Martin has written before and I enjoyed the experience.

I'm a huge fan of mom-coms, those books like Class Mom, Finlay Donovan and Agatha Arch that show women trying to juggle it all with humor, heart and over-the-top situations that are still remarkably relatable. This is another book I'd add to that genre and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

Lauren and Jude are besties and roommates. Lauren is a young single-mom trying to manage a life unlike the one she expected, while Jude is the Insta-famous daughter of a famous soap actress. Despite their difference, the two always have each other's backs.

The book covers some serious topics - custody battles, biracial relationships, alcoholism, bankruptcy, grief, emotional abuse and more - and it hit me in all the feels. @alexambooks' writing is sublime (her reference to FloRida and apple bottom jeans slayed me!) and I love how beautifully she showed the characters flaws as well as their growth. Also, I am all the way here for stories about women building each other up and this one had a moment that literally made me cheer. There's nothing better than ride-or-die female friendships, as messy as they can be, and this is one I won't soon forget.

Thanks to Berkley Publishing and NetGalley for a copy to review.

Yes yes to all of this.

I really really enjoyed this one. Like a lot. I loved how relatable Lauren and all the mom stuff was. There were a lot of great lines about parenting and small humans.

I also LOVED the relationship between Lauren and Jude. I loved seeing how they supported each other in life, parenting, and love.

This is such a wonderful story about the power of friendship and the challenges of motherhood. Definitely recommend.

Alexa Martin has stepped away from romance and penned a novel that is an homage to women and women's friendships. I absolutely loved every minute of reading this one, even though some parts did give me serious anxiety hoping for the best outcome for the characters.

This is the story of Jude and Lauren, best friends since they were young. The two couldn't be more different--Jude is a white, single social media fitness influencer. She loves the party scene and knows just how to present the best image, even if her life is a mess. Lauren is a Black single mother of five-year-old Adelaide. She dropped out of medical school to have her daughter, but she doesn't regret it because Addie is the center of her world. The two friends move in together and become each other's support system. But even the best laid plans sometimes run into trouble.

I could honestly identify with both characters in many ways. Although there are some cute and funny moments, there are also some explorations of serious issues. From dysfunctional parents to custody issues, alcoholism, racism (both overt and subtle), and the positives and negatives of social media. Although this cover makes the book seem like a light rom com, it's really not. It's about women finding their voices in a multitude of different situations and learning to deal with the past in order to move forward towards a healthy future.

Highly recommended!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Books for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest novel by Alexa Martin - 4.5 stars for a great read!

Jude and Lauren have been best friends since grade school. Jude is a popular Instagram influencer, stressing her Pilates workouts and looks. Lauren is much more serious and is a single mom to 5-year-old Adelaide. When both fall on hard times, they decide to move in together. When Lauren's custody of Addy is threatened, Jude helps her begin a mommy podcast.

This would be the absolute perfect book for a mom's book club because it's just filled with all the things you need to hear when you are in the throes of parenting. But it also delves into parent/adult child relationships, friendships, racism and women supporting each other. Throw in some humorous situations, a touch of romance and flawed but adorable characters (Addy!) and you have a winner!

“Therapy, man. Everyone needs this shit.”

Jude is an influencer who got her start from her moms fame. Lauren is her best friend who got pregnant at a young age, only for Ben to cheat on her and leave. The only good thing Ben ever did was give her sweet Adelaide, her five year old. When they both fall on hard times Jude and Lauren decide to move in together. Both Lauren and Jude have their own struggles though, and trying to be there for each other through them can cause some added stress.

This is the book I didn’t know I needed! A friendship rom com! I absolutely adored both Jude and Lauren, and Adelaide was a pure gem! This was my first Alexa Martin book but I can confidently say it will not be my last! I loved how relatable these characters were. I can’t think of a book recently where I have felt like the characters were so close to just me and my friends in both their relationship with each other, but also with their struggles. When I read the line quoted above, even though it was 1am, I immediately grabbed my phone to jot it down. Truer words have never been spoken. I have been feeling a bit burnt out on the romcom genre recently, but this book hit the spot I didn’t know existed! Highly recommend!

Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes tells the story of two best friends in their late 20s who are leading very different lives. Lauren is a serious and practical single mom and med school drop out who is in a custody battle with her once-absent ex. Jude is a bubbly Instagram influencer and pilates instructor. They've been best friends since 3rd grade and are, by life happenstance, roommates again now as they figure out how to navigate their adult lives, parenting, relationships, and family drama, which they explore by starting a podcast together called Mom Jeans and Martinis.

I enjoyed so much about this book. I loved how real the characters felt and I loved how the book explored serious topics such as parenting, family matters, grief, substance abuse, custody battles, race, and therapy. It touched on themes of reimagining dreams, navigating friendships, and self-healing. The main characters, Lauren and Jude, were beautifully developed - real enough to be approachable and relatable but wonderful enough to be inspirations to readers.

The only things I struggle with in this book was some of the writing style. I don't love things like banter in books, so some of the comments that broke the fourth wall didn't do it for me. I also found the supporting characters a little flat and felt the middle of the books had slower pacing than I'd like.

That being said, I think is was a great read and I'm so happy to have been given the opportunity to read it!
