Winters Rest by. K A Connolly

A rather slow going story didn’t think much of it to start with but out of stubbornness stuck with it. Not really about just one person but about a small community of friends living in a small town and winter ski resort. I originally thought it was all about Laura & her fraught family /past but rally that is just a small part of. At the beginning summer of the story didn’t seem really relevant but plodded on the second half did seem do much better I did get to grips with all whole package do to speak. Fortunately if you keep going it does get better. Showing sure souls we be without our friend and their support .

This book was everything I look for in a book. It was so exciting. The plot was fantastic. It really had me on the edge of my seat, and my heart racing. It was very well written and flowed well.

A feel good unexpected romance. The cover drew me in with all the snow and the cozy cabin. I enjoy reading cozy romances like this one and I am glad I gave it a chance. Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars
I really enjoyed this book i thought the story line was great. Its not often I find a novel with winter sports in and I loved it. Right from the start I knew I was going to love this book its not your normal soppy romance that you know they are going to end up together. I would of classed it more as a great general fiction. I loved the fact you could never guess what was going to happen next. It was a great page turner of a novel and I loved the cover. I also learnt alot from this novel and I found myself excited to read the bit about the ski racing. It has a great sense of atmosphere and tension in parts of this book. I love how the main character who had many issues to deal with throughout the story was able to pick herself up and carry on . Which I found inspiring.  I loved the fact that this book was centred around a bar/restaurant and enjoyed the elements around the experimental cooking. The ending was great and I wasn't expecting it .
Many thanks to the author and publishing team for creating a great book for us all to enjoy.

I enjoyed the several stories that this ran through but sometimes struggled with keeping up with who's who. Otherwise this was an enjoyable read.

I’m sorry to say it, but I DNF this book. I felt it was unfair to leave a one star review for a book I couldn’t fully finish so I gave it a 2.5. I feel like the summary for this book didn’t really explain much. At least, other than that there was practically no plot to this book.

A lot of other reviews said to stick with it and it would get better, but I just couldn’t make myself. One thing I did like, was that the characters were really relatable! I just wish I could have related to them more. That is just a fault on my end though, not the author’s; I couldn’t get into the book and that’s why I couldn’t connect to the characters.

As much as I absolutely HATE to say it, I don’t recommend this book, but that’s my opinion. if you feel you would enjoy this book, please try it! Just because one person doesn’t like it, doesn’t mean all will dislike it. I’m definitely not writing off the author and I may read future books of theirs, but this one just wasn’t for me.

This book is perfect if you are looking for characters with real day-to-day problems. Even though most of the story revolves around Laura, and from her point of view, there are many other points of view in the book from people around her. I would dare to say that this book is more about the community that Laura lives in than her story.

Overall, I like the book and the plot twist in Laura's love life, and I completely love the ending. However, beware that this book is slow-paced, so this may not be for you if you like fast-paced ones.

I had the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review, thanks to NetGalley and K.A. Connolly.

This book was a little slow to start for me. Going into it I didn’t realize it was going to be a story of several different people so that threw me at first but once I got into it, this book was good. I enjoyed this book and will probably read more from this author.

I loved how the author intertwined all the characters. I really loved Laura and how she grew and developed throughout the book. She failed at many relationships but we see her grow and eventually find love. Her friend April was probably my favorite though. I wanted to read more about her.

Overall a good book.

I was kindly approved a copy by the publishers and NetGalley for and honest review.

This was a 3.5 stars for me, and I am specifically rating it up as one of the only few other reviewers of this book rated it a 1 star without having finished the book which I think is quite unfair as it severely reduces the rating which will often prevent others from reading the book...

Now on to my thoughts...
I enjoyed reading this book. I sped through it in a matter of two days, and overall I'm really glad I stuck with it. I think the biggest issue was the slower start and what seemed to be a rather plotless first half of the book. I was slightly confused as to where the story was actually going, to be honest.

However...

I ended up understanding this book a lot more over time and I realized it wasn't a big drama book, or heavily plot-centered, but rather a window into this group of friend's lives. I loved the switching perspectives every now and then where we saw into the lives of people in the town, it kind of reminded me of the different perspectives we come to know in the TV show Virgin River. This book also dealt with characters overcoming problems they are facing in their everyday lives. Laura struggles with the loss of her father, the distance between her and her mother and her propensity for failing romance.

And I loved LOVED LOVED that this book wasn't predictable when it came to the romantic interest. I hated the guy, and I'm glad that K. A. Connolly knew who was best in the end. I especially loved Laura's friend April's perspective - her storyline was so intriguing and I loved her ending. I also really enjoyed hearing about Laura's work and her being employed in the medical office.

Overall, I really did come out of this enjoying it, I would have been more likely to give it 4-4.5 stars had there been a bit more to follow with earlier in the book that wasn't just the romantic interest Scott.

Thank you NetGalley, and K.A. Connolly for the digital copy of Winter’s Rest. This is my personal review.
I read this book but had to keep going back to make sure I could understand what exactly was going on. It was a slow book for me to read. The writing was OK but not one I would read again or suggest my friends to read. It just did not keep my attention or make me feel connected to the story line.

I couldn’t quite mesh with the writing in this book, unfortunately. The changing points of views with no visual clue as to who was talking was confusing and enough for me to not continue reading.

Winter’s Rest is an interesting novel with several characters running through it. I did find it to be slow and tedious at times.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
