A sobering page-turner that brings home the devastation and destruction of a wildfire, with a twist ending you won't see coming.

I love young adult mystery thrillers. This one had a lot of twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and I loved the mysterious aspect.

Kids do stupid things. They say stupid things and embarrass or disappoint their parents no matter how hard they try. It's life. No matter how hard the parents try to instill good ethics and morals free will is always going to be a factor.

When Hannah and her friends start a deadly wildfire their first instinct is to lie to save themselves and the futures that they each hold dear. A lie that will will quickly start to eat at each of them and turn them against each other, as quick as the spreading fire that they are responsible for.

Throughout the story you hear of someone wanting to do the right thing, but again and again being vetoed, no matter how much damage and destruction lays at their feet.

Filled with heartache and loss, this is an emotionally charged story that will have your eyes stinging with tears while sitting on the edge of your seat.

I found this to be a very enjoyable read! I was invested from the start, and I kept wanting to continue reading because I wanted to know what happened next! The snippets that are being fed to you are just enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, which I thought was very well done. I can definitely recommend this if you love a bit of a mystery!

The premise of this book was pretty good and I was engaged for the first part of the book, but the further I got into the book, the less I liked it. It was one of those read to get it read books.

Thank you Netgalley and Delacorte Press for a copy of this book for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lies Like Wildfire follows a group of friends who accidentally start a wildfire and must keep this secret between them all despite all odds and fissuring cracks in their friend group.

Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me. By 10%, I still couldn’t tell distinguish any members of the group from another except that one girl was rich and one girl’s dad was the … fire marshal? That’s probably the wrong term. That’s all I knew about them and I was reading the book and listening to the audiobook.

Content warnings for: animal death mention, terminal illness, fire, death, alcoholism, car accident (seems to be many more but I didn’t make it that far)

Someone compared this to Riverdale, and I could definitely see potential for that. I’ve never really seen Pretty Little Liars, but that’s the energy I was getting. 😂

Thank you to NetGalley for the digital arc copy, in exchange for an honest review.

It was an interesting premise, and had mostly realistic characters, with plenty of twists and turns. However, I just didn't love the story, and was disappointed by the ending. Still, many other readers will probably enjoy it more than I did.

This story started with a search and then moved back in time to show the reader how we got here. I liked the story line and I can relate to parts of the story. Strong language and sexual content, I could've done without in this book but only my opinion, being that this book was more geared towards young adult readers. For the most part for me, the book was a fast ride and exciting to find out what happens in the end. *This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGalley and I provided this voluntary review.*

This is a thrill ride of a book. A group of teens who call themselves "Monsters" set off a deadly wildfire. Then they start lying about it because they are afraid of the consequences. As the lies start getting out of control, one of them disappears and the tension gets intense. If you are a fan of mystery thrillers this one is for you.

Whoo this book it feel like two different book roll in to one and i don't know rather i liked it or not. You have a cover of one thing and a what happen story within this book that hard to explain with out spoiling it so that all I'm going to say on the plot. Now our Main character i didn't like she she played the victim card way to much and I'm not going to go in to why because it be a spoiler for the book but like come on now how this girl played everyone is just made her a person who i would want nothing to do with at all. This is a dark book and I will say it might be triggering a bit if you live where wildfire happen or has gone though that so keep that in mind going in to this book because a good bit is about an wildfire so with that said I didn't hate it but it didn't blow me out of the wall either so I'll give it a 3 star rating.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

I couldn't get into this one. It had an interesting plot but all the characters were stupid and annoying so I just didn't care what happened.

This book, and others like it, show that trying to bury your secrets/past (especially when it's an accident) will always come back to you, mostly tenfold. That doesn't stop them from being some of the most entertaining stories, though!

I was pleasantly suprised at how much I enjoyed this thriller.
In a way, the situation reminded me a little bit of the "I know what you did last summer" sort of MO.
The monsters consist of five friends. Five friends who accidentally start a wildfire that destroys home and lives.
Just as one of them is preparing to go to the police, she disappears.

Its a fast paced thriller that deals with complex and at times very unlikeable characters but that only made the book that much more insteresting.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC

Today I have a review for you that got me surprised. "Lies like wildfire" actually took me by storm. Before reading it I thought it would be a nice side read and then all of a sudden I was completely absorbed by this book. Tropes of guilt, lies, co-dependency, envy, and so much more mix together to create a suspenseful thriller. I also learned a hell of a lot about wildfires/bushfires and understood them in all their horror for the first time.
The writing style is great, the characters authentic, and it's really suspenseful. The first chapter starts with one of the group of 5 protagonists going missing. However, from chapter 2 on, the first half is about the wildfire that the five accidentally set and their feelings of guilt. The second half then deals with the disappearance and who might be to blame.
Definitely a recommended read for all YA mystery/thriller fans!

Lies Like Wildfire is a slow-burn thriller that will attract older teens & fans of Karen McManus. When a forest fire rages in California, Hannah and her friends who accidently started it choose to keep their involvement covered up. Can they keep the accident a secret? Or will their deception just make things worse?

I thought this book was just ok. I am usually a big fan of young adult thrillers. I didn’t really connect with the story that well or the characters.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of love triangles, Lies Like Wildfire somehow snuck it's way into my heart (and head). I really enjoyed all the twists and turns throughout this. Not everything kept me on my toes but it was a lot of fun to try to piece things together before the big reveal.

Of course, I should put my detective cap in full retirement because I'm horrible at it all. As for the toxic friendship? Well, yikes! They made me feel things and some of those feelings weren't happy. This group of monsters were true to their name. Even though they basically all grew up together they weren't very nice people in my eyes.

A lot of horrible decisions were made.. or at least that's what it looked like in my eyes. As for everything else? Well, I ate it all up! I honestly couldn't put it down because I just wanted to know what was going to happen next.

In the end, I definitely devoured this book and I can't wait for the next one Jennifer writes! Especially if she gives me more horrible people to somehow dislike and like at the same time. It was like watching a horrible car crash happening in front of me and I just couldn't look away.

..yeah, I need more of that.

This book was not all that captivating for me.

Considering the subject matter, I really thought this book would be engrossing and it was not.

Slow pace and I felt like the author was just detailing way too much.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing an e-galley for review. "Lies Like Wildfire" by Jennifer Lynn Alvarez starts off with a bang and then keeps coming. A group of friends are enjoying a summer day before everyone goes their separate ways for college and the unthinkable happens, they start a wildfire. That's when the lies start, or is it. This is a book that seems like one thing and ends up being something else and was a dark descent of obessession.
