Cowboy Christmas Legend was my first foray into the historical cowboy romance sub-genre, and I have to say, it is definitely not my favorite.

I really enjoyed the mystery in this story - however the romance between Cheyenne and Sam was a little cringey to me.

I really liked Cheyenne in the beginning of the book - strong and independent. However, as the story progressed, she becomes more and more homely. Especially taking care of the kids and baking.

When it came to Sam, I wanted to know more about his backstory earlier. But I also found his transformation from a brooding recluse to a family man who surrounds himself with friends.

This would have been a very sweet romance if it hadn’t been for the very awkward smut scenes. Honestly, while sweet and clean romances aren’t my go to, I would have enjoyed this one far more without the smexy scenes.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the gifted review copy!

Overall, this one was not for me... There were too many layers and too many plot holes, start to finish. It felt as though the author was trying to manufacture tension when really, this book could've been three separate books. On top of that, the children were ridiculously cartoonish.

There was a mystery element I enjoyed (that made for a great twist ending), but the romance itself was rather subpar.

The second generation of the Legends continues with a heartwarming story of two people that have given up on any chance of a happy ending for themselves finding one another and the love that will heal them. I sadly came to the Legend family a little bit late when they had already had their individual love stories (but I’m going back to read them now that I am hooked), but this second generation is really amazing to get into regardless, so I can promise if you are coming into this series never having read the previous series you’ll love them anyway. Sam Legend II has become a bit of a recluse, far from his family, living the life of a bladesmith and has very little need for human interaction. When he finds his home invaded by the sweet and sexy Cheyenne Ronan, a woman that he is sure is a little bit insane, he knows that his life has just changed irrevocably despite his every effort to get her out of his mind. Cheyenne has returned to her family home after a terrifying experience teaching apache children on a reservation and then working to help them reunite with their families. She never meant to put Sam’s life in danger, but the sexy bladesmith lights her fire and when her life is in danger steps right up to protect her. Sam and Cheyenne find themselves drawn to one another as danger mounts and there is no denying the attraction or the fact that if they can’t defeat the men after them, their second chance for a happy ending will never happen. I loved the fiery Cheyenne and seeing her standing up and fighting for not only herself but others made her a perfect heroine and the best match for Sam, as a damsel in distress was definitely not the type of woman for him anymore. She was intelligent, witty, caring, compassionate, and unknowingly sensual, making Sam nuts as she drove him to craziness and deep love. I also enjoyed watching her fight hard to heal Sam once she learned about his past and working to give him a new reason to live. Sam has obviously had his heart broken severely, but he is still a strong, caring, and passionate man and when he gets to know Cheyenne it becomes obvious that despite his past he isn’t really as dead inside as he always thought. His strength lies in his character and his heart, though certainly is also an ideal specimen of masculine beauty, and I loved seeing him come back to life and find forgiveness for himself and his past. The heat between these two was apparent from the very beginning as they argued and battled, but once they embraced one another as friends and lovers that fire turned to another direction and burned even hotter. I am loving this series and cannot wait for book three to find out which Legend comes next and finds their heart stolen. Broday has a way of bringing her characters to life and giving readers a glimpse of the Wild West that most never imagined existed—the heart and love of family that truly built the west.

Texas Panhandle 1900

There is not hardly anything I love better than a historical western and Linda Broday is a master at creating a world to get lost in!

A reclusive cowboy, trying to hide himself away after a loss he suffered, lives simply, making his living off his bladesmithing. When he is awakened one night with a knife at his throat, his future is set, although he does not know it at the time!

She has her own sorrows and loss and finds him in her old friend's place, thinking he was an intruder. But quickly finds out he had been there when her friend had passed away.

A wonderful story of secrets to be shared, coming back to the world of the living and bringing joy back to life. Of course there are some bad guys and a mystery, which round out the journey, but oh yes, it is worth taking!

It was not particularly good, but not bad either? if that makes any sense.
I did not care for any of the characters, other than Shadow. So it was not as enjoyable for me. Their chemistry was so-so and i found them both sort of annoying.

Finished reading in a few days only! Just like all Linda Broday's novels, really interesting that I forgot to put them down.

This is the continuation of her Legend family series, now this is Sam Jr's turn. Loosing his wife made him move to panhandle Texas, and being a recluse, until his neighbor's daughter is coming home.

Although focused on the love story, I also learn about how life goes on on that era.

With Christmas around the corner, it will take some powerful holiday magic to bring back to life and love a grieving widower who blames himself for his wife’s death, help a woman who carries a heavy secret to finding love and relief at last, rescue a man from some outlaws, and knit together a family broken by circumstances. It’s a lot, but a certain Texan family are not legendary for nothing and the next generation do not fall far from the tree. Oh yes, with high expectations, I was ready to saddle this latest western romance as a gift for the holidays from one of my favorite authors.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is the second entry in this standalone series about this third generation of Legends in turn of the (twentieth) century Texas.

Sam Legend, Jr. is the hero of this one and he starts out far from home living as a recluse in a simple hut where he spends his days trying to find peace as he forges beautifully crafted knives. He has left his amazing and loving family as well as his Texas Ranger job behind to grieve and feel the pain of blame all to himself. His solitary existence is invaded by a fiery woman who thinks he killed her friend and took his home. Sam and his trusty dog Shadow are consternated by Cheyenne Ronan when she won’t leave him be even when she’s not there fussing over his wild hair and beard or his caveman ways.

Cheyenne Ronan is an original and she respects the work her parents did back in the day trying to help the Indians up in Oklahoma Territory. She took her teaching skills out to the Apache reservation in New Mexico, but is disheartened and eventually takes on harrowing work to help the people before coming home with a secret burden. She needs a man to love the woman she is and accept her without expecting her to change. Sam took a bit to come back to life, but he always respected Cheyenne and was not appalled at what she did or her need to be more than an ornament on a man’s arm.

I loved seeing these two come together and be a true pair in life’s hardships and love. They rescue a destitute woman and her kids, use their craft skills to make money that they can give things to others, they work together to clean up the local outlaw element, and work to make it a memorable Christmas for a family, a lonesome old Texas Ranger, and themselves. It was the perfect blend of holiday, western, and romance.

I think as much as I loved the romance and the western ambience, the scenes where Sam and his dad were together left me the most affected. It was neat seeing Sam, Sr. as an older man who had a grown son and how they interacted with mutual respect. Well, perhaps I am a softy for all things Legend since I read the earlier series.

In summary, it was cover to cover satisfaction and I would recommend A Cowboy Christmas Legend for historical western romance lovers’ Santa List.

I really enjoyed Sam and Cheyenne's story! I like watching Cheyenne bringing Sam back from his chosen love of solitude. I can't wait for the next one of the series!

This book is another glimpse into the second generation of the Legend family of Texas. Sam Legend II has moved away from his family and isolated himself after the tragic murder of his wife. He's been learning a new set of skills as a knifemaker and trying not to drown his guilt. His neighbor's daughter, Cheyenne, has been away from home for a long time, teaching Navajo children. After a terrible event shakes Cheyenne's world - she's back home and not sure how to move forward.

Sam and Cheyenne are pretty much perfect for each other. I appreciated how the book allowed each character to find their way through their own drama - and get support from each other along the way. This is a lovely next entry into this large and dynamic family.

There were some parts to the story I didn't love - and at times I wanted more time between Sam and Cheyenne and less about the surrounding events.

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend continues the Lone Star Legends series with the story of two wounded people, in different ways but their pain cannot be denied, who surprisingly find that life is worth living to the fullest when the right person is there as a loving companion. I’ve read Linda Broday’s work for years now, and I especially love the way she often connects new characters with old favorites of mine from other series. It gives me the feeling of continuing to learn about an entire family over time, not just one particular couple’s story. Another reason why I return to her work often.

Sam has become a loner within a loving community after the murder of his wife. He might think he’s alone, but he certainly is not. His sudden and unexpected clash with Cheyenne will tilt his world a bit… and perhaps bring him back to the land of the living instead of in the constant presence of smothering guilt and memories. Today we might call Sam’s issue “survivor’s guilt” and Chey’s issue PTSD, but no matter the title these two are dealing with memories, and emotional issues that have changed their lives in many ways. Although Cheyenne is the more outgoing of them, it won’t take long before she’s pulling Sam along with her as they face the past (and their future) together.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is full of everything I enjoy about this author’s work – believable characters, strong family ties, issues to be dealt with, danger to be faced, and a love that is worth taking the risks for an uncertain future. Watching Sam face his past, track down those that are doing harm to others now and did harm to his family in the past was a satisfying journey as Sam rebuilds himself in many ways. I adored Cheyenne. She’s a strong woman, a bit ahead of her time in many ways, and also hiding secrets that she’ll finally trust Sam enough to let him into those difficult memories. I enjoyed myself back in a familiar world and if you love strong characters, a flowing plot, and intriguing dangers and mysteries to solve then you’d enjoy this one as well.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Sam lost his love and now wants to live peacefully and quietly, all alone. But comes in contact with Cheyenne Ronan and she is not going to allow him to do that, she is going to put a kibosh on that. Sweet, slow burning story but like all Linda Broday's stories, enjoyable, not my favorite but still entertaining.

It’s been a hot minute for me reading a western romance. Broday has always been one of my go-to’s for a good one. I haven’t read the first in the series but thankfully I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. Very enjoyable read, getting to know Sam and Cheyenne.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend by Linda Broday
Genre - Christmas Fiction
Rating - 5 out of 5 stars

I picked out this book because of my ongoing obsession with cowboys. Plus I wanted to get into the Christmas spirit early this year. This book definitely didn’t disappoint.

This book is about a Texas Ranger running from grief and a women coming to grips with her own past. As they work together they end up bonding together to help rescue and take care of a Mother and her two children plus helping with a case for the Texas Rangers. The plot is a very stereotypical romance but it did not disappoint. With all the happy endings that we all look for at Christmas time.

So if you are looking for a nice easy Christmas book to read I would definitely recommend this steamy Christmas read.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is the second book in Linda Broday's magnificent Lone Star Legends series. If you haven't read the first book - though you should, as it's excellent! - you won't be the least bit lost, as the romance stands alone. If you're a long-time fan of Ms. Broday, you will be familiar with some of the characters from her prior series who make an appearance here. I never cared for westerns...until I read this author's work. The holiday season is quickly approaching, and this is the perfect book to put you in the Christmas spirit!

Sam Legend II loved his young wife; when she was murdered he blamed himself for not saving her. He then left his famous family and is now living in solitude in the Texas Panhandle, just wanting to be alone to grieve. He's got his dog Shadow, a bed, fire, hut and his bladesmith work to keep him company; he's getting all the peace he needs. That is, until the night he wakes up to find a beautiful woman holding a knife to his throat, throwing accusations at him. Cheyenne Ronan is different from any other woman he's ever met. The more time he spends with her the more he's intrigued, and Sam begins to see the world in a new light. Now Sam is with the Texas Rangers trying to round up a vicious gang of counterfeiters (including the person who murdered his wife) and assisting a family who desperately needs help, while Cheyenne struggles to deal with a secret from her past. Will a Christmas miracle give them the love they both deserve?

This was an absolutely beautiful and heartwarming romance! Both Sam and Cheyenne were working on trying to forgive themselves for past issues of which they felt guilty. They were exactly what each other needed at the right time. Sam left behind his loving family to start a new life of solitude. When he started to get to know Cheyenne, he thought she talked too much. That wasn't peaceful! But soon she had him joining her family for Thanksgiving, and he began to start craving her company. Cheyenne had some difficult times behind her also, from being fired from her job teaching Apache children to helping smuggle abused Native Americans across the Mexican border. I loved that there wasn't the typical "I hate/love you" dynamic going on; you could really see their attraction to each other and how much they cared. Their steamy times were lovely but not graphic and in your face. There was much exciting action, this being a western. There were wonderful supporting characteristics in this story, including Sam's friend Cap (a Texas Ranger), his uncle Luke and father, and little Aaron and Ellen and their mother Loretta, who were saved from near death and stayed in Cheyenne's home while Loretta recovered. I'm not particularly fond of children as I've often pointed out (again, don't judge me!), but my favorite parts of the book were the times Sam and Cheyenne spent with the children; you just know they'd make wonderful parents. They helped the kids get ready for Christmas, trying to boost their spirits as they worried about their missing daddy. The Christmas play Cap wrote for them to perform was funny and sweet and was one of my favorite scenes. This book had all the makings of a perfect Christmas story and will add joy and wonder to your holiday season! I'm on pins and needles to find out whose story will be released next.

I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I am really enjoying this series. It has been so nice to follow up on a family you enjoyed. I thought it was well written with great characters as usual. The plot is interesting and the villain's terrible. I do think is lags a bit at times, but I don't think it takes away from the story. I look forward to the next.

This book was so much more than I expected. I was thinking it would be just a sappy holiday romance, but the story was so much more. This is a perfect book to make you laugh, cry, worry, feel love and the holiday spirit.
