A fae romance with a beautiful cover to get sucked into? Yes please! Sign me up! Reading this reminded me a bit of reading Holly Black. I liked the romance and you could tell that the story was planned out really well. I wasn't ready for this book to end.

I enjoyed Theorie of the Storm for it's worldbuilding and for all intents and purposes the plot had all the markers of a good fantasy with a unique magic system and an interesting take on the popular 'fae'. However, I found that I just did not connect with the protagonist and this meant it was difficult for me to push through the book. Despite this, I enjoyed the twists and turns throughout the book which kept me guessing and the characterisation of the ensemble like Kyte and Sybil was great. The ending was a cliff-hanger and I am not usually a fan of this but I feel it was done well here and I have enough curiosity to read the next book.

Skewed a little high for our collection; the writing is good but it does succumb to some of the tropes of the genre. Fun premise - reminiscent of Dragon Age and other fantasy magic systems. Fun.

Theorie is afraid of what the future brings. As her 19th birthday approaches, she waits for the inevitable. Honestly, I was so excited for this book. The cover caught my attention and it just radiated YA vibes. However, I could not get through it. It took me forever to read and even longer to even start liking what I reading.

this was a great start to the Forgotten Fae series, it had what I wanted from the series. It had a great story and interesting characters. I look forward to reading more from this series.

Unfortunately not for me and I I enjoy YA fantasy, but this was a miss for me. The pacing was all over the place, I just couldn’t connect with the characters so sadly not one for me

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

This was a gorgeous new adult fantasy romance that would certainly appeal to fans of Sarah J Mass and Holly Black; I love those two authors so I would not compare this book to theirs without good reason. It is slow to begin with but the beautiful writing meant that I didn't mind so much and the action picked up as the story progressed. The setting and world building are also really good and interesting to read about.

I loved the main characters Theorie, Kyte and Taren and really cared about them and their relationships with each other. This is a perfect fae fantasy with just the right amount or romance, magic and adventure. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read and review this book

So this is an ARC, but goodreads tells me this was released in 2018, so I don't think there is an excuse for all the errors in this book. So many times the names were wrong, quotation marks were missing, etc. This is really basic stuff that should have been caught early on in the editing process. It made it hard to get into the book. The story was interesting, but not well explored even though it was like ~450 pages. It is the first in a series, even though I couldn't see that mentioned anywhere, and it doesn't have a satisfying ending really. Like.. these people are all hundreds of years old but they don't recognize Lucena? It isn't stated anywhere that she like whipped off her disguise. There were a bunch of little things throughout the book, like when they find the Fennick nest and there's more than one egg, and these are desperately rare creatures, but they never mention again that there is another baby somewhere. It would have been easy to include something indicating they believed it didn't survive or something. Whatever. At any rate, there were some interesting bits to this book. I think it could be a good book if it was edited well and gone over a few more times to tie up loose ends and make it a bit more gripping.

This book slowly drew me in and the next thing I knew it was over. This book is kind of a slow building story but is very character driven which is why I really enjoyed it. Theorie is getting ready to face the magical trials which will set her on the path for the rest of her life when she is kidnapped and betrayed by Kyte. Kyte just wants a way out of his current life as second in command to a gang. But when he has a change in conscience, he gets sent away on a slaver boat with Theorie. They encounter a storm along the way and end up in the fae realm with another captive named Sybil. The only problem is that no one should be able to enter or leave the island which makes the fae very interested in how they arrived there. Taren the prince of the fae realm will do anything to break down the barriers around the island to leave the kingdom and even goes so far as to try and seduce Theorie.

The world building is beautiful and all of the characters are really unique and strong. I really enjoyed this beautiful story that Jane Delaney created and how easy it was to jump into this story.

This was definitely a set up for a series. A lot of groundwork was put down in the first book, and left off on a good cliffhanger I would say. The character development was ok, with the villains at the end surprising me. The beginning left me with questions, especially with Theorie's background. I look forward to the sequel to see what happens!

Trials (especially life or death trials/games) are always of interest to me, so it was no different that this book appealed to me. I absolutely loved the cover and the title. I felt a bit uncomfortable because of the Stockholm syndrome but it was still an enjoyable read.

I was given an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I was going to. I typically prefer fast paced books that I can read in a day or two. This book is a slow burn but it held my attention from page one. The set up was well done and I understood the world easily. I enjoyed Theorie's character.
The writing flowed well and the descriptive imagery was perfect. I was thoroughly enveloped into this world and I loved every moment.

After a long ago war ripped the human and Fae apart, magic has been fading from the human lands. Theorie, a young mage, is kidnapped and finds herself unexpectedly on the Island where the only remaining Fae can be found.

The plot of this book was good, although the beginning was quite slow and took a while to get going. I also wasn't much of a fan of Theorie and some of the other characters since they felt a bit flat.

However, the world building is pretty fantastic and I could really imagine the incredible locations in the book!

Not a brilliant story, but also not bad. I'll probably pick up the sequel!

THEORIE OF THE STORM - Jane Delaney

★★★☆☆

Many years ago Fae and humans were at war over a mad king’s lovers spat. After an inexplicable event, most of the Fae mysteriously disappear without a trace. In present day, humans have prospered and Fae have faded into myth and legend. Theorie a young mage has lived a relatively sheltered life until one day she is kidnapped. Shipped of to a faraway land, the boat hits a storm and sinks. Theorie is able to survive, along with her kidnapper, and is washed up on a hidden Fae island. There she meets a Fae prince, who is determined to break the magic wards around the island keeping them prisoners and discover what happened to his people.

This book has an extremely slow start for my tastes. More than once I thought about stopping and starting something new. But by the half way point, the pace has increased dramatically and the plot seemed ok - the plot twist at the end was well executed. The characters are in general well developed but sometimes their intentions left me frustrated and questioning why?

Overall I thought I was an ok book, however the numerous editing errors was very distracting.

I typically love YA fantasy, but I had a hard time reading this book. The beginning jumped around so much it left me confused and more than once I had to stop and make sure I was reading the right book. I couldn’t connect with the characters at all. I found most of them to be annoying. The imagery, however, was well-done and the scene descriptions, while a bit formal and more reminiscent of the classics, was beautifully written. The disconnect with the characters and overall flow of the story made it difficult for me to like the book. It’s just not a good fit for me.

Fae books are all the rage now. I read most of them so I can see how different authors interrupt them. This book confused me a bit. But I did like it. I’m going to download
Book 2 to figure out what happened. It is a bit Stockholm syndrome-y but that happens quite a bit in fantasy haha

I didn’t ultimately connect with the MC right away and the book had a bit of a slow start but once I got into it, the book was very enjoyable. The works is very complex with I enjoyed a lot, plus I loved the magic system which is always a plus. All in all I’m super pleased and happy I got to read this arc.

As always thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC.

I like the format of this novel, and didn't find the MC too annoying. She was a little hard to connect with at first but the smooth prose and dialogue dragged me in. I loved the growth of her character.
The story got better and better and the world and threads more complex. I'm not sure it was all pulled together but a great effort.
3 stars

Slowbuild but I was totally sucked in by the story, I love YA novels and this was no different. The characters were lovely and kind of relatable to a point despite it being a world of magic.
