In this short-ish book, Richard Gamble presents an occasionally thought-provoking and encouraging call to remember what God has done in the past as we seek to pray to Him with confidence and hope. I think your average evangelical Christian will be broadly on-board with what he says, although I have three main issues regarding his treatment of prayer, these being that:

1) The book focuses on one aspect of prayer without really addressing the bigger picture. While God often generous blesses in material ways in response to heartfelt prayer, this is but one dimension. Prayer is about talking to God and expressing our relationship with Him. I reckon Gamble fully believes that, but he doesn't talk about it, so far as I can remember.

2) He occasionally acknowledges that many prayers go unanswered, and that is the nature of how God works, yet by presenting a whole host of examples of answered prayer, it gives the impression that this is the norm, as if it is indeed a question of having sufficient faith that makes for answered prayer.

3) When discussing confidence in prayer, the author is fixated on the physical (healing, financial provision etc) without any consideration, as far as I recall, for the spiritual. While I personally believe that we should pray for material concerns, I believe that the most important thing that we can and should focus on in asking God for provision is for the strength to serve and obey Him, and to live lives shaped by Jesus.
