I struggled with this book and I am still struggling, weeks after finishing it, to work out why.

Savage Row is the story of a woman who is confronted by the criminal she sent to jail as a juror in his case. This should be the basis of a dark and suspenseful page-turner. Except.. it wasn't.

We are swept into Amy's life of open homes, raising her children with her husband, and settling into a new neighbourhood. As a fan of Lisa Jewell I am usually a big fan of domestic thrillers and the typical setup of an "ordinary family" plunged into something deeply disturbing, but this just didn't hit me in the right way for some reason.

So, what did I like about this book. Well, the writing flowed well and I liked the narrator. The pacing was good and there was a decent range of characters.

Unfortunately there were more aspects that I didn't like. I struggled to form an attachment to the characters, partially because we only ever had one perspective. Amy's husband felt quite aloof to the story and I would have loved to see him fleshed out more as a person. I also felt like a lot of the characters actions were not quite believable and it stopped me from gelling with the plot completely. I also felt like the threat at the core of the story wasn't scary enough for me to care much.. maybe this stems from my love of thrillers and depraved horror, but this felt very tame to me.

Overall this one was a miss for me.

Savage Row is a stalker thriller involving wife and mother Amy Stone and the man she helped put in prison several years ago. The writing and plot definitely move along from one psychological twist to the next, involving Amy, her children, her husband, the neighbor, and even her dog. One creepy incident follows the next as she battles with police for safety and tries to figure out who she can and can't trust.

This book isn't for me personally, but if you love ongoing, twisty plots that keep your adrenaline high and your hairs raised, this may be for you!

(I listened to this book on audio. I personally had a hard time with the reader's voice. I feel a more crisp tone would be easier to understand, but again, personal preference. Speeding up the audio removed some of the issues and reduced the breathy sounds.)

***AUDIO VERSION***.
Savage Row is a twisty turn psychological thriller by Britney King that had my skin prickling on many occasions.
Jack Mooney has just been released from prison and he has a score to settle against one of the jurors who sent him down for raping a young girl.
Amy is this juror. A wife and mother who works in real estate, she becomes a target for Mooney and he delights in stalking her in a cat and mouse game. Mooney is clever with how he begins to torture Amy, he never does anything that Amy could go to the police with.
Amy reels from the threats to her and her family and tries to keep them and herself safe from this deranged stalker.
To find out what happens you really need to read or listen to this book.
The narrator was a good fit for this book and I enjoyed listening to her.

Savage Row wasn't the book for me. I disliked the narrator which didn't help matters, and the story didn't grab my interest the way the author's other work has.

That being said, I've enjoyed every other book I've read from this author, so please don't let my rating sway you. One book out of the bunch was bound to be a miss eventually.

Britney King has always entertained me in the past, and I will continue to pick up her books in the future.

I would not have rated SR at all except that Netgalley requires feedback.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to listen to this book.

This book was not the book for me. I found the storyline totally unbelievable and the characters totally unlikable. The book was sporadic and things happened very quickly that just didn’t make sense. Everything was predictable and it took everything in me to get through this book

This thriller fell a little flat for me. The attempts at plot twists made the plot overly convoluted and it seemed a lot of things were added just for the shock value, more than the actual plot.

The audiobook was pretty good thanks to the narration but I don't think this would be something I'd want to read in print. The premise itself is okay but the characters are pretty unlikeable.

I received an ARC audiobook from Netgalley for an honest review.

Thank you to the publisher for this audio book.
.
To be very clear....I will be speaking on the audio only.
.
I am not going to recommend it. Let me tell you why.
.
{I’m going to repeat myself one more time. I am speaking on the audio only!}
.
•The characters were very disjointed.
•I did not enjoy the single narrator. I felt like we needed at least more to differentiate between the characters 🤷🏻‍♀️.
.
Let’s talk about what I did like. I am very interested in the story. I am going to read the physical book and my thoughts could change.
It was a fantastic length. I love quick stories. Especially when they are thrillers.
.
These are of course my opinions.

Savage Row is a quick read that will keep you flipping pages (or finding more tasks to do with headphones on if you’re reading via audio).

Amy Stone is a realtor living her normal life with her husband and 2 daughters until one day a man shows up at an open house she’s working. She can’t place him until he tells her how she knows him. She was a juror who found him guilty and he was sentenced to 20 years. Now he’s out and determined to get revenge. But what can you do when you can’t prove someone is after you?

This was a compelling read but it packed a LOT into it - I felt there were too many pieces and it felt rushed and unbelievable at points.

The audio narration was great and I will definitely read other books by Britney King but this wasn’t a favorite. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the free audiobook.

"Its smart not to invite broken things into your life, its not your job to fix them, no matter how shiny the projects look."
My review:
Ok, first off. (Wow) This was definitely quick listen. Roller coaster of a ride twist and turns. I loved the narrator . ( laura Jennings) she sounds like she from a actress from movies, because she sounds familiar. Overall the book was ok. A lot of things left off and cut off at the end. I wasn't sure what happened.

If there's one thing I can always count on, it's cracking open a Britney King novel and not being able to put it down. Savage Row is one more in a list of unputdownable reads by this author - it's totally disturbing, spine-tingling, and if you live in suburbia, you'll be closing the curtains and looking over your shoulder. It's the kind of book that completely messes with your mind. Savage Row doesn't just give us a bad guy, not just one bad guy anyway. Nope, this one gives us varying degrees of bad and the tension comes from wondering which one is gonna step a toe or two over the line first. This is a story where things that seem totally innocuous probably aren't, where even the simplest of things can and often do mean something sinister. This psychological thriller gets really dark, but if you've got the stomach for it, it's not to be missed. It's the kind of edge-of-your-seat thriller that's left even this jaded reader reeling. So, gobble it up, sit back and think about all of it for a bit, then read it again. That's what I did, and it was just as good, maybe even more so, the second time.
All of that is what I had to say about Savage Row when I read it, and yes, I did read it twice. Then I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook and jumped at it. And I'll just tell you, even knowing exactly what's gonna happen, knowing who the worst guy is, knowing every single twist, I loved every minute of it. Laura Jennings is a great match for Britney King's writing style, and she does an excellent job of building the tension to keep a listener on the edge of their seat.
So, if you're looking for some look over your shoulder type of chills, I highly recommend Savage Row and Britney King.

This was a twisty turny book by a new to me author and narrator. Who knew that being a juror would have long lasting affects? What happens when the person you helped put away gets out and blames you for the time he has done? What happens if no one believes you?

I don’t want to give too much away in this twisty thriller so I will just say this was a good thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. There is a lot going on that makes you question everything!
Laura Jennings was a new to me narrator and she did a good job.
I will look for other books by this author! I will be buying this book for the library and looking up her backlist!
4 stars

I was really excited about this one. I finished it in one day it definitely had the suspense that I was looking for. But I will say It seemed like there were some spoilers from the very beginning that kind of ruined the end for me. I also feel like ending should of went another way but either way I enjoyed it!

Britney King is a new to me author and one that I will be looking out for in the future. In Savage Row she takes us on a gripping journey of suspense and mystery and an all consuming storyline. This is a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing from beginning to end.

Amy Stone is living a perfect life with a husband she adores, her two children and a successful career in real estate. Until Jack Mooney is released from prison. 10 years ago, Amy was one of the jurors that was responsible from convicting him of raping a young girl and he is determined to exact revenge on her. Mooney has been planning his revenge and seems always one step ahead of Amy and she is unable to go to the police without any real evidence and is forced to take matters into her own hands which could have irreversible effects.

Laura Jennings is fantastic in her story telling. She voices the role of Amy Stone superbly with the perfect combination of suspense and thrill in her voice to keep the listener invested and on the edge of your seat.

**Thank you Britney King, Orange Sky Audio and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced listener copy in exchange of an honest review.

Holy cow, what a wild ride. This is a dark, twisty thriller parading as a general fiction book. It delves into the life of Amy Stone and her family. She has a stalker, who narrates part of the book, whose reliability is in question. I finished this in about a day. I don’t want to say too much and spoil anything, but you won’t regret this listen.

The narrator of the audiobook does a great job of setting the tone of the book and I appreciate not trying to do a creepy voice for the stalker. Definitely find time to listen to this book!

Career Criminal, Jack Mooney, spends his time in prison nursing his hatred for the jurors who put them there. When he is granted early release, he is delighted to target Amy Stone- who seems to have the perfect life complete with two darling, little girls. Mooney is soon intent on a campaign of terror and the police seem powerless to protect the Stone family.

I listened to this entire audiobook in one roadrip this week. It’s quick, compelling, and fast paced. Savage Row is full of twists and turns. I found myself entertained and enjoyed the narrator.

Unfortunately, this one fell a little flat for me and was ultimately predictable. While I enjoyed the entertaining read, it’s nothing I will remember in a month or two. In the end, I just needed more to make this a truly memorable thriller.

I’d recommend the audiobook of Savage Row to anyone who enjoys psychological thriller and is looking for a quick read. Three stars!

Amy Stone appears to have it all - mother of 2 beautiful girls, gorgeous husband, and a booming real estate business. That is until Jack Mooney is released early from prison. Amy served as a juror a decade earlier that help put him there. Now, Jack seeks revenge on the jurors. And Amy is his first target.

Britney King writes stalking novels brilliantly, and Laura Jennings narrates it perfectly - tense and creepy while having the stalker push boundaries without ever crossing them. Stalking in plain sight with heebie-jeebies feels!! At times, I felt different characters were stalking Amy - the neighbor next door, the ex-roommate, and of course Jack. All the face-paced and tense scenes left me wondering who “the bad guy” really was. Or maybe they are all bad guys?

If you are in a reading slump or need something you could easily read in one day, read this! Dark, gritty, tense, and highly entertaining.

Rating:3/5

I was very excited to listen to this! I devoured it in three sittings. Right off the bat, I thought it was super interesting and creepy. A very unique plot, which I liked!

The problem was it fell flat for me. It seemed more suspense than a thriller. I figured Mooney would not really be the guy after Amy since it seemed he was! There were small twists but not what I would expect from a psychological thriller. Amy’s husband was also super unlikable.

I’ve definitely been reading a LOT of romance novels recently, but @orangeskyaudio reached out to me about this one on @netgalley and I took a chance.

This is the first time I’ve listened to a thriller. I think I actually like listening to it more than reading because sometimes thrillers are really slow for me after the opening hook. I was definitely sucked in right away with this book. And I kept thinking about all the directions this book could go. But isn’t that the point of psychological thrillers? My mind was a little more out there with ideas than the direction this book went.

You can swipe to see the synopsis, but I truthfully think the synopsis makes you think it’s more about Jake Mooney, but in reality it follows Amy Stone and her family. Overall I enjoyed the book, but there were a few things that happened that I wasn’t a fan of. If you don’t want spoilers, stop reading and go listen for yourself!

SPOILERS: I will say I was not a fan of the fact that their dog was murdered and the kids got hurt a little🙅🏼‍♀️ I know that in reality there are people out there that would do this, I’m a forensic scientist. But it’s definitely not something I particularly enjoyed.

I love a good thriller every now and then so when I was approached by OrangeSky Audio to listen to Savage Row by Britney King I jumped at the chance. It has all the suspense and excitement that I want in a thriller combined with all the insight of a Women’s Fiction read.

Told from multiple POV, Amy Stone is a wife, mother and real estate salesman. She’s content with her life but is also ambitious, striving for the gold status with her company. When she agrees to host an open house for another agent, the last person who she thought she’d see is Jack Mooney, a career criminal whose spent the past decade in jail. He remembers her very well - after all, she sat on the jury that found him guilty. She’s all he’s been thinking about these past ten years and so for Jack it’s time for revenge. As Mooney begins his crusade of terrorizing Amy and her family, the police don’t seem to be able to offer much. Will Amy be able to outwit him before it’s too late and she loses everything?

I enjoyed this book, my first for this author, which kept me engaged throughout. There are several other characters on the periphery of the story who keep you guessing if all the chaos surrounding Amy is solely due to Mooney. The book is a shorter one at around 250 pages, but you’d never know it because so much happens during the course of the book. The characters are well developed and interesting. Savage Row has some violent scenes including an incident involving the family dog, so readers should be aware of this going into the book.

I listened to the audiobook format of Savage Row which was narrated by Laura Jennings, who really gives a fantastic performance. I felt as though she was almost whispering at times - accounting for what had happened so as not to be overheard which provided an interesting layer to the book. Her voice was clear and expressive and really held my interest. I listened to the book at my usual 1.25x speed which I found to be comfortable. I encourage those who enjoy audiobooks to choose this format.
