Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Since she was a child, Nellie always sensed her mother’s rejection of her but didn’t know why.

So when she’s left school, suddenly she’s sent to do service at Beaumont House, not what she wanted or expected her mother and father to do.

Now, all alone, she’s finding herself lost too, but that’s until she meets the artist, Lucas Harrington, also falling in love with him.

Even though she knows it’s wrong, she’s encouraged to continue the relationship Lucas’s Aunt Alice. Lucas wants to paint Nellie as he sees something in her that’s different.

But, Nellie is facing heartbreak, as there’s promises broken and she has to run away from Beaumont House, for London.

Now, she’s again alone and has to learn to live for herself and her new-born child.

Will Nellie get a second chance of happiness and find out why her mother resents her?

Loved reading this. Recommend it.

Loved the story of Nellie and all she had to overcome, thrown into the deep end of working in the kitchens and laundry on the very day she left school because her mother couldn't stand her, I enjoyed the friendships and connections she made through her journey to better herself
I really hope there is a follow up book from this as I would love to know if Nellie reaches her dreams of becoming a cook and what lies ahead for her and Tom or even Lucas
