I read Hunted Girl without initially realizing that it was the second in a series. I was drawn to it by the cover, plot, and genre, but didn't know that it was not a stand alone novel or first in a series. Although that was the case, and it probably would have been an improved experience with backstory/context, I still enjoyed Carolyn Ridder Aspenson's writing style and the suspense of the book. I loved the story and was excited with the thrill of it all!

This was quite a dark, atmospheric mystery. It was a bit of a slow burn but i never got bored. I was eager to see how the mystery would unfold.

Detective Rachel Ryder is back and still struggling to adapt to her new surroundings in Georgia. While the new police chief is someone she trusts and respects, she still seems to be too direct for her southern colleagues. Having built some level of trust with her partner, Rob, Ryder finds that she is settling into a new life; however, her past comes to find her. What begins with the death of a drug addict, who is the brother of Rob's best friend (who happens to be Ryder's handyman) turns into more than it first seems. With the man responsible for the death of Ryder's husband out of jail, she is aware that he will seek revenge. As the murder case develops, Ryder is certain that somehow it is related to her past and that someone is coming for her. How it all plays out is an exciting and unexpected ride for the reader. Now, I can't wait to see what happens next for Ryder.

This was slow burner, and I'm ashamed to admit that I almost gave up on the story. But I am so glad I finished it.

What a great writer, with plenty of knowledge of the law, which stood out for me. Also, how much law enforcement love their coffee!!

Great storyline and plot and I really hope this is the start of a series of books

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for ARC

Detective Rachel Ridder and Robert Bishop called out to a dead body in the park, link to a friend and a past of Rachel’s that haunts her. On the job she is fearless and tough, will this case undo that. Good chemistry of these two working together. Good flowing plot that draws you in, and was well done. Given ARC by Net .galley and Severn River for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

This is a dark mystery with intrigue and mayhem. It is so depressing with characters who are not that likeable...I give this one a miss.. Sent to me on Kindle by Netgalley for review.

Detectives Ryder and Bishop are on a case that appears to relate to Ryder’s past. There are many characters involved in the investigation process, and not everyone will survive. This was a good read, but not one that I couldn’t put down.

What good police procedural. I haven't read the first book in the series so now I've got to get the first one.
Without the first book I really didn't feel like I missed anything. I like this quick read. It was fun. Enjoyable.
The characters were very well developed, and the writing was good!

As much as I loved the first book, I almost dnf’d this one. It just didn’t flow as well as the first one. There was so much going on and at times felt jumbled. I had a hard time being invested in the outcome and the characters. With that being said, I’m not giving up on this author and/or series. It wasn’t the worst that I’ve read but when comparing to book 1 and other books in this genre, this latest installment was just average for me.

Thank you #netgalley and #severnriverpublishing for the eARC.

This police procedural is easy and entertaining to read, with excellent characters like the very strong female main character. Unfortunately, she's not that smart this time, and the plot makes the story too slow in the beginning.

Book two in the Rachel Ryder series is a little muddled, jam-packed as it is with bad guys and crossing investigational lines. Either Rachel's paranoid and reading too much into the skull necklaces at crime scenes, or her crooked Chicago nemesis is actually out to get her. This seems like it could have easily been two books, just to flesh out the Chicago back story some and to help sell that Rachel was being tracked by revenge-seekers. Not as strong as the first book, but it did set up a new avenue that I'm interested to see play out in future books.

Thanks to Severn River Publishing for access to a digital ARC via NetGalley.

Detective Rachel Ryder and her partner Rob Bishop, are called to ad overdosed death in a park, to dot all “i” it will have to be investigated, but it looks pretty straight forward. Bishop’s best friend’s brother shows up dead and he is a link to the dead body in the park, … things are starting to line up and is Rachel’s Chicago days catching up with her?
Totally loved booked 2 in this series, it flowed just as a well as the first, and it leaves you wanting for more! I really enjoyed how the characters have evolved since book 2, the trust between the partners.
Thank you to NetGalley and Severn Publishing for an early read in exchange for my opinion.
