Zaanen, and Drustan Wahrin 'Axis' were the two great wizards that help mortals defeat the deadly Greys years ago. Something happened to Zaanen. He became consumed with the need for power and turned to the God of Death, making him the world's greatest enemy. Axis defeated him once but now a new hero must rise to save the world from Zaanen.
Lord Rowan Everleigh was considered the greatest warrior of the world after he defeated a dragon. All he wanted was to live a quiet life with his beloved wife and daughter, which he did for twenty years.
Damien Valsguard was an orphan taken in by King Simeon, Valsguard's conqueror. He was raised alongside the prince who became his best friend. He's a fierce warrior, a leader and a role model.
Russam is a pirate, who's chases after the treasure that drove his father mad and drives him to find the greatest warrior in the world.
Isabella is Lord Rowan's daughter, she never knew about his past but all is revealed when the King's Guard comes looking for her father. Her father isn't the only one keeping secrets.
This first story in the Loro Chronicles will introduce all of the main characters and their pasts that made them who they are today. Each has their own mini story before Fate drives them together to begin their quest, whether they want to or not. Each has a role to play in this epic fantasy.
I enjoy epic fantasies and this started out interesting but became too predictable and annoying when the characters made stupid choices.

i enjoyed reading this, it was a great scifi read and had a interesting storyline. It was a fun read with great characters. i look forward to reading more in this series and from the author.

thanks to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the digital arc in exchange for an honest review.
this book set out to be great and i was loving the world and the effort that went into it but it lacked in many ways i can't overlook. the action seems were rushed and the dialogue was static at parts, i needed more from the characters and their arcs. i also felt the pacing was a bit weird and felt off to me many times that i had to put the book down many times because of how it took me out of the story. i think it would have been better if the execution was more thought-out and creative. however, still a very good read!

The continent of Loro has enjoyed relative peace for the last twenty-four years, ever since its greatest hero killed the mighty dragon that plagued its lands.
Now an old legend out of the history books poses a new threat to Loro. The Greys, soldiers dressed in all black and armed with unnatural speed and strength, have returned to Loro's southern countries to plunder and burn its towns, apparently under the command of a mysterious creature capable of wielding dark magic.
The Thief of Valsguard is the first book in The Loro Chronicles. This debut is a fun adventurous fantasy tale with interesting characters, a classic plot and decent worldbuilding that takes the reader on an explosive journey. There are many things I both liked and disliked in this book, so here's my thoughts.
We follow four characters from different parts of the Kingdom, whose fate is about to bring them all together.
Damien is a renowned warrior and advisor to a king that's trying to avoid war with the neighbouring country.
Rowan is a famous dragonslayer who wants nothing more than to live out the rest of his days on his farm with his wife and daughter.
Russam has just finished a 15 year scavenger hunt only to be thrown into another adventure to find the famous Rowan Everleigh.
Isabella wants nothing more than to visit Westland and attend its college but her world is flipped on its head when she discovers the history about her father.
I found all four characters to be fleshed out and easy to follow. At first it felt a little bit rushed when introducing them, but the further we get into the book and start to uncover their backgrounds I found myself liking them more and ultimately rooting for them as they carry out their destiny's.
The plot is a classic one that we've seen so many times and maye where I struggled the most. 4 people who don't know each other (apart from Rowan and Isabella) find their paths cross and they all have one common goal. It felt a bit like a computer game where you have a goal but you carry out other mini quests along the way. There are certain parts that I did enjoy but it all felt a bit rushed and all over the place at times. I'm I'm a huge fan of books with a large amount of action and this book definitely has that. I just would have preferred it if the action lasted a bit longer at times rather than feeling like it was over in a heartbeat. I think this could maybe be a result if the pacing. At times it felt brilliant and it would flow beautifully but others, particularly around the action it seemed rushed and the flow would be disrupted.
The worldbuilding was decent and showed a fair amount of creativity. With three of the characters coming from different kingdoms, we bounce around from place to place, meeting other interesting characters such as Hector, Celine and The Collector. The cultures of each of these places and characters gave off a Skyrim Elder Scrolls vibe and that's probably where the Computer game vibe comes from. If you like skyrim mixed with YA books, I'm confident you will love The Thief of Valsguard.
