I keep waiting for a series to be made from the Harmony books. The dust bunnies alone would be fun to watch. Guild Boss was another great read by Jayne Castle.

Set in the future world of Harmony, where humans have been stranded for hundreds of years after a time/space rip, Weather Reader Lucy Bell is trapped in the Dark City, underground where an alien civilization lived a millenia ago. There are strange currents of hallucinogenic energy that weave through the air. Usually, Lucy can navigate such currents, but she was stripped of her tuned amber that allowed her to travel safely. Gabriel Jones rescues her and then disappears. When he returns to Dark City, Lucy has gone off the grid because no one believes her story of being kidnapped and imprisoned. Jones not only believes her, he starts working with her, to find out why and who was behind the kidnapping. Another fun read in Jayne Castle's world of Harmony, following the adventures of the Jones; family from Victorian times (Amanda Quick); to present day (Jayne Ann Krentz) to the future.

I really enjoyed this return to Harmony. The characters had depth, and the plot was fast paced and had great flow. Highly recommend.

I always know when I pick up a Jayne Castle book that I will not want to stop reading until it is over and this one was no different. I loved all the characters, supporting and main. I can't wait to read more of this series.

Another hit in the Harmony series. Great characters and lots of action. Just the right amount of romance sprinkled in. Following the “three” authors in the Jayneverse, I enjoyed the references from the past.

I've been a longtime fan of Jayne Castle as well as her non de plumes-Amanda Quick and Jayne Krentz .Her harmony series is a top favorite of mine and her latest one doesn't disappoint. The 14th in this series-Guild Boss-picks up in Illusion Town and what follows is a rambunctious adventure with all the necessary components guaranteed to entertain.

Years ago I devoured all things Jayne Castle during one of my biggest PNR phases. I read every paranormal romance I could get my hands on. I'm reading less PNR nowadays, but when I saw this new releases I was so excited about it. And I'm happy to report that GUILD BOSS was just what I needed.

What I enjoy the most about JAYNE CASTLE books are how reliable they are. With every novel I know exactly what I'm getting - an entertaining and adventurous romance, with great chemistry and wonderful bander. The couple is likeable, the supporting cast is fantastic, and the mystery is just right.

I have waited a long time for a new book by Jayne Castle and it was worth it. The world building for Harmony is amazing and unlike any other fictional place you will find. We start off with Lucy lost in the underworld and Gabriel coming to her rescue. The problem is no one will believe her when she says she was kidnaped. As her world crashed around her Lucy and Gabriel must find the answers before much more than her reputation is lost. This is a wonderful book with engaging characters and amazing world building without being overly boringly descriptive. And can I just say dustbunny. Otis just made to book for me.

Everything I hoped for in the latest Harmony novel showed up in Guild Boss. There is romance, mystery, danger, sexy times and above all else, a dust bunny. Never underestimate the draw of a dust bunny. Otis nearly steals the show in this book. I just adore him and wish I had my own little dust bunny buddy.

Returning back to this world, we are in Illusion Town where Lucy, a weather psychic is caught up in a nefarious plot that she is not aware of. What it has done is destroy her credibility and her livelihood. Gabriel, an up and coming Guild member crosses path with her and quickly realizes that she is the key. The key to solving the case he is on? Or the key to his future?

I adore Ms. Castle's romances. Yes, they are formulaic but they work. They work because she adds in little fun details to bring a two dimensional book into 4-D through her vivid descriptions of sight, sound, smell and taste. I can visualize each scene so well as Ms. Castle describes it. There is something magical about her writing style because within the first page, I'm immediately catapulted into an alien world that is similar to ours in so many ways yet different.

Gabriel and Lucy are similar to most of her romance novels. Gabriel is a stoic alpha male who likes to fix problems. He's logic and loathes all the societal niceties required for his job. Lucy is a plucky female who is down on her luck. She doesn't accept charity but has built a network of friends... all in low places. The character who is most loved and too adorable is Otis. Otis is a dust bunny which no one really knows what or where they come from. They each have personalities with exquisite body language and non-verbal communication. Ms. Castle excels at describing Otis and his antics. I absolutely adore them. Every scene with Otis in it is a treat.

The mystery aspect of this story is well written. This story is cohesive, smooth and captivating. I devoured it and became even more excited at the end because it seems, that this is NOT the last in this marvelous world. Ms. Castle may be planning more books in this universe which thrills me to no end. Just as I think the story will come to a closure, Ms. Castle adds in some enhancing scenes which brings me joy and generates laughter. When it comes to a lighter romance with some dark threads, Ms. Castle is an expert. This paranormal romance is highly recommended to everyone, especially readers who have been inundated with the joylessness of today's pandemic world. This is a must read book.

GUILD BOSS is the 14th book in author Jayne Castle’s (aka Jayne Ann Krentz) long running and popular ‘Ghost Hunters’ series. As always, this is an enjoyable paranormal romance/romantic suspense, set on a future world called Harmony, that strongly resembles modern day America, but with quasi-Victorian social institutions. And ancient, vanished aliens. Not to mention exotic animal companions. Fun read for fans and new readers alike.

Harmony is a colonized alien world set in Earth's future. Adaptation to this world, brought about psychic gifts to combat the psychic nature of the dangers in this strange new world. Lucy Bell is found and rescued after multiple days Underground in the Ghost City alone and without her tuned amber. Gabriel Jones walked into the maze and brought her to the surface and a press conference. He leaves immediately and Lucy is escorted to a mental hospital. She's told that she's crazy for thinking that reason she was lost was a failed kidnapping. Escaping from the hospital and trying to regain her reputation, Gabriel Jones returns to Illusion Town an offers her a job she can't refuse.

Why I started this book: Castle, the pen name for [author:Jayne Ann Krentz|2387], tales a reliable romance, book after book. And so I jumped at the chance of an ARC.

Why I finished it: Castle is at her best when her best man is trying to regain lost ground, and her heroine is struggle to get people to believe her. This book delivers this in spades, plus dust bunnies. If you have made it to the 14th book in the series, I don't have to convince you to read this book, all I have to do is grin and acknowledge your love of dust bunnies too.

There is not another author that has impressed me with their world-building quite like Jayne Castle and Harmony. I am constantly in awe of how a planet can be so similar to Earth and yet so wonderfully different. Because it's so similar I am able to fall into the book easier--without all the confusion that sometimes comes with trying to picture a new world--but still get to enjoy all the nuances that make it paranormal.

After reading Guild Boss I felt an immediate sense of dread. Dread because I knew that, since this was an ARC, I would have to wait two to three times longer than the general public before I'd get to read another Castle book. So, of course, I went to my bookshelf, dragged down all the other Castle books I own, and set about speed reading through them just to keep the high going.

This book starts off with a hilarious bang and just keeps the humor going. The heroine, Lucy, and the hero, Gabriel, have all the charm of usual Castle pairings. I don't know how she writes such serious heroes who are totally in love with the heroines over and over again and not have it become stale. Because it doesn't. And the best part is that her heroines, though occasionally damsels, are never truly in distress. Her couples are equally powerful and the heroes never doubt (and always build up) their women. I cannot get enough of it, honestly.

And the dust bunnies! Gah! I love them more and more with every single book.

This is a wonderful addition to the ‘Jayneverse’ as she called it. Guild Boss takes place in her futuristic world of Harmony, whose explorers were cut off from Earth centuries ago. Now everything runs on psychic energy. The guilds are part psychic police, part Indiana Jones. The new boss of the guild, Gabriel, tracks down the lost, drugged and psy-ed out Lucy. Everyone thinks Lucy got too drunk and drugged and lost her way. Instead it seems she got caught in the middle of a crime that could shut down all the psychically powered society. Gabriel turns out to be the only one who believes her and together they unravel the mystery. While falling in love of course.

This book harkens back to the best of the Jayneverse. Lately dialogue and situations have been almost crying-worthy. There were zany characters and scenes that just turn out to be dorky, not zany. Not so with this new offering. The characters were more real and relatable. Scenes ranged from funny to sexy and the plot was quite intriguing along with romantic.
I would recommend this book to my patrons

I received this ARC by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Once again Castle brings us to Illusion Town where Lucy Bell has been kidnapped, drugged and left in the catacombs of the underground without turned amber. Gabriel Jones a tracker for the Guild has been called in by Lucy’s father to try to find her. Which he does by following a dust bunny, Otis with a small box of pizza and a necklace around his neck. He brings Lucy to the surface and has to leave her to go on another mission. Lucy is drugged again and taken to a hospital where they tell her father that she is hallucinating and needs to come off the drugs she has taken. Lucy knows she hasn’t taken any drugs and escapes the hospital with a little help from her Otis the dust bunny.

Four months later Lucy is working as a tour guide when Gabriel finds her and wants her help locating an Old-World artifact stolen from the Midnight Circus. Gabriel s now head of the Guild in Illusion Town (Dead Zone). Lucy agrees and now their adventure begins.

Take a trip into Illusion Town and join Lucy and Gabriel Jones as they try to stay alive and fall in love. Enjoyable, fast paced and another great story by Castle.

I enjoy everything aspect of Jayne Castle's Harmony series, as well as the St. Helen's series, which is the first of Jayne Ann Krentz writing paranormal romances that I tried. Harmony is a colonized alien world in humanity's future. When the phenomena of the 'Curtain' occurred on Earth, opening up to another world on the otherside, humanity jumped at the chance to colonize the new horizon. Now, hundreds of years after the Curtain closed as mysteriously as it opened, the citizens of Harmony of adapted to their new world and are moving into a future of exploration and discovery.

More and more discoveries of the alien race that inhabited Harmony before humans are being discovered and the abilities emerging in the human population to interact with them are becoming more prevalent and powerful. Lucy Bell thinks of herself as just another weather channeler, proud to be an independent consultant for projects needing her services to deal with the alien storms in the zones of the Ghost City. After surviving a kidnapping attempt and multiple days Underground in the Ghost City alone and without her tuned amber and getting rescued by a hunky Guild Hunter, she hopes it means a possible new love interest and reputation of strength that will lead to more work. Instead, no one believes her story of being kidnapped and she's marked as a crazy person.

Now that Gabriel Jones is back in Illusion Town for good, he is looking forward to reconnecting with Lucy. She's been in his mind since he had to leave her right after her rescue. Anticipating their reunion, Gabriel is surprised by the cold attitude he finds after seeking her out. Discovering that her reputation was shattered after their last encounter, throws a wrench in his plans to woe her. Offering her a contract for the new Illusion Town Guild is the best starting place he can think of to get back in her good graces. Together, Lucy and Gabriel delve into recovering a stolen item and end up embroiling themselves into a much larger conspiracy that could uncover the truth behind Lucy's time in the Ghost City.

I am so happy that Jayne Castle is back. The Guild Boss was a perfect continuation of this story line. As in all her books , once started could not put it down. A must read for her fans.
